Title: Bristol City

Whats the easiest way to get from the ground to the train station after the game? Do you think the police will hold the last train which is at 10.45?

I'd love to think they would but i'm thinking not a chance. If it goes to extra time and pens your stuffed. I'm driving.....

It will depend on how many town fans have gone by train and how keen the Police are to get rid of them. I've been there ages ago when they did hold a train, but there was about 200 of us getting marched to the station that time. I wouldn't expect them to hold it this time

walk down to the river and follow it along and you will come out next to temple meads. There are quicker ways but that is the easiest

They did mention over the tannoy at the reading game, if it does go extra time and pens you WILL miss the last train. No waiting around for town fans I'm afraid.

We'll prob have to book a taxi, and prob just play it by ear.

I also have a spare adult ticket. £10. Any takers?

Yeah, about that. If you're wearing a town shirt you may find that you have to run it rather than walk it!

The away part of the Wedlock stand can accomodate 2,800 away fans, unlikely we will fill that but you never know.

We filled it several times back in the 80's when it was the open end behind the goal, like the old stratton bank, but we rarely get anywhere near filling it these days and as you say not for a 1st round LC game.

Think thats for League games, where they put City fans in the other side of the Wedlock. Wouldnt expect City fans in there for this game. Id love to see us fill that whole end one day, but then it does hold about 5000 fans! Best Ive seen was the 2-1 win, the Henderson double, our fans were immense that day, fantastic.

That was an amazing away day. The section we had was very close to being full. Mr Henderson was utterly superb (and he wasn't even fit) in that game. You are right, our fans were amazing too, the police walked a load of them the long way round and what seemed like a couple of hundred came in with 20mins ish gone, realised we were winning and raised the atmosphere.

One of my favourite away days (plus I lived in Bristol at the time  & went around for weeks proudly sporting my shirt)

On the way out a City fan angrily approached me and started shouting over-and-over again "sing to my face then, go on sing to my face" before stomping off...and then an old man took a swipe at me with his walking stick.

Quite an unpredictable one after the weekend's results. Our lads should be well up for this one as a chance to prove themselves against Championship opposition, whilst City could go one of two ways after the weekend. Let's hope they don't bounce back too strongly!

Not as far as I know, I think we were in the GW or whatever it's called opposite Swindon train station until about 12ish and then jumped on the train with loads of other Swindon. The OB kept us at Temple Meads for about half an hour and then made us walk for fucking miles to the ground. It was hot that day too.  We tried to jump in a cab but the OB wouldn't have any of it.

Let's be honest, we were lucky to get back to a position where Crewe allowed us to start controlling the game.

A stronger team would have killed that game off early on, and we'd have been fighting an uphill battle. Are Bristol City strong enough to do that under such circumstances? I hope not.

For me the game is all about the opening 30 minutes. If we survive that while the team is still gelling and getting used to the pace at this level, we could do well, if we go 1-0 or 2-0 down early on, it will be interesting to see how the team spirit holds out (we all know what would have happened last year!!)

Despite my pessimism above, I'm still opting for a 2-1 win for the town! COYR!!

Just because we started slowly against Crewe it doesn't mean we'll do the same tomorrow. It was only a friendly, yes, but in the Reading game it was the first half where we looked impressive.  As I said above, tomorrow night is a complete unknown. If we do win it'll be a bit of a "shock", if not necessarily a surprise. If we lose, hopefully we'll go down fighting against a better team.

Title: Re: Bristol City
Post by: luckyluke699 on Monday, August 8, 2011, 14:13:23
I'm not suggesting it's a dead cert we'll start slowly, but it's completely plausible that we are more likely to be caught on the back foot for a while at times against good sides for a couple of weeks, which is what PDC himself implied in the radio interview after the game.

You're right though, what we are definitely in a no lose situation against City tomorrow! Can't wait to get there... :-)

It's very small scale in Bristol, by comparison.

http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/Bristol-riots-eye-witness-report/story-13096551-detail/story.html

Plus, they can't be expecting a particularly large crowd tonight (at the football that is, rather than St. Pauls). Doesn't help that it's a local derby, but I'd still be very surprised and dissapointed if it's off.

The thing is how late do they leave it to postpone the game?! My train is at 11...

I work in the city centre but have to drive through St Pauls. I have seen some burnt out refuse bins and some broken glass and bricks but not much more. Having said that I will be astounded if the game is on

Why? Because someone set fire to a couple of wheelie bins or are they expecting more tonight?

I'm sure the bin fires are pretty normal in St Paul's although maybe not on a monday.

It's very small scale in Bristol, by comparison.

That report looks encouraging then. Moreso than the BBCs report.

Mate of mine is listening to Wiltshire radio at work. He's just told me that they've had a meeting and its on at the moment but a final decision will be made at lunchtime. Sorry Sippo
