Title: Exeter City v Swindon Town - Official JPT Matchday Thread
Post by: welshred on Tuesday, October 4, 2011, 06:03:49
Bugger it. I'm going to do this and usher in a new era of dominance for Town on the road.

I do think we'll win tonight. Mainly because its meaningless and Exeter should be better than most of the dross we've played this season.

2-1 victory.

This is a funny one to call. We're shit away from home and can't score. Exeter are near the bottom of the league. Although PDC has stated he'd like to get Wembley, I can't see the fans being arsed. 0-0 lose on pens.

I dont really care about the game even though this will be my first away trip this season.

All I want is us to play some good football and score a few goals and not be embarressed at the back too much, give a couple of squad players a game (keeping inside the rules of the JPT) but I cant see us getting anything down there.

3-1 defeat with The big Czech getting his first for the club with a 1,854 crowd and 185 from Swindon.

2-1 Exeter.

In every other year I've quite liked the idea of progression in the JPT. At least you get to see the fringe players and the chance of Wembley isnot to be sniffed at.

But they are buggering about with it too much with the new rules this year. JPT should not force
any manager to pick players he may not want to.

So sadly I couldn't care less about this one. Would prefer a win and will listen to it, but won't care if we go out.

What new rules are these?

Your starting XI in the JPT has to include at least 6 players who started the last league game I believe.

Not really interested in the outcome of the game, to be honest - but I hope we put in a good performance and maybe involve a few 'forgotten' players on the fringes.

Feels a bit like a friendly to me.

Think we will go through on pens. Hoping to go but Won't know till after lunch.  Three games from a Wembly final has got to get the players up for it no matter what the cup. As a lower league player or overseas player They must dream of playing at stadiums like Wembley.

I agree, but I dont think that motivation is an issue under PdC the issues seem to be defensive lapses or poor quality at the back.

I'm not all that fussed by the result.  Shame about the stupid rules about having to play 6 who played the last league game.  This game should still give a chance for the players that haven't been starting recently and those like Magera who are still settling in.

Few people saying that they aren't bothered about the result, which I can understand as this tournament is not the priority.

However I hate when Swindon lose so I want us to win, and hansomely.

Sadly, our away form will continue and we'll lose 2-1 despite playing quite well.

I'm back in the Don for a week and could easily go to this, but it's the JPT, so I won't. I will listen on the radio, cheer when we score and be pissed off when we concede. But, drive the 2 hours for the JPT, no thanks.

We'll win because it's a cup game and we play better against supposedly higher opposition. We'll also thrash Hereford on Saturday 5-0 (I dreamt it). My main concern is how we play against Accrington and Plymouth, which I fully expect us to lose.

This is the main aspect of tonight game for me, if we can nick a win then hopefully it will contribute to getting our away form back on track.  In saying that our best performance of the season was at the slave traders and that didnt make a difference to the league.

Couldnt give a shit about the competition but the fact is i want us to win every game we play so i'll be pissed off if we lose, i'll just get over it quicker than an important game.

No, no inside info or linking - there was the story that went round he kicked off in the players bar which was complete BS IIRC.

Will the draw be split into 4 sections again on Saturday? Basically is there a good chance we could get Oxford if they win as it looks like they will?

PDC says:
- Happy with start. The team is still a work in progress and there are lots of areas to improve
- Thompson is a utility who he wants to develop
- Recognise its difficult for players if the manager keeps you in the stand. But they have to be professional and ready to play when asked.
- Phil Smith injury. Double hernia
- Smith had surgery 3 years ago for the same problem. PDC angry that he wasnt told by people at the club when he arrived (Hinting at Cady no doubt) or he would have got Smith fit in a different way
- PDC looking for another goalkeeper to push Lanzano while Smith is out.

Did I imagine it, but when moaning about Smith did he also make reference to squad rules too. I couldn't work out if he was pissed off at not being told, pissed off at himself for not reading the rules, or not pissed off at all and completely aware of everything?!

2nd half- they pushed up and we sat back! Dealt with a fair bit of pressure, scored a bit of a worldey goal but never looked like threatening us too much!
All in all an enjoyable game and a good win! Night x

Game doesn't sound that great. Two defensive mistakes from Exeter have resulted in goals.

Ritchie got the ball just inside our half on the RHS. Hit a terrific crossfield pass to Gabby who cut inside and crossed to Connell on the back post. Connell heads back across goal and jervis volleyed into the top corner. And thats a defensive mistake?

I think that he was lamenting the fact that people at the club weren't giving him the support that he, as a new person to the club, needed. He then seemed to talk about trying to fix some of the internal problems.

Just got back, Exeter were awful and we barely got into 4th gear and should have scored a couple more goals!
I thought Lanzano was excellent all night, came for crosses, made good saves and the goal they did score he could do nothing about!

Jervis looks a real handful, hes tall and has lots of pace and an eye for a goal! Interesting to see who starts up front for the next game!

Must admit i only expected around 100-150 Town fans so was pleasantly surprised that there was just under 300 :)

Exeter were poor last night, but they tried to play the ball on floor, which suited us. We won the battle in midfield all night and Abdullah was very effective, nothing flashy but continually breaking up their play and laying the ball off, I only counted a couple of times where his pass went astray.
We do have a tendency to go 'off the boil' in the second half of games and last night was no different.
Jervis looks like the player we've been missing; quick to spot opportunities and always looking to run onto balls. He was blowing out of his arse towards the end, but maybe that's because he hasn't had the benefit of a Paolo pre season?
Not convinced with the goalkeeper yet, the few saves he had to make he did (Couldn't do anything about their goal, which was a bit special) but his kicking and overall distribution was ropey as fuck.
All in all a good team performance.

A bit of a letdown that the terrace wasn't open. The stand we were in must date back to the 1920's!

Time for my view :)

I have read back through this thread an fuck me there is some wierd stuff in here, someone typed get Ritchie off....WTF he was the best player on the pitch by a country mile, he drifted in and out of the game as normal but when he had the ball the guy is class, has a few shots one saved well by their keeper who is one of ths shitest keepers I have ever witnessed in 40 years of watching football! atrocious keeping.

We kept the ball well and played with some style when the ball was on the ground and not hoofed up front by Lanzano, who had a good game, if a little theatrical at times and he does have woeful kicking, almost every kick went right through to their keeper, otherwise pretty solid, they scored an unstoppable goal that would have beaten any keeper.

Lanzano, surprisingly solid, came out and caught the ball a few times, juggled the ball a few times but didnt do a lot wrong, he just scares the bejesus out of me at times!

Caddis, god leader, played really solidly, barely missed a pass and his distribution was very good, even though most of the game he had no one in front of him as Ritchie was wandering all over the pitch looking for the ball.

Cibocchi looked very solid, got forward a couple of times and linked up well with Gabilondo on the left, defended well and was only caught out of position a couple of times, which was covered by Gabilondo and Devera.

Devera looked solid too, didnt give their strikers any time on the ball and nearly scored with a cracking header in the second half, solid.

McCormack looked like hes always played at centre back, reminded me a bit of Calderwood, got beat in the air a couple of times but looked excellent at CB and barely put a foot wrong.

Gabilondo, the guy is an enigma, does the simple things quite badly at times but when he has the ball at his feet man can he shift, and beat his man for speed every time, looked very good on the wing, just wasnt given the ball quite enough.

Ritchie played excellent, passed theball well, ran with the ball and had a few rasping shots, hes a class act and probably overall MOM for me.

Smith, good a bit of pace tracking back, made some good tackles, found a Town shirt with almost every pass he made, looked a little reckless in the tackle at times, will come good if he can time his tackles better.

Abdulla, brilliant, pressed Ritchie for MOM, ran around and has a great engine, can pass the ball well, can tackle, always looking up for options, played in quite a defensive role sat in front of the back 4 but never put a foot wrong all night, worth playing alongside Ferry any day.

Connell, wasnt too bad first half early on, set up the first goal with a good head back to Jervis but otherwise was totally lost and out of his depth, was the poorest player on our side, should have gone off at half time.

Jervis, excellent all round play, led the line well, has bags of pace to burn but just isnt quite that good in the air despite his size, the first goal he took well the second was a brilliant tackle on the keeper, absolutely brilliant, pressed Ritchie as MOM as well.

Kerrouche, looked lost apart from one pretty average freekick that was on target but soft which their keeper almost fumbled into the net, otherwise wasnt at the races.

Risser, fucking terrible, rifled every pass as hard as he could, dived, argued with the ref, utterly shit, get rid of him ASAP.

Thompson, did ok when he was on, slotted in at left back and didnt do anything wrong at all.
Running through our side.

Overall we played well, very well first half, not so well second but Exeter never even looked like scoring, their goal was so out of the blue, no one saw that coming!

Good game, good night, good turn out byt Town fans.

W'ere not going to be able to get a loan keeper in of any sort to sit on the bench it may very well be Rhys Evans on a week to week contract as cover which as emergency cover would be fine until Smith is fit again

We need to sort out the Physio situation though surely as the guy we have is only doing the job part time so surely we need someone in full time to work with players rehab
