As pointed on the Adver the story has slipped off the official site. Grimsby have assembled quite a good squad for next season. That said if Whalley drops to that level then maybe it's for the best. Perhaps lacking in that ambition King thought he had. I'd be surprised if he chose Grimsby, if he was moving purely for money most other clubs could offer more than us and he could get better than Grimsby, let's just hope it's rumours. They are hoping to announce definately tomorrow.

If so a 3 year contract could lead him to the end of his career. Whereas with us he may end up having to retire at 32.

He'd be daft to go there really, from his point of view a good year with us will probably be more profitable to him than 3 in Grimsby, afterall it will give him options at the end of a year, no-one will pay a transfer fee for him, so a bad year there could see him earn less over his last few years than here. Yeah I agree, shame if we don't get him after he gave his word he'd sign as he looked decent but if he's got offered a longer contract that could decide it. Mariners boss Russell Slade confirmed he has spoken to the former Bradford and Crewe midfielder about the possibility of securing his switch to Blundell Park. But Slade has now all but admitted defeat in his attempts to lure the 31-year-old to the club and revealed the Robins are on the verge of completing Whalley's transfer. "With his quality, there was always going to be a lot of interest when you think he has been playing regularly in the Championship," Slade told the club's official website. "I was hoping to speak to him this weekend and I knew that Swindon had spoken to him. "But once the link between ourselves and him was out, I knew it would be harder to tie him down and he got in touch with me to tell me he was accepting the offer from Swindon."
