Title: Question Post by: Bogus Dave on Friday, July 1, 2011, 17:58:44 My internet is really fucking slow. I just went on google, and it auto-detected my location as new milton, some 90-odd miles away from where I actually am. I'm assuming this has something to do with the IP address? Is this likely to be linked to my super-slow web speeds, and what can be done to rectify this situaiton??
Title: Re: Question Post by: slinky on Friday, July 1, 2011, 18:03:07 I would start by rebooting your router (and modem if with Virgin) and see how it after that.
Title: Re: Question Post by: Batch on Friday, July 1, 2011, 18:40:42 It is IP address based. It won't be the reason for your slow internet.

Its why you get those dating banner adverts advertising girls in Beccles and Staines etc. Title: Re: Question Post by: Bogus Dave on Friday, July 1, 2011, 18:58:07 Fair enough. Cheers guyz
Title: Re: Question Post by: magicroundabout on Friday, July 1, 2011, 19:25:13 who are you with and what are you supposed to be getting.
for starters put your number into here and come back with results http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search Title: Re: Question Post by: Peter Venkman on Saturday, July 2, 2011, 08:31:43 Is the Internet only slow at certain times of day, e.g. after 4pm and before midnight, at weekends etc?
Do you download a fair amount as you may have hit your fair usage policy which will also slow you down at peak times.....stated above, some ISP's are slower than others, is this a new speed problem or has it been around for a while with you? Title: Re: Question Post by: Samdy Gray on Saturday, July 2, 2011, 08:36:26 You live in Haydon Wick don't you? If so, you'll be on the Blunsdon exchange which is ridiculously congested.

With BT I think, though not sure about what limits we've got as I don't organise it. Could be something to do with the exchange though. Funnily enough the internet picked up immeasurably about an hour after posting that last night. Back to shit again now though. Ho-hum. Sounds like heavy demand at the exchange then, but still I am with BT here and get 12-14mb all day every day only every occassionally dropping to 6mb at real heavy usage times, worth reporting if it carries on, thats unnaceptible. Title: Re: Question Post by: Arriba on Saturday, July 2, 2011, 13:02:07 Sorry to hijack but i have a internet question so will stick it in here.
with it's wireless connection my daughters laptop often changes between from being connected fine to aquiring network address and not being connected. i have to restart it to stop it. this happens daily, any ideas how to end this? Title: Re: Question Post by: Samdy Gray on Saturday, July 2, 2011, 13:03:32 Could try updating the driver, or the network card might be on it's way out.
Title: Re: Question Post by: Arriba on Saturday, July 2, 2011, 13:04:33 Idiots guide please
Title: Re: Question Post by: Samdy Gray on Saturday, July 2, 2011, 13:10:44 Start > Run > Type devmgmt.msc > OK
Under Network adaptors, right click the wireless adaptor and select Update driver. Title: Re: Question Post by: Peter Venkman on Saturday, July 2, 2011, 13:14:11 If that doesnt work then uninstall the wireless driver reboot the lappy and reinstall the wireless driver (it could well install itself automatically anyway upon reboot)
Title: Re: Question Post by: Arriba on Saturday, July 2, 2011, 13:17:05 no wireless adapter option.
network adapters, pcmcia adapters, are the only ones. I'm guessing the network one is right? edit scrub that. found it |
