There are a LOT of rose tinted views about this man right now

Will always remember the superb partnership he formed on the right side with JPM during the playoff season.

I get a semi thinking of him bombing forward on the overlap.

Did a good job for us in the play off season, but a large part of last season was ruined by injury.  Anyone who thinks a fit Manks couldn't do a better job than some of the players we've seen this season is the one wearing rose tinted specs imo.  No doubt he'll end up back in League 1 like the rest of last year's squad.  Meanwhile we lanquish at the foot of League 2 whilst rapidly becoming a complete laughing stock.

Good luck to him.

Did a good job for us in the play-off season?

Started alright, had a purple patch through the winter then slacked off towards the end. People forget he was dropped for Darby.

Always a steady performer, with the occasional moments of brilliance -  rarely the colossus people seem think he was

Dave,no one has said he was a colossus, just a hard worker who always gave his all.

No one said he was a world beater but he was a good solid performer, clearly an asset for us that season.

Exactly - That season. Two years ago.

Paul Caddis is a better player, and more than adequate for this division. Amankwaah is a crock whose best days may well be behind him.

Wish him well for the future, but it's the right decision to get rid.

Good luck Kev, would have liked to see him in the side at the moment. Put in some great performances in 09/10 and was very harshly dropped for Darby.

He wasnt dropped for Darby.

Darby was signed purely because Amankwaah was injured and we had no cover at right back. Darby did a bloody good job and quite rightly kept his place.

I'm disappointed to be honest.  Caddis may be the better player technically but positionally he isn't.

Kev could have been a great asset in this league.

I agree, and was going to write something similar.  I am not convinced by Caddis as a full back.

Good luck to him. I liked Kev.
If they were going to terminate his contract they should have done it in pre season though.

Darby was good defensively but offered no offensive threat whatsoever. Amankwaah did both.

What I don't get is why he wasn't even given a chance.

Disappointed to see him go because on his day he's a decent enough right back (for cover and especially for League Two) but bearing recent injuries/form and Di Canio's obvious preference of Thompson I'm not at all surprised.

The two things that annoy me about his release is that Di Canio seemingly never gave him a chance and why the club waited so long to release him. Going to make it all the more difficult for him to find another club now.

No, he's now a free agent so the transfer window doesnt matter.

He never was a world beater and a bit of a crock, but always gave 100% (when fit) and would be an excellent stand-in if Caddis got injured.

I'm just not sure about the ability or temperament of Thompson - always looked a bit nervous to me. But he's obviously thought of highly by the management - and they certainly know how to spot a good player with an even temperament..oh wait.

I know we should be promoting youth players, but I'd prefer it if Thompson's contract was being cancelled rather than Amankwaah's.

But let's be honest.  This is all about wages isn't it - and more specifically them restricting players coming in.

Best memory of Kevin Amankwaah was him winding up the Brentford fans at Griffin Park, he was battering both their left sided players. Just harder, faster and stronger than them.

Last memory of Kevin Amankwaah, him floundering for Peterborough's fifth goal at London Road. Defensive shambles.

He did well. But injuries have got in the way. Wish him luck, but its unlikely he'll get back to what he was.

Honestly?

If it was a straight choice between the two for a back up right back slot then yes.  I'm all for youth, but right now we need players who can get us out of this division - and that's surely Amankwaah rather than Thompson.

Agree. Considering some of the players who have had a chance it is a strange one for sure

Your post reminded me of Daft Punk. I started making up a crappy song for Amankwaah based on it but then I remembered he isn't here so no point. Alas.

Good luck for the future Kevin. I hope you get a decent club and can show them what you can do.

For us I think there were issues, like wages and fitness/injury liabilities.

Manks on his day could turn it on especially at this level but it is a tough league and this is where Di Canio is absolutely right wrt the fitness levels of the team.

You have to take a step back sometimes to look at the bigger picture with what is going on and I agree it's hard to be objective from a fans point of view when the results are not going your way.

Things are ripe as SN1 for the rumour mongers, the twatter & keyboard warriors to stir things up and Wednesdays end of game antics show what I mean. As the situation unfolded it appeared to from Di Canio's lost to Leon's to blame with the latter now proving to be end game.

PDC was a top pro, played with passion, skill and rubbed shoulders with the biggest names in the game and IIRC came top in all his classes when doing his coaching badges, the blokes no idiot, well...... let's hope not.

It would seem maybe? That everything is black or white and it is his way or the highway or put another way my ball my rules. Fine, but many of today's players are soft compared to the likes of Di Canio and in some ways you can see an element of Brian Clough in him.

In essence players like Kevin and Timms have to make way for the new blood for whatever the reason. Fergie did not get where he is at Man u by being Mr. Nice Guy and those of you in position of responsibility in your workplaces understand that you can't be friends to everyone one minute and tear them off a strip the next, I know I've tried it myself and it only made things worse with some staff. On the flip side you cannot treat people like dogs all the time and expect the best from them.

The club and PDC have had to make some tough decisions since we were relegated and the last thing we need is reckless financial and personal issues cloud the way forward.

Timms and Manks were good servants but no job lasts forever in this modern day, sadly.

Regards

Cheers Manks!

I remember the striding run into the box away at Stockport which won us a pen...we won 1-0 and that piece of play was the only bright thing in the game.

Hope you get a contract.

In fear of asking a stupid question, does "mutual consent" mean we pay no money to Amankwaah for the remainder of his contract? He just goes without any money?

Probably given a sum of money to tear his contract up.

Him and JP tearing oppositions left hand sides to shred two years ago will live long in the memory. A beast of a player on his day. Very injury prone though. Liked him though and gutted to see the back of him.
