Title: Bournemouth Airshow Post by: stfcinbmth on Friday, August 19, 2011, 12:43:33 Just off to Southbourne Beach to catch the airshow, it appears to be sunny for a change. We have hired a beach hut for today and tomorrow, so looking forward to lots of spectacular noise. Can't wait for the Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster, awe inspiring

Title: Re: Bournemouth Airshow Post by: Bob's Orange on Friday, August 19, 2011, 13:07:11 We really do have some fucking oddjobs on here Sometimes I think you are overly harsh but that comment actually amused me! Title: Re: Bournemouth Airshow Post by: Processed Beats on Friday, August 19, 2011, 13:56:16 I thought it was being called off after the flooding yesterday?
Anyways, Southbourne is lovely. Holidayed there for the last eight years (family holidays) and, whilst its not as renowned as Bournemouth or Boscombe, it's less busy and still the same, lovely coastline. Title: Re: Bournemouth Airshow Post by: Ardiles on Friday, August 19, 2011, 13:58:53 Never realised there was an airshow in Bournemouth. Decent line up, by the looks of it. We don't have one in Farnborough this year (alternates each year with Paris Airshow), but already looking forward to next year's.

Farnborough is quality, worked there about 5 years ago. Not really a plane person but some of the kit they had there was mighty impressive. Title: Re: Bournemouth Airshow Post by: wiggy on Friday, August 19, 2011, 17:34:46 Went to the Bournemouth one 2 years ago and had a great time.
Title: Re: Bournemouth Airshow Post by: THE FLASH on Friday, August 19, 2011, 19:12:22 Saw the Red Arrows in Fowey last night...they were the bollocks!
Title: Re: Bournemouth Airshow Post by: stfcinbmth on Friday, August 19, 2011, 20:24:29 David isnt miserable Maybe he just had a bad childhood then, just strikes me as very negative about everything, each to their own I guess. Anyhow I'm not really a plane person but to back up what FLASH stated, I happened to be lucky enough to be caught in a traffic jam on the way to work Wednesday night by B'mth airport when the Red Arrows were coming in to land, it was basically one every 20 seconds or so, great show. Spitfire, Lancaster, Hurricane and the Red Arrows, that's four of the very few things that make me proud to be British Title: Re: Bournemouth Airshow Post by: Batch on Friday, August 19, 2011, 20:31:22 Maybe he just had a bad childhood then, just strikes me as very negative about everything, each to their own I guess. I think you should read it again, you may have missed the point! Quote Spitfire, Lancaster, Hurricane and the Red Arrows, that's four of the very few things that make me proud to be British Shame the Vulcan is grounded with a fuel leak. Always get a bit of a lump in the throat watching the Sparrows. My dad was based at Kemble when they were there. Mind you its all about the planes, he's a ManU supporting tosser who left my mum when I was 3! Title: Re: Bournemouth Airshow Post by: stfcinbmth on Friday, August 19, 2011, 20:33:26 You might have to spell it out Batch, I'm a bit thick
Title: Re: Bournemouth Airshow Post by: Batch on Friday, August 19, 2011, 20:56:25 Plenty of miserable twats too David isnt miserable I think he was saying he isn't miserable, but IS still a twat. All in jest, I'm sure. Title: Re: Bournemouth Airshow Post by: Bewster on Friday, August 19, 2011, 21:15:22 I worked at the Fairford Airshow for some years and wasn't a big plane fan - however there is something special about the WWII planes and the Vulcan - something british we can be proud of.
The sparrows are very good but the Italians are fucking mental. Title: Re: Bournemouth Airshow Post by: Batch on Friday, August 19, 2011, 22:11:58 but the Italians are fucking mental. best-commentary-ever Title: Re: Bournemouth Airshow Post by: Ironside on Saturday, August 20, 2011, 10:31:47 Just off to Southbourne Beach to catch the airshow, it appears to be sunny for a change. Can't wait for the Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster, awe inspiring I am a former Air Cadet (sad I know!) and I remember going to RAF Wroughton when it was still operational for the Great Warbirds show. Spitfire Hurricane Lancaster Mosquito And quite a few foreign WW2 planes They also had Jaguar Harrier Tornado And my all-time favourite, the mighty Vulcan Hope you enjoy it. Title: Re: Bournemouth Airshow Post by: stfcinbmth on Saturday, August 20, 2011, 13:42:54 They have already done their bit. Hope the pilot got out ok, great shame
Title: Re: Bournemouth Airshow Post by: Nijholts Nuts on Saturday, August 20, 2011, 13:47:31 Had a good 'perv' over The Vulcan when I was working at Yeovilton. It taxied right onto our apron outside our hangar, it was amazing to get up close to such an amazing aircraft.
Title: Re: Bournemouth Airshow Post by: Batch on Saturday, August 20, 2011, 17:48:05 Not good news on the downed Arrow
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2028228/Red-Arrows-pilot-killed-crash-near-Bournemouth-Airport-festival-display.html RIP Red #4 Title: Re: Bournemouth Airshow Post by: ghanimah on Saturday, August 20, 2011, 17:54:32 Not good news on the downed Arrow http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2028228/Red-Arrows-pilot-killed-crash-near-Bournemouth-Airport-festival-display.html RIP Red I read that he had been killed on twitter early this afternoon and it then got retracted. https://twitter.com/HONOUROURFORCES Sad to hear that it is true. RIP Title: Re: Bournemouth Airshow Post by: Gnasher on Saturday, August 20, 2011, 17:57:53 That's really sad news. You never expect anything to go wrong in a Red Arrows display.
Title: Re: Bournemouth Airshow Post by: stfcinbmth on Saturday, August 20, 2011, 18:41:01 Well what can you say, devastating news, feel for his family and colleagues. Those guys give so much pleasure to so many, skill of the very highest order
RIP MR Arrow Title: Re: Bournemouth Airshow Post by: Essexred on Saturday, August 20, 2011, 19:03:39 Saw the Red Arrows on Thursday in Cornwall and they were amazing. Incredible skill and such a terrible shame that this pilot will never get to show off their talent again. Sad day.
Title: Re: Bournemouth Airshow Post by: thedarkprince on Saturday, August 20, 2011, 20:21:55 Where does it say the pilot died? That article just says the MOD refuse to confirm whether the pilot ejected or even if he's hurt.
Title: Re: Bournemouth Airshow Post by: thedarkprince on Saturday, August 20, 2011, 20:24:48 Ah okay, Beeb reporting the pilot as Flt Lt Jon Egging, 33.
Very sad news. Title: Re: Bournemouth Airshow Post by: Ironside on Saturday, August 20, 2011, 20:45:06 Fuck.
Gutted because these guys really were fucking awesome. "On the wings of angels" Thanks. Title: Re: Bournemouth Airshow Post by: stfcinbmth on Saturday, August 20, 2011, 20:54:36 I can only guess but it seems he picked one of the few unbuilt up areas, maybe if he'd have ejected things could have been a lot worse. True hero

True hero heard about this from my cousin who lives in ballmouth. Looks like he may have died trying to protect the lives of others. Was going to go up uffington white horse bank hol monday as they were going to do a show there. Unlikely now i'd think Title: Re: Bournemouth Airshow Post by: THE FLASH on Saturday, August 20, 2011, 21:50:34 Gutted....probably saw this guy the other evening....great shame...
Title: Re: Bournemouth Airshow Post by: Batch on Saturday, August 20, 2011, 21:51:34 Was going to go up uffington white horse bank hol monday as they were going to do a show there. Unlikely now i'd think Grounded until further notice, the cause of the crash needs to be known before they can even contemplate going up again. Display season finishes end of September. Not sure if they'll go back up or not - they are ultra professionals, and red 10 could fill in, but it must be like losing one of the family the amount of time they spend together. Where does it say the pilot died? That article just says the MOD refuse to confirm whether the pilot ejected or even if he's hurt. The mail must have got lent on for releasing the info before the MOD did. Mind you, they also claimed this is the 7th crash for the Arrows, and the first fatality. Unfortunately not true. Title: Re: Bournemouth Airshow Post by: thedarkprince on Saturday, August 20, 2011, 21:58:04 Was going to go up uffington white horse bank hol monday as they were going to do a show there. Unlikely now i'd think Apparently they've been grounded so expect that will last until the investigation is complete and they've identified what caused the accident. Title: Re: Bournemouth Airshow Post by: stfc11 on Monday, September 19, 2011, 20:12:02 Was up in Newcastle at the weekend and saw them fly over The Great North Run in the missing man formation for Red 4.
