Hoddle still open to academy link

PLAYERS from the Glenn Hoddle Academy could still be heading to Swindon next season after the former England boss confirmed he has held talks with the club.

Can't do any harm can it?

Can't see any harm in giving a few of them trials, as long as they're not interfering in the actual running of the club it looks like a win/win to me.

No thanks. A few clubs have had players from his academy and apparently they've been shite.

We shouldn't dismiss such links but I do believe that we need to focus on developing our current youth system.

Also, we can't go into the new season with 3 or 4 players who 'might' be ready for the first team, sort of like Flint, Misun and Pavett were last year.

We need immediate options.

Think I agree with you ISOB....these lads fall out of club systems because they've got it too easy, and although might have a some ability don't have the mental toughness needed to make a decent pro.

Swanning about in Spain is hardly likely to help in this department, unless of course they'd done it for themselves.

Much better to go down the Austin route of playing some non league football, showing what you can do and get picked up that way.

All we're talking about is 'opening a link' FFS...I don't suppose any great commitment would be required. What's the problem ::)

If it costs nothing and raises the clubs profile, I can't see a negative. As long as PdC has the veto in who plays and who doesn't, where's the negative?
And you never know, we may get lucky with one or two of them.

You might get a good player out of it is the point. Which I would have thought was pretty obvious. Keep all your options open. Never say never and all that. Come on Reg, get a grip son 8)

That's the thing isn't it? What would the extent of the 'link' be? To my mind it would be just having a look at a few players in trial games. I say again, what fucking harm can it do?

*Bump*

Talking to a friend involved at Hyde FC in passing at the weekend and until then I didn't realise that the Glenn Hoddle Academy was now involved with Hyde FC.

Hyde FC have the pick of the Hoddle Academy players, I am not sure how many of the Academy players are currently playing for Hyde but they are doing well, currently top of the Conference North on 71 points (8 points clear).

Hyde also have a link with Man City.

I know City use their ground for reserve fixtures and also changed their strip from Red to Blue, replaced the red in their crest with blue and got them to drop the 'United' from their name. A bit petty don't you think, or is it just fantastic re-modelling and streamlining maximum business marketing strategies?

The first one.  Astoundingly petty, in fact.

No different to anything Ferguson would of done though.
