First single released on Monday - The Death of You and Me.  I like it a lot - sounds like The Importance of Being Idle.  Anyone have any thoughts, or care at all?

Heard it on t'radio on my drive to work the other day. I liked it.

Its fucking awesome. Noel has always been more gifted than Liam when it comes to vocals in my opinion. Beady Eye can take a step back now, Noels back.

Great tune.

Naturally he is definitely the better singer - but Liam's voice worked better for the early stuff.  Noel singing the whole of Definitely Maybe wouldn't work.  Noel often wrote songs in a key dependent on who would sing them.  Imagine Noel singing Supersonic - not good.  Equally, Liam singing Don't Look Back in Anger or Little by Little - not good.

But overall - yes, I agree.

And in turn i agree with this, Liams voice suits certain songs, the one that all ways sticks with me is his voice in 'Summmmm migh' sayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy'

Urgh, this thread has reminded me how much I love Oasis, Beady Eye and solo Noel Gallagher.

Liam was the best vocalist and front man around when they were still together, not the most gifted of singers in real terms but for sheer presence and atmosphere he was a machine, my biggest hero for the best part of a decade.

having said all that i've been so excited for noel to go solo and having both beady eye and noel around will hopefully be the start of a great era and rivalry.

as for the song, as expected.  i wonder if we'll ever get to hear clocks (think that's what it's called?) which i'm sure noel said was his finest work but couldn't find a place for it for oasis

EDIT:  just read the song was 'Stop the clocks' same as the best of album and will be on the new album!! sweet

Give me early Oasis over this any day of the week. This wouldn't make a B side on Definitely Maybe or What's The Story.

Spot on Batch.  It's so middle of the road.  Like Noel has had his personality sucked out of him (so to speak) and replaced by a middle aged, middle class bloke with nothing to say.

Happens to a lot of bands that I like. Prime examples, New Order and Depeche Mode.

I was a massive Oasis fan during their 90's peak but the last 3 or 4 albums were average at best.

Noel will do ok on his own, clearly wants to move his music in a slightly different direction.  Liam can't write decent songs at all (Songbird anybody?) and has just become a caricature of a 90's indie frontman, which at the time he was superb at but now is cringeworthy.

Songbird was a great song.

Looking forward to hearing the new High Flying Birds album.

My favourite Oasis CD is a bootleg version of an unplugged MTV set he did in about 1995/1996. Liam had a sore throat and pulled out last minute. Noel played on his own, performed about 11-12 songs and it was just brilliant.

I agree that a lot of Oasis songs wouldn't have worked without Liam; Champagne Supernova, Live Forever, Some Might Say, Rock N Roll Star and probably my favourite, Stop Crying Your Heart Out.

I always liked their attitude and swagger, its what made them so interesting and stand apart. Well if you consider what bands are considered big now, Oasis are sorely missed, especially compared to the vomit-inducing, middle-of-the-road, over-hyped, dad-rock-shite Coldplay.

Always had a soft spot for this Noel Gallagher effort though, it appeared on a Jam tribute album.

Fan of Oasis, both the bombastic Liam-sung stuff and the softer Noel ones, but the last couple of albums were eh at best (although I love Heathen Chemistry despite people repeatedly telling me it's shite) so new direction sounds good to me.

Heathen Chemistry was a very good album, I also enjoyed their last one (Dig Out Your Soul).
Their worst album by far was Don't Believe The Truth.

Not a great fan of the new Noel track though, but it may grow on me.

I liked Don't Believe The Truth more than Dig Out Your Soul. Heathen Chemistry was fantastic.  Their worst album was Standing on the Shoulder of Giants.  There's only 3 good tracks on it.

Fuckin' in the Bushes was a fantastic intro, Who Feels Love, Gas Panic! and Sunday Morning Call are great songs.

I like three of those, not Gas Panic!  All the other songs on the album are pretty poor.

But what do I know - I like Be Here Now!

It wouldn't be too bad if it was four minutes long.  I really like My Big Mouth, Magic Pie, I Hope I Think I Know and even It's Getting Better (Man!!!).

Be Here Now is good, that's why... in fact, i'd say brilliant.

Superb....Heard Noel will also be guesting on the forthcoming solo album by former Jam bass player Bruce Foxton..Looking forward to hearing the Flying Birds album.

Oasis were a great band and always will be. They'll have their critic saying the first 2 albums were their best. Maybe the their best sales but for the music all of their albums had amazing tunes. Gas Panic, Stand By Me, Part of the Queue, Rapture and Fucking in the Bushes is one of/if not the best walk on intro tune ever.

Liam cant pen songs (lucky with Meaning of Soul but Little James is appalling). Noel can. I didnt find Beady Eyes album shit but at the same time nothing on it was that good.

Noels should be much better, if its not its not. Ill still fucking buy it.

Bought the album on Monday.  Clearly some will hate it.  Fair enough.  For those who are Noel fans - I think he might have held back some songs from the last couple of Oasis albums to use for this - because the album is brilliant.  Nine out of ten songs are better than most he's done in years.  Special mention to "If I had a gun" and "AKA...Broken Arrow".

I like Noel Gallagher a lot.

Noel definatley comes across as less of a c u next Tuesday than his brother

I'm giving this album it's first try today. So far my ears are loving it. Noel is a genius.
