Post by: 4D on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, 13:04:04
I am aiming to recreate this wonderful dish tonight. Got the chooks,  salad etc. I just need some tips, anyone know what the chicken is marinaded in before it's cooked?  I guess I can shop buy garlic Mayo?

That's not true, you also need a van that has dirty floors and walls, minimal hygiene facilities, a wedge of A3 paper sheets and those little paper bags they put them into... oh, and a few flies...

Found a marinade of garlic, cumin, cayenne, lemon juice and olive oil. I might use wraps instead of pitta.   :-[

I do enjoy a good shish or nice chicken. Don't touch doner meat of any form.

I recently had a Doner whilst sober and it was nice to finish it and not find it the next morning !

A shish kebab is a thing of beauty. Doner kebabs I'm much more fussy about, but I'm often tempted by offers like doner meat and chips for £3!

The only problem with shish kebabs is that they never give you enough meat.

True. Although if you find a cheap enough place and go for a large then there's plenty!

But then they give you even more salad too. So proportionately you are still afflicted by the same problem.   :hmmm:

Ahh, hadn't realised your issue was one of proportion! Surely you could just ask for less salad? Whether they understand you or not is a different matter...

Wrong, it was lovely!  Chicken,  mushroom,  cumin, coriander, garlic,  olive oil and lemon. Pitta bread, salad and mayo with lemon juice....sorted. washed down with a couple of ciders  :)

There's a place that does very nice kebabs near where I work. Probably have a chicken shish for lunch once a week.

i've been known to have the grottiest of grotty lamb donners sober... i like 'em. my theory on food is that if it tastes nice and doesn't make me ill, i don't really care what's in it.

I was such a regular at the kebab house around the corner from my (then) house in Southampton that they got upset when I didn't go there the odd week.

They're really not.

I had one on the recommendation from my brother and it was awful.

I'm not a huge kebab fan, unless i'm absolutely wankered, and they seem like the best idea ever. :)

People always mention the Greenbridge one. Might have to try that next time i'm over that way. My places of choice are either Jimmy's opposite B&Q, the one next to the driving test centre or the Shaw kebab shop. I also don't mind Kano's behind Dick Lovett or the one outside Wickes but never really go to them.

The one next to the driving test is good and so is Sammy's, near the Moonrakers pub

I don't think the London born grime artist does a good kebab.

Caner's, on the other hand, are shit hot (quite literally with the chilli sauce :D)

Actually this has just reminded me of a friend at uni who lived a few hundred yards down the road from a kebab shob. But would phone up for 'the usual' and 15 minutes later would have it delivered to his door.

He wasn't that fat which was strange.

When I've been around the Greek islands, my favourite nosh is sheftalia....a thing in a wrap, not unlike in some ways a proper Wiltshire faggot.

I love the way they do their moussaka, it's cooked in a clay pot. Trouble is you can't get anywhere near it for half an hour ! We bought some great metal Kebab spikes back with us. They have Greek gods as handles.

Another thumbs up for Charlies at the Rugby Club here.

Been going there for about 10 years now and never once been ill, none of my mates either.

I now live 347 steps away from it now and probably go there 3 times a month.

Gorse Hill Grill always used to serve pretty good kebabs when I lived down that way.  These days I'm closer to Old Town Kebabs which have always been good when I've had them.
