Title: A celebration - raise a toast Post by: tans on Thursday, September 8, 2011, 10:19:44 As we can allegedly celebrate the departure of Leon Clarke, lets raise a glass to Shaun Close, who joined the club 22 years ago today.
Shaun was the never the best player, however even he managed to score against the Scum. All hail the Closemeister :beers: Title: Re: A celebration - raise a toast Post by: Ardiles on Thursday, September 8, 2011, 10:25:51 As we can allegedly celebrate the departure of Leon Clarke, lets raise a glass to Shaun Close, who joined the club 22 years ago today. The following 89 mins were not quite as entertaining though. ...which is probably a good thing. Title: Re: A celebration - raise a toast Post by: Gnasher on Thursday, September 8, 2011, 10:49:03 I can't remember Closey ever scoring. Blimey! In that case, all is forgiven.
Title: Re: A celebration - raise a toast Post by: tans on Thursday, September 8, 2011, 10:51:09 He scored twice for the town, tried to claim a third but it was an own goal.

Title: Re: A celebration - raise a toast Post by: tans on Thursday, September 8, 2011, 19:02:25 I remember his goal at the Manor - what was his other goal? Darlington in the rumbelows cup. Herthab, he was.excellent in a Shit way Title: Re: A celebration - raise a toast Post by: Reg Smeeton on Thursday, September 8, 2011, 19:07:34 I remember his goal at the Manor - what was his other goal? V Darlo in the LC....2 legs back then we lost 3-0 at Feethams then turned them over 4-0 at the CG. Dave Bennet recently arived from Man City had his leg broken in the first game. Can't quite remember if it was the 3rd or 4th....but Close sort of hooked it in from about 10 yards as it came across his body. A lot assumed a pre Fjortoft situation of all this bloke needs is a goal then he'll be on his way. He was out of football altogether via the poignant little vignette in the C4 doc....where John Gorman is ringing around clubs trying to find him a gig. I remember that bit in the doc - say what you want about the man (and as a manager he had many failings) but John Gorman was and is one of the most decent blokes in football.
