You would hope that in a Youtube clip he would at least look lively. It's the minimum requirement 8)

I do like a long throw though. Not something we've used enough when we've had the players who can do it.

Why are we so shit at throw ins?

It's a very valid and infuriating point which I think every town fan will knowingly nod at.

I thought it was just me going mental in the stands about us wasting possession from throw ins all the time.

I don't really recall us being bad at throw ins pre Malpas.

We got really shit at it about the same time we started doing really poncy coreographed moves at corners - remember the "Let's all stand in a line like we are waiting for assembly st school", or the "Let's all run away from the goal to the 18 yard line and then turn and run back again" Did any of those ever work??

Wasn't that a King masterclass, signalled by how many hands he held up from the dugout. Glory days.

I recall us being shit at throw ins under King as well. He also had The Andy King Kick-off as well, which involved kicking off and then trying to put the ball out for a throw in as close to the corner flag as possible.

I'm not sure what the idea was, but no one this side of Alan O'Brien stood a chance of getting with 30 yards of the ball.

We liked the king kick off, we had bets on which advertising board the ball would hit. Crazy I know.

I also don't like the defensive corner routine that was particularly  practised under Sturrock. Basically it was 11 men in the box. Which admittedly probably did stop us conceding direct from the corner, only to clear to, oh wait THERE IS NOBODY THERE.

We kept the defensive corner thing going under the Wilson era as well - oddly it wasn't until Hart came in that we started leaving someone up.

I recall, with a particular shudder away, at Cheltnum when we lost 0-2...they even managed to go down to 10.  We had 20 corners....don't think any of them led to us having a shot or header on goal......just aim the thing for Sean Morrison's head.

Was that when Parkin was sent off for sliding into the keeper? The ref came running over, slid himself, and did a 2 footed challenge on Parkin. Once Parkin had received treatment from the ref's vicious attack, he was sent off.

Nah, I think that was a night match, the one where Gurney and Heywood had a set to with some of our fans.

I think the one Reg is on about was a sunny Saturday.

I was at the 2008 edition, I seem to remember Yinka Casal looking like a passable player that day, so clearly it was an odd one all round.

Was there that night in 2002,not a nice memory,a shit night at Cheltenham that was.

I have to admit I thought they were only a couple of years apart. That said I remember driving home Basingstoke after the 2002 game and throwing my shirt in the bin. So had I thought about it, it would have to be at least 8 years ago (my eldest is 7 next month and he wasn't around)

I only saw Casal vs. QPR in the League Cup. I remember squirming at his positional play, this says a lot because I'm not tactically observant in any way :)

Even in the trial games Casal looked dodgy positionally. But he did look quite athletic/quick so I thought once he'd adjusted to the pace of the game he'd be OK. Oh how wrong I was.

Casal was never given a fair chance. I for one thought he was an excellent player.

But you think Fola Onibuje was good.

Fola Onibuje was a genius for his unpredictability. My mate's a Lincoln fan and said he was our best player when we played them at home! Says a lot about how we played that day.

He was a strange one. Fast as fuck, tall as fuck and completely and utterly useless as a target man. He was some how able to jump, but be lower than when he was standing. It was like he was ducking while airborne.

He was absolute comedy to watch. Fucking awful player though.

I liked Onibuje, its not to say he was much cop, but every now and then he did something useful. e.g. I think it was Accrington where he broke down the wing and crossed it in for Peak's equaliser. Plus the Fola OnionBhaji song used to wind STFC Gazza up.

His fifty pence piece-shaped feet were ace, no idea who it was against but I remember being sat in the Arkells, we were shooting towards the town end. Fola got the ball around about the half way line, showed some really good touch and pace to skin the other teams left back, Fola ran it to the sideline under little pressure and promptly ran out of play for a throw to them. That was ace.
