Title: MARCHE XI v STFC - OFFICIAL MATCHDAY THREAD
Post by: oakleigh2010 on Wednesday, July 13, 2011, 11:01:02
On our way to the game. Please do not expect any live match updates from this profile. The match is in a very remote location (outside Norcia - pronounced 'Nor-cha' - Umbria). I suggest checking out Gary Rose's Twitter profile (anyone got the details) for live updates?.

Looking forward to this game being a sterner test than last Saturday and giving the defence a workout. 36C here at the moment. That's kind compared to 41C the other day. Can't wait to see you all at Ciren.

Re: matchday ticket prices - the matches here are free!

Cheers. I bumped into a family from Swindon on the train who are also on their way to the game. Three generations of 'em. An older lady, her daughter Glennda and her two grandsons Hendrix and Marley. Unfortunately they have an absent father who lost his job about a year ago for abusing his work's email system by relaying messages from them when they were on tour with the Town in Austria.

When we meet up at the ground we plan to start a Mexican wave. Hope that gets the atmosphere going.

Hope this game is more of a test, a demolition against another pub team will be pretty useless.

He can play Attacking Midfield / Wide Right guess our lack of striking options is to why he is there.

Also the only reason this team is as it is, is because they did well saturday nothing set in stone according to Gary Rose

Title: Re: MARCHE XI v STFC - OFFICIAL MATCHDAY THREAD
Post by: Ardiles on Wednesday, July 13, 2011, 16:46:11
Sounds as if a fit Esajas would take the pressure off the general lack-of-striker situation, to a degree.

Title: Re: MARCHE XI v STFC - OFFICIAL MATCHDAY THREAD
Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Wednesday, July 13, 2011, 16:46:48
I think Esajas is worth a punt even if it's on a 6 month contract. If he's injured for most of it we just wave him goodbye. If not then we benefit from a very good player at this level. I'm liking the sound of Risser as well. Seems he has a bit about him.

Gary Rose must be reading this forum:

Trialist keeper Paoletti was brought on around the 80th minute

Doesnt look like Cibocchi, the Italian LB, is going to get a run out, doesnt bode well re: a contract

Without a recognised striker playing (if you count Danny De Vito as an attacking midfielder) it sounded like it was a good overall performance.

2 clean sheets and 16 goals so far. You can't grumble with how this tour has gone. 2 strikers needed, get Esajas signed up and get a LB. I think we're good to go then.

Firstly, as we all know, friendlies mean very little (we had a good pre-season last year for a starter) and I also don't want to sound over-excitable.

However, I have to admit that I am a big fan of the clubs approach this pre-season.

I've read plenty of comments from people stating that they felt that we didn't have enough games planned and that the opposition wasn't good enough etc etc

But I think the progressive build-up is the way forward. Why take on bigger opposition at this stage? Especially when the management are rebuilding a squad both literally and in the morale sense for those who survived.

Swindon Supermarine and Cirencester will offer adequate opposition and then we'll have Reading as the season dress rehearsal, we don't need more than that.

We are low on centre fowards but a half-decent forward doesn't need pre-season to get going (sure it's ideal but not an absolute necessity).

Thank you.

TO NEVILE W - maybe I read SONN's just like you but I am not so obsessed to remember her profile name.

Game was a far sterner test than last Saturday. Our defence still need  proper test - Kamakaze dircted well from the back.

Ritchie was possessed in the first half - a real live wire.

But we shall see :hmmm:

I think woefully inadequate is a bit melodramatic but it is a case of wait and see.

Last season we had what people would consider a nice blend of friendlies - Al-Sadd, Karlsruhe, Hereford, Forest and the Non-Leaguers... 7 games, 6 wins and a draw. What did it achieve long term? Nothing.

I want to see a condensed pre-season with the senior squad featuring more regularly.

Despite being content, I still think the club might arrange a behind-closed-doors game.

The town drumming band in Norcia woke everyone from their siestas on Sunday. The Italian/Japanese twinning events included a tea ceremony and martial arts exhibition in the town square which is dominated by the statue of St Benedict.

Competition for places is a good thing.  Keeps players on their toes.  Maybe if Ferry keeps the weight off this season he will get a good run in the team.
