Post by: Matchworn Shirts on Tuesday, August 9, 2011, 09:15:42
On this day in 2003, Jimmy sadly passed away.

Cannot believe that really was eight years ago. RIP Jimmy

Another reason why the first game of the season vs Sheff wed that day was memorable. The rumours of his death spread through the ground quickly. A very gifted player and a sad loss

Was only 9 when I saw Jimmy play. Think the second home home of the season, Notts County rings a bell? When the minutes silence was held and after the whole ground burst into 'Theres only 1 Jimmy Davis' Loudest I can remember, real talent. RIP.

That game at Wycombe was unbelievable, excellent performance by him, scored the 1st goal I think. That last minute winner from Parkin, went mental in the rain!!!! Happy days.

you're right about the first goal ...  think Billy Paynter must have got the second.  But wet, slippy, skiddy - ideal for Jimmy with his low centre of gravity, his swerves and close control and the SSP winner.  They were certainly happy days.

Wasn't Paynter he signed for us in 2007. SSP got both goals!

Not only the minutes silence but his mother spoke over the tannoy before the game (which I remember hearing crystal clear, oddly)

Of course, her speech about her son was touching and how much he enjoyed his time at Swindon was nice to hear.

However, what really got me - was the fact she came here to do the speech. Not at Manchester United where he was a young player not at Watford where he was a current loan player - but here, so her words were sincere and truthful. We were the club he played for, he was our player and we were his fans.

Such a shame.

RIP Jimmy.

I remember it vividly, there's not much that makes me well up but it was a struggle to fight back the tears as she began to cry. Absolutely heartbreaking but very sincere in what she said.

soapy tit wank me too damn weather  :D

I know it's never gonna happen but it would be great if the club renamed the Adkins stand after that expires to the Jimmy Davis Stand and invite his family back for the renaming

We beat Notts Co. 4/5-0 and Jimmy's parents were at the game. His Mum spoke on the tannoy before the game kicked off and that's what sparked the "one Jimmy Davis" song throughout the first half and into the second.

A great atmosphere generated from a tragedy.

Sad and inspiring at the same time.

did anyone else on here go to the tribute game up at Reddich a year after his passing?
Plenty of town fans went and it was a good day.

Yeah it was a really good day. I think Watford did one the year after?

He was just a fantastic player for us. The most memerable town loanie during my time of watching anyway. The 6-1 Southend game in the LDV, the Wycombe and the Tranmere game the week after he was immense. I honestly believe if he was still alive he would have gone on and played for Man Utd, I think he was in the same youth side as Darren Fletcher, Chris Eagles etc.
