Title: The pox away....a few questions Post by: 4D on Thursday, August 18, 2011, 13:52:09 I will be attending the away game in March, and since I have only visited the minor ground before, I have a few questions....
How many away fans does their triangle house? Will I need an ox postcode if I can't get a ticket? Where's the nearest train station? Ditto pub? Ta. Title: Re: The pox away....a few questions Post by: Batch on Thursday, August 18, 2011, 13:53:32 Top planning ahead.

Are you a ST holder. I reckon you should be fine if so. Last time we played there (cup) I got 2 tickets no bother and I was not a ST holder then. As for nearest pub, or whether you need an Ox postcode to go in the wrong end (! - likely you will) that will not be known until Club/Police issue advice closer to the game. Check here for 'normal' away fans advice: http://www.awaygrounds.com/oxford-united-kassam-stadium/ Train station is 4 miles away according to link. I'm not sure if the capacity is less these days and for league games. I had no trouble getting a ticket either. Probably! I thought the nearest station was in the city centre (ie, miles away). There are buses though. Pubs - you might as well go to the city centre pubs, near the station! I doubt it, but that's probably the only hope for most of us non-ST holders getting a ticket!
Title: Re: The pox away....a few questions Post by: Reg Smeeton on Thursday, August 18, 2011, 14:27:01 There's a lot of football to be played before march....

Rephrase that Reg......there are a lot of matches. Title: Re: The pox away....a few questions Post by: Thememoriesgone on Friday, August 19, 2011, 07:35:21 Well as the game is a 12 Oclock kick off,i dont think drinking in the city centre is an option.
There are no buses direct to the ground, you have to go to Blackbird leys (40 minutes on a saturday)then a 10 min walk through the estate. It takes about 40 mins in a taxi and will cost you £20 ! The only pubs within walking distance are The Priory,(usually away fan friendly, but not for this one) And the Blackbird and The Bullnose Morris on the estate (not recommened) you can also drink in the Bowling alley, takes (20 minutes to get a pint) What me and my mates tend to do for big games is drink in the Oxy chinese restaurant, they dont mind you just having a drink,(as long as you dont sit down)its actually cheaper than the Priory,it seats about 150 so if you fancy something to eat (doubtful for a early kick off)its £6.95 eat as much as you like.Far better than the pigswill in the ground. As for tickets in the home end, very unlikely, you will get 2,500,so with segregation there will only be about 9,500 tickets for home supporters.Would imagine with 4,200 S/T holders and 4,000 members, there will be vouchers for the rest. The Four Candles (Weatherspoon's) opens at 8am and it's about 10 min walk from the station Title: Re: The pox away....a few questions Post by: Arriba on Friday, August 19, 2011, 09:03:39 Lets get the home game over and done with first eh.
Title: Re: The pox away....a few questions Post by: Panda Paws on Friday, August 19, 2011, 09:04:35 Some way off but....Surely, in the same way Wilts are doing for them, there'll be a football special and a frog march to a designated pub? Personally will probably drink in Swindon before the football special then go where I'm told to go while having my rights impeded in true Coca Fola-style.

And I thought there were buses direct to the ground? There are certainly buses that, after the final whistle, go back to the city. So I'd have thought that the services before the match are still running too. And the Oxy have lowered their prices if its £6.95 all you can eat, it was about £12.95 when I went in there about a year ago. Doesnt sell alcohol till 9am,need 90 minutes on a Saturday to get to the ground,Oxford boozer, think you can forget that one. As for getting off the train and being allocated a pub, wouldnt think so,simply due to the location of the ground to the station. Oxford in the Merlin, police will start clearing the pub at 11.30-12.00, and walk to the ground, with the intention of getting everyone in the ground at least a half hour before kick off. To do that at Oxford, they would have to start clearing the pub at 9.30am. Didnt they just round you up and bus you straight to the ground for the F.A. cup tie? P.S.to get to The Four Candles by 8.am if you are travelling by train, bearing in mind you have to change at Didcot,i estimate you would have to get a train around 6.30am from Swindon, are you that desperate for a drink? As for the buses they only run 2,and thats for 3pm games on a Saturday. The Oxy is £13.95 in the evening and £6.95 for lunch. |
