You will be aware of what is happening at Plymouth. They are a proper football club like yours, mine and the rest of us (except perhaps Franchise....) and they are being run by, frankly, idiots. They will be going out of business unless the world of football can help the Plymouth fans make something happen. And so it is time to roll out Fans Re-United. I know Swindon are playing on the 24th, there isn't much you, or anyone else, can do about that but there must be Swindon fans based in Plymouth who want to support their cause as much as the rest of us do.

In 1997 a Plymouth fan set up Fans United to support Brighton in our fight against crooked ownership, and fans of pretty much every club made the effort to turn up on the day in their teams colours and support us in our game against Hartlepool (which we won 5-0!) and now we feel it is time to repay some of that emotional debt by kicking off a Fans Re-United day in aid of Plymouth. We are organising a supporters coach to ferry us down there and are making a big effort to get this going in the national media, TalkSport are already being spoken to and there are mass-twitterings going on as we speak. We play on the friday night, so it is easier for us to give our support, but we're hoping fans of as many league clubs as possible can get down to Home Park for the match, Plymouth need our support. We will be there in colours, that's a large part of the point of the day, and I hope to see Swindon fans down there aswell. Thanks for reading.

Happily, Brighton play Liverpool live on Sky the wednesday before, and then we play Leeds again on Sky on the friday, two perfect opportunities to get the word out. Expect banners, chants and words from important people at our club... But the more traditional have words with TalkSport approach is happening too. The word will get round, Plymouth needn't stand alone! (It's just a shame they are so far away...)

Football has moved on in the last 10 years. Whats happened to Plymouth is because they were paying squad players £10k a week plus in the Championship. The idiots were the ones who sold the club to Japanese investors. There are massive debts there and nothing to pay them with.

Honestly, if I won the lottery tommorow Im not sure Id want to invest in football. Id pay for a new stand and facilities for the fans. But the thought of paying shit players ungrateful players £4k a week when I could use it for local charity or local kids football, is not something Id want.

To be fair to Risdale he's not to blame for the debacle at Plymouth, more the symptom. It was that weird fucking deal/con with the Jap. One of the Beeb's sports reporters did a good piece on it. Think it resulted in something stupid like 12 separate companies being created each responsible for their own individual areas like catering, car parking, etc.

It was a Plymouth fan who came up with the idea of Fans United in 1997, we feel a debt of gratitude and that is a large part of why we are getting involved. Be honest, had we tried to help in your struggles, would you have let us? After 2004, there was just a little bit of animosity directed at us from you, but it is a fair point. You had to fight alone, I understand that. But you had people organising your efforts and you got things done, Plymouth are struggling with that a bit. Hopefully someone will see this and decide to turn up on the day in their Swindon shirt. :)

I agree with some of what you've said in this thread, but making this about Swindon and Brighton uniting is kind of missing the point...

This has nothing to do with Brighton and Swindon uniting, this is about Plymouth and their struggles. I understand your bitterness, to an extent, but I don't see why that should stop any Swindon involvement. We are working hard behind the scenes to make this happen and with any luck, we'll be able to get some national media coverage in the next week to two weeks. We actually have two live games in the days before the 24th, for the Leeds game on the friday we're organising a "Green Day", we're hoping to turn Falmer green to get some attention for what we're doing the following day.

I hope to see atleast one Swindon shirt at Home Park on the 24th, whatever has happened between Brighton and Swindon down the years shouldn't cloud your support of the fans of Plymouth.

I don't think you were referring directly to my comments but just to elaborate that my point is nothing to do with a Brighton fan trying to help out a fellow Football League club. I'm not bothered about Albion.

However, when we were at our most vulnerable dire situation nobody rallied behind us... If anything (in my experience) fans outside of Swindon Town found it all quite amusing etc.

Perhaps it's because I was younger back then but I always remember the feeling from back then when I read/hear the sob stories of other clubs.

One thing I will say (sober) is that football in its current state cannot continue and there will be casualties as we move towards a sustainable professional national game.

Hopefully one of them wont be us, and our current owners will see us through. Fact is that Swindon is a working class Town that suffers from a lack of investment in everything and without our current owners it is very difficult for us to compete or even survive in the Football League. As fans we cannot currently do it on our own, we need football to return to a level where if the owners back out, the fans can keep the club going.
