Shame Gay Meadow is no more, proper ground. This new plastic standard soulless ground looks pretty uninspiring. Title: Re: Anyone going to Shrewsbury? Post by: Gnasher on Monday, August 22, 2011, 11:26:53 Glad to hear I'm not alone.
The away end at Gay Meadow was the closest thing to prison I've been in! It also smelt like a toilet. I do agree though that the atmosphere is non-existant in these new plastic DIY stadiums. Title: Re: Anyone going to Shrewsbury? Post by: Spud on Monday, August 22, 2011, 12:52:32 I'm going.
Title: Re: Anyone going to Shrewsbury? Shrewsbury is also a very nice town. Traffic is difficult though, although the ground itself isn't too central so it's usually OK. Not that anyone cares, but my son was born in Shrewsbury. This alone makes it ace. Title: Re: Anyone going to Shrewsbury? Post by: Doore on Thursday, August 25, 2011, 13:48:32 Top right hand corner...Kalami....do you know it? Was thinking m5 then m54 to shrewbury but then the m5 through Birmingham is a bit of a Nightmare so is it better to get off the m5 just passed Worcester and go up to Shrewsbury via Ludlow on the A456 then the a49? That's a nice route which I take to see some of my customers. My biggest being in Craven Arms, who incidentally could well be coming to join us on Saturday.... Watch out for the mobile speed camera vans in those villages between Worcester and the A49!!!! If it says 30 mph stick to it. So for me it's M5 JCT6, A449 (TWO STATIC CAMERAS EARLY DOORS) Spur off @ Ombersley and left at the mini roundabout towards Holt Heath on the A443. Then pick up the A456 @ Newnham Bridge and follow all the way through to the A49. Chuck a right and head north Via Ludlow, Craven Arms and Leebotwood to which you'll pick up a dual carriageway and IIRC you should see signs for the new stadium. That's my choice of route as the M5/6 interchange can be a pig and you only need a jack knifed caravan to ruin you plans especially on a B/H week end. Title: Re: Anyone going to Shrewsbury? Post by: Bideford_Robin on Thursday, August 25, 2011, 17:18:48 Any suggestions on car parking? I've not been to the new ground before... I'm told by a Shrews supporting friend of mine that a lot of away fans make the mistake of parking at a large retail park 5 mins from the ground. On matchdays they employ security to check how long the cars are parked and will liberally plaster fines on vehicles. Be warned. And the parking elsewhere around the ground is crap, despite it being out of town. A pub called The Brooklands charges a tenner for parking, and that's 10 mins walk from the ground. A very helpful lady informed me that there is no available official ST parking left. The Brooklands @ £5 AND Pritchards garage opposite also @ £5 are available.
Park and ride seems to be their preferred method of moving the masses or shank's pony. Other than that it's likely to be a free for all on the council estate or chance your arm at the retail park. 2 in my car and picking my customer up somewhere in Shrewsbury (friends BBQ apparently). As the SS man on the Great Escape says to the POW getting off the bus, "Good Luck". Fatbasher Title: Re: Anyone going to Shrewsbury? If anyone wants/needs a lift from the South East then PM me - my fuel rates are very competitive and my choice in power ballard based music is awful.
Not looking forward to this challenge of finding a parking space though. Title: Re: Anyone going to Shrewsbury? Post by: REDBUCK on Friday, August 26, 2011, 15:21:42 Just spoke to ST. Title: Re: Anyone going to Shrewsbury? Post by: MattSTFC on Friday, August 26, 2011, 18:21:30 Great! Let's build an out of town stadium and not provide any parking. The stadium has 670 parking spaces, the maximum we could provide under government legislation at the time, i.e. 1 for every 15 spectators. All the spaces are allocated or have been sold to permit holders. Title: Re: Anyone going to Shrewsbury? Post by: MattSTFC on Friday, August 26, 2011, 18:23:05 Decided against the train.
