Title: Aden Flint Post by: guy66 on Sunday, October 9, 2011, 07:49:41 On the way home after the match yesterday I met Aden Flint at Strensham services, really nice bloke and happy to chat. I asked how his injury was, assumimg he was out due to an injury and he said he was fit, he said he didnt expect to get an automatic place but was still gutted and not getting selected.....you can see his point.
Title: Re: Aden Flint Post by: Bennett on Sunday, October 9, 2011, 17:07:35 i can, especially when we appeared to be crap from set pieces
Title: Re: Aden Flint Post by: mrverve on Sunday, October 9, 2011, 17:11:58 Yeah when Flint was in the team we weren't conceding from set pieces were we?
Title: Re: Aden Flint Post by: jonny72 on Sunday, October 9, 2011, 17:25:57 Yeah when Flint was in the team we weren't conceding from set pieces were we? Think we've been crap at them all season, plus crosses in to the box seem to have been our biggest downfall. Title: Re: Aden Flint Post by: herthab on Sunday, October 9, 2011, 17:36:11 Flint is a very good player, but we've won more games with him out of the side than in it!
Title: Re: Aden Flint Post by: leefer on Sunday, October 9, 2011, 17:42:09 Correct Herthab, good player and look forward to seeing him in the team again, fact is his injury coincided with us having a decent run,its up to him to make certain when he plays again that he does enough to stay in the team.
Title: Re: Aden Flint Post by: Simon Pieman on Sunday, October 9, 2011, 18:21:37 We also had 5 clean sheets in a row (in the league) before yesterday. Ignoring stats, I think Flint would be better than McCormack in that position.
Title: Re: Aden Flint Post by: Coca Fola on Sunday, October 9, 2011, 18:29:02 Macclesfield? ;)
Title: Re: Aden Flint Post by: Simon Pieman on Sunday, October 9, 2011, 18:41:23 I was hoping the bright amongst you would have worked out that stat is completely made up
Title: Re: Aden Flint Post by: joteddyred on Sunday, October 9, 2011, 18:42:06 Even if he's not currently first choice, it's foolish not to have him on the bench.
Title: Re: Aden Flint Post by: Notts red on Sunday, October 9, 2011, 19:08:59 Totally agree Jo, perhaps Paolo like many of us thought we would not be fighting for a point v Hereford. We had plenty of attacking options on the bench but very little in the way of cover for defenders, especially centre halfs. I also agree we're poor at defending set pieces but we need to stop giving away stupid free kicks to reduce the threat.
Title: Re: Aden Flint Post by: stfcinbmth on Sunday, October 9, 2011, 19:40:12 How he's not playing is beyond me
Title: Re: Aden Flint Post by: LittleRed on Monday, October 10, 2011, 00:58:25 Devera and Flint would be my defensive pairing. I would suspect that Flint might make a return and I believe mcormack will move up to midfield as Jonathon went off with a knock against Hereford. I Just Hope its not not comazzi at the back, we're all doomed if so!!! I dont recall this defensive pairing much so i would be very interested to see how it goes. Devera has been showing some good form as of late and Flint was doing very well before his injury. Hopefully they will get an opportunity and do well with us leaping up the table.
Title: Re: Aden Flint Post by: Peter Venkman on Monday, October 10, 2011, 08:01:48 PdC said on Saturday before the game in a private interview with Vic that he doesnt think McCormack and Ferry can play together in midfield.
Title: Re: Aden Flint Post by: juddie on Monday, October 10, 2011, 09:32:09 Flint is a very good player, but let's not forget we were conceding a lot of needless goals and not winning when he was in the side. It's easy to see why PDC was reticent to bring him straight back.
For what it's worth, I would have him back now. We seemt o concede from set pieces regardless of whether he plays or not, so it can't hurt! He's strong in the air and with Devera becoming more of a presence, they may improve as a pairing. The trick is to pick a pairing and stick with it... the side is starting to have a familiar feel, which is a good thing IMO Title: Re: Aden Flint Post by: DMR on Monday, October 10, 2011, 15:44:13 If ever there was a classic case of someone's stock rising by virtue of simply not playing, this is it.
Title: Re: Aden Flint Post by: Batch on Monday, October 10, 2011, 15:51:34 To be fair DMR he did win August player of the month, I think that's when his stock rose.
I'm not claiming he'd make a difference to our set piece defending mind. Title: Re: Aden Flint Post by: Langers on Monday, October 10, 2011, 15:54:43 I also think Devera has improved a lot since the early games of the season when he was playing alongside Flint. I'm not suggesting Devera was at fault for all the goals conceding, but they might be a better partnership now Devera has had a chance to settle.

He's definitely fully fit mind you. So dont play McCormack at CB then and stick him on the bench. Sometimes Di Canio's decisions confuse me. Title: Re: Aden Flint Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Tuesday, October 11, 2011, 15:49:53 lets hope so.... we could have the best defence in league 2. caddis devera flint ridehalgh. Our defence is one of the worst in the league. We leak goals too easily. It's about playing as a unit which we struggle with at the back.
