I wasn't convinced by this so rang Crawley to double check, and they said yes it is being played here.

He does indeed.  Well up for that - it's my mate's 18th that day, but I wouldn't miss Swindon playing in Crawley for my own bloody wedding.  Though knowing mine, and STFC's luck, Crawley will win.

There's a pub on the Broadfield Stadium complex I think, don't know if it's any good as I haven't been there since I was about 9...  Think it's called The Tavern but my memory could be fucking with me.  Probably best place to meet as it's a trek from the town centre where the "good" pubs are...  Though SR is probably best qualified to know the best boozers seeing as he works just a few yards up the road!

This fixture v Crawley will provide a rare example of STFC playing a team who's name is also that of an England Test cricketer......the eponymous John Crawley....he of the getting beaten up in a bar in Cairns.

  In total there are 3 other instances namely I. D. G . Salisbury purveyor of leg break and googly.....we beat Salisbury in the FA Cup 4-0 in 67.

 Shrewsbury......Arthur Shrewsbury who played in the 1890's is a genuine legend of the English game.....he was an early sporting impresario, who took cricket teams to Oz and rugby to NZ.....he was also a very good player, he commited suicide in the Trent Bridge Inn.

 And the Hon CJ Coventry in 1888, who I know nothing about.

Bollocks, I'm working 1-5pm in the Next Sale on the 23rd, which is a real bitch as it'll be a nightmare to convince them to let me off.

So the real issue is, do I pull a sickie (bearing in mind I'm tempted to take the Wednesday off as well as I'm owed a few sickies), or do I tell them the truth and I say I have a hospital appointment and cannot possibly work?   :D

If you ask for the time off and they say no, and then take it as a sickie they'll suss it.

I knew about Crawley and Salisbury but how the hell can you remember about Arthur Shrewsbury.

Right then, looks like we're meeting at The Railway, in Crawley at 1pm. We'll all be driving I think, so it'll be a leisurely pint or two beforehand. Anyone got a problem with this then let me know?

You can do Swindon to Crawley in about 1 and a half hours.

A lot less if Asher's driving I'd have thought!

Hour and a half if you're motoring!  My record is only about 1 hr 20 I think, and that's doing the ton pretty much all the way.

One tip is to go via the M3 to skip all the roadworks on the M25, and shave 10 miles off your journey (but you do drive along slower dual carriageways, 40mph/50mph restrictions etc.).

Using this route can make a huge difference to your journey time. Esp. because of the roadworks between J12 & J15 M25.
Get off the M4 at J10 and head through Bracknell to the M3, then rejoin the M25.

anyone fancy giving me a lift? i have a strange urge to go after today and i'll probably get lost driving there myself  :cry:

Ha ha, think im in nottingham so cant make it.  Although debating selling my hotel room and tickets to the moto gp on ebay....

There's not a carpark I don't think (or if there is it isn't a big one) but on matchdays people tend to park along the grass verges of the dual carriageway strip between the M23 and Broadfield Stadium roundabout.  I'm sure we can find parking places, I'm an expert match-day car-parker.  I parked on someone's driveway for the Brentford away game, and in front of a police/fire/some kind of station for the Colchester game  :D

I got that day off, but the shifts manager moaned like a bitch.  But ahh well, Swindon always comes first!   8)

There is a carpark round the back of the ground (I park there for work) and it's about the size of the CG carpark.

Plenty of other places to park around there also.
