Title: this better not be true! Post by: kaufman on Friday, July 8, 2005, 20:08:53 rumours of gareth whalley going to grimsby instead!
could be bollocks lets hope so! http://boards.rivals.net/default.asp?sid=909&p=16&forumid=5121 Title: this better not be true! Post by: DV on Friday, July 8, 2005, 20:13:56 I hope not
Title: this better not be true! Post by: Dazzza on Friday, July 8, 2005, 20:21:04 Can't find anything to back it up. I'll listen to a bit of Radio Humberside and see if it confirms the story.
As pointed on the Adver the story has slipped off the official site. Origional Link: http://www.swindontownfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/News/NewsDetail/0,,10341~682115,00.html No mention of any contract being signed just a verbal agreement by the looks of it. Grimsby have assembled quite a good squad for next season. That said if Whalley drops to that level then maybe it's for the best. Perhaps lacking in that ambition King thought he had. Arse! Title: this better not be true! Post by: Bedford Red on Friday, July 8, 2005, 20:32:53 I've looked on BBC Radio Humberside Website and can't see anything on there to back it up.
I'd be surprised if he chose Grimsby, if he was moving purely for money most other clubs could offer more than us and he could get better than Grimsby, let's just hope it's rumours. Title: this better not be true! Post by: Bedford Red on Friday, July 8, 2005, 20:52:07 BBC Radio Humberside have just said that he has stalled on signing for Swindon, and Grimsby have talked to him but nothing has been signed/decided yet. They are hoping to announce definately tomorrow.
Doesn't sound good. Title: this better not be true! Post by: Dazzza on Friday, July 8, 2005, 20:53:16 Fuck, sorry chaps is true!
News on Humberside states that they are 'trying to bring the player to the club'. Apparently he's stalled on signing a contract for us. Statement from the manager due in the morning. http://www.unb.br/ig/prof/ReinhardtAdolfoFuck.htm Not a done deal but really doesn't look good at all I'm afraid. :( Title: this better not be true! Post by: Bedford Red on Friday, July 8, 2005, 20:54:42 Obviously listening to the same thing as me Dazzza.
I agree, the fact that he's talked to them and stalled on signing with us doesn't bode well at all. Title: this better not be true! Post by: Dazzza on Friday, July 8, 2005, 20:59:14 Just a bit tagged on the end gave the impression he's signed something but it's not clear what.
Think they have it in the bag the fact the manager is making a statement in the morning. Oh well we still have a Miglioranzi to play with, if he can hit form with a good holding midfielder like this Smith chap then we'll still be laughing. Title: this better not be true! Post by: Bedford Red on Friday, July 8, 2005, 21:02:24 I know, it's just disappointing after he'd verbally agreed to sign for us, and then money has obviously come into it as he's going to go to a lower league club, 3 year contract maybe swayed it as well.
Title: this better not be true! Post by: DV on Friday, July 8, 2005, 21:12:37 Lets wait and see, hopefully the lure of League One is too much to turn away
If he has been offered a 3 year contract then I expect he'll take it over the 1 year we have no doubt offered him Title: this better not be true! Post by: Papa Smurf on Friday, July 8, 2005, 22:04:57 If he does sign for Grimsby I'm sure the 3 year deal offered is the main reason. Is he 31? If so a 3 year contract could lead him to the end of his career. Whereas with us he may end up having to retire at 32.
Title: this better not be true! Post by: sonicyouth on Friday, July 8, 2005, 22:43:41 It's still a joke that he'd chose to drop an another division to play his football, three year contract or otherwise :/
Title: this better not be true! Post by: Amir on Friday, July 8, 2005, 22:49:24 I've not known enough about it/him to get excited anyway, so fuck him. Who's this Smith then?
Title: this better not be true! Post by: Crozzer on Saturday, July 9, 2005, 00:28:26 If he went back on an agreement, we don't want him anyway. I am sure King is checking his list and checking it twice, and will come up with a better alternative.
Title: this better not be true! Post by: Kinky Tom on Saturday, July 9, 2005, 00:36:03 It can't be because of distance at least, as Grmisby is about the same travel time to Manchester as Swindon, maybe a little closer, but not much.
He'd be daft to go there really, from his point of view a good year with us will probably be more profitable to him than 3 in Grimsby, afterall it will give him options at the end of a year, no-one will pay a transfer fee for him, so a bad year there could see him earn less over his last few years than here. Yeah I agree, shame if we don't get him after he gave his word he'd sign as he looked decent but if he's got offered a longer contract that could decide it. No doubt King will just find someone else if this one falls through. Title: this better not be true! Post by: kaufman on Saturday, July 9, 2005, 09:31:20 anyone heard anything else about this yet?
Title: this better not be true! Post by: Bob's Orange on Saturday, July 9, 2005, 09:34:48 I'm pretty sure this Grimsby story is true. Why else would the official site take the story off of the front page?
Bloody fishy people!! :fu: Title: this better not be true! Post by: stfc11 on Saturday, July 9, 2005, 14:07:07 Slade expects Whalley miss
Sat 09 Jul, 2:53 PM Grimsby are set to lose out to Swindon in the race to sign Wigan midfielder Gareth Whalley. Mariners boss Russell Slade confirmed he has spoken to the former Bradford and Crewe midfielder about the possibility of securing his switch to Blundell Park. But Slade has now all but admitted defeat in his attempts to lure the 31-year-old to the club and revealed the Robins are on the verge of completing Whalley's transfer. "With his quality, there was always going to be a lot of interest when you think he has been playing regularly in the Championship," Slade told the club's official website. "I was hoping to speak to him this weekend and I knew that Swindon had spoken to him. "But once the link between ourselves and him was out, I knew it would be harder to tie him down and he got in touch with me to tell me he was accepting the offer from Swindon."
