Seeing that everything is a bit dull at the mo lets reminisce with your favourite things and reasons why :

1.   Favourite  Goal
2.   Favourite game (other than Wembley)
3.   Favourite player of all time

Mine are :

1. Craig Maskell at Wembley - its the "ding" the ball makes off the post and the the cheer that follows
2. Has to be the 5-3 victory over Sunderland after they came down from having OUR place in Div 1.
3. Alan Mac - want to say Shearer, Bamber, Jan but to me Alan Mac in that season was simple amazing - 18 goals from midfield speaks for itself.

Not really sure why I support Swindon.

1. Charlie Henry's volley against Gillingham in the 87 play offs to get us back on level terms, puts the hairs up on the back of my neck watching it even now.

2. Birmingham A 6-4 1993, nothing has ever matched that from despair to delirium (although the play off final in 93 had my nerves all over the place)

3. David Kerslake, especially in the 89-90 season. He put some excellent crosses over that year, always got forward and took people on.

1) Duncan Shearer at Watford (think it was his first league goal for the Town). I bought the video from Watford for that goal.

2) Arsenal at home in the League cup in 1979.

3) The Don, nobody will ever come close. Even Andy Rowland, whose winner in the game above was almost #1

1. Danny Invincibiles last minute goal which kept us up, just for the pure joy
2. 6-4 Birmingham, amazing game we almost left at 4-1
3. Duncan Shearer (I was 7 when my dad came home and said we had sold him and i cried my eyes out)

Favourite goal - was Rory Fallon's volley against Bristol City - it was class and it was against scum!

Favourite game has to be the 4-3 play off final win over Leicester - a dream fulfilled.

Favourite player - there have been many over the years - but Colin Calderwood was without doubt the best buy we ever made and a top class captain.

Last seasons semi at The Valley - what needs to be said about THAT night?

Simon Cox - the perfect example to all kids on what a footballer should be like on and off the pitch.

Too many to mention, on any given day it can change....today i'm in a Shaun Taylor kind of mood

Bodin vs Leicester at Wembley has got to be one of the best feelings ever as a town fan

Not sure on the best game, possibly Leeds in the Carling cup when Robinson scored in the last minute.  Other than that beating Oxford in any game feels pretty good.

David Kerslake for me, loved watching him in the Shrivenham road stand

Way, way too many to choose from but these spring to mind.

Bodin penalty at home to Pompey in 93 stands out. Last few minutes, we really needed the win to stay in touch with the playoff places and it was the first pen Bodin had taken since his miss that effectively knocked Wales out the WC qualifiers. Fuck me did we go mental in the Stratton Bank.

Favourite game is probably Charlton away in the playoffs. I've seen better games but nothing beats that night for sheer nail biting excitement.

The legend that is Chalkie White. Not that gifted a player but just love him. We always got 100% from Chalky.

Mickey Hazard - he joined just as I started watching Town and was my first real hero. Fucking class in his day.

Grant Smith at Bradford in 2005. A great team move, one touch football and an excellent finish.

Wycombe away in 2002. We were second from bottom. Took the lead with a Jimmy Davis (RIP) goal, played really well but end up trailing 2-1 then we then equalise with about 8 minutes left and then last kick of the game Parkin gets the winner. I've been to better games but the feeling when that winner went in was indescribable. Celebrating that goal will live with me forever. Got absolutely soaked aswell.

Glenn Hoddle and Paul Bodin from the old guard. Sam Parkin and Simon Cox recently. Cox is a nice fella aswell.

ross maclaren vs bolton in the league cup.not the greatest goal i've seen although it was a piledriver.
it broke the deadlock in games that had gone on and on and saw us through.great atmosphere that night at the county ground too.

stoke away 1990..again,not the best game i've ever seen,but it was the day our play off place was confirmed and the atmosphere was unbelievable

3) Never saw Don Rogers play a competitive game so it has to be Glenn Hoddle for me, utter class.

1.  Hoddle's screamer in the opening game of the 1992/93 season at home to Sunderland.  Only goal of the game.  I remember not being able to breathe for several seconds after it went in.  He seemed to have an age on the ball before taking the shot.  (Watch the build up from about 35 seconds in clip below.)

2.  QPR 1-3 Swindon.  Our only ever top flight win away from home.  Anyone who was there that day for the 'relegation wake' will never forget it.

3.  John Moncur.  Midfielder who truly deserves the 'maestro' tag.  Distribution was superb.  (We were spoiled to have him and Hoddle in the same side.)  Could slow a game down and dictate the pace with ease.

If I'm honest, I hate the fact that all my best memories come from the first 5 years that I was watching.

1. For individual skill, Coxy against Walsall. Best team goal was Hoddle's goal against Leicester on the 93 play-off final, as it starts off with Fraser, and Hoddle sidefoots it in after a patient build up with no Leicester player getting a touch. If Brazil scored a goal like that MotD would be raving about it for years.

2. I'll go for the 'revenge' match against Sunderlan when we won 5-3. There were some absolute belters scored that day. Got to mention the games against Bolton in the League Cup as well.

3. Ooh Shaun Taylor. Might not have been the most gifted, but no-one gave more than Shaun.

Goal: Same as the first post. Craig Maskell's at Wembley in '93. The noise that post made. BANG!

Game: Swindon Town 2-2 Newcastle United, my 10th birthday. 2-0 down at half-time and then two goals in a minute from Ling and Andy Mutch. Brilliant.

Player: Shaun Taylor.

2) Swindon 2 - 2 Man U in the 93/4 premier league season. What a game...It had everything: Cantona sending off, Hughes getting lamped in Shrivvy Road, Nijholt's 50 fouls on Keane throughout the game, Buzzer nutmegging Giggs, Sanchez nearly winning it for us at the death...Christ knows how we drew with Man U with the likes of Frank McAvvenie and Brian Kilkline playing!

1) Swindon - Cox vs Walsall (best i've ever seen live) but I always loved Ginolas goal against Ferencváros as my favourite TV goal

2) Leeds away in League cup that we lost on Penalties. The most entertaining game i've ever seen - it had everything

3) Odd choice, but Mark Walters. My idol when watching town as a kid...the fact the same dummy fooled every defender.

My favourite goal is also Madge Mitchell's.  Lovely build up, great diving header.

Yep, probably the best atmosphere i've experienced from Town fans, great day. Blackburn away in the PO's of the same season was just as great. I feel sorry for the young'ns who'll never experience those days. Big terreaces under a tin or aspestos roof just going mental and making such noise it makes your ears ring. 

Goal:  Yea Cox v Walsall; but really the best was back in the late 60s, Wales v...can't remember, but probably a home international, a header by Ron Davies - I have rarely seen a ball hit with such power even as a shot, but as a header....amazing.

Match:  Has to be the play-off final v Leicester, which I only saw on TV, but always remember Jimmy Greaves saying 'Forget the Cup Final (which as usual had been a bore), give me this game any time any place....'. Even as a nearly 40 year old nearly grown-up, I felt so proud of the team....

Player:  Really hard.... I loved the whole 68/69 team - heroes every one.  Sir Don, of course....but Downsborough, Thomas, Trollope, Butler, Harland, Noble....  But apart from them, Nicky Summerbee, John Moncur, Hoddle, Alan Mac, and I know what Swindonbob means about Walters.....there are so many, and I guess Coxy comes in there somewhere, even in the short time he was there....so many....I must be a romantic.

Glenn Hoddle for me

1. Invincible v Peterborough, i might have given it to a screamer by Andy Nicholas at Exeter in the JPT a few seasons back but it was a pointless game

2. Port Vale away, 3-3 a few years back.  Down 3-0 and then scored 3 times in final 10 mins, i love a good comeback.

3. Peter Thorne, cant really explain.

Goal - has to be the Charlie Henry equaliser in front of the Stratton Bank (where I was stood) against Gillingscum in the play off

Game - Gotta be Brum away 6-4 - wanted to leave at 4-1 down with 25 minutes left, but Hoddle was amazing in the last 25 minutes

Player - there are SO many, but for sheer guts and determination I am going for Ooh Shaun Taylor !!

Goal - Maybe someone can help me out, but I'm sure I saw Calderwood score from his own half. Can't remember who it was against and can't remember the year, but I do remember the celebrations in The Town End!

Game - Either Blackburn away in the Playoff semi, or Dirty Leeds away (Is there a fire drill!).

Player - Loads, Kerslake, Foley, Ling, McCloughlin, Moncur, Gittens, Chalky, too many....

Its funny isn't it that out of all the hundreds of games and goals we have seen over the years there are only a hand full of fave goals & games listed.

Fav goal Tv: Shearer v West Brom at Hawthornes.

Match: v Charlton playoff semi last season. I missed the Leicester Wembley visit, only saw it on TV :(

Fav Player I've seen: Too many. Shearer as striker. Digby keeper. Horlock and Nijholt midfielder. OST defender.

What a finish from Dunc!

It hurts remembering how good we once were and how utterly dogshite we are now.

I watch the Wembley 1993 play off video once in a while - and know what you mean.  It's difficult to believe just how good we used to be.

shearer scored many a great goal,my fav was away at west brom. hoof from digby, then smashed at waist hight from dunc from around 40 yards out.boom!

It's a lot easier when you don't remember us ever being any good.

Have we been good?

I watched it a few weeks ago - the team is immense and the way we played was 100 times better than the shit served up recently. To be honest I think that there were a few players who we had sold in the preceeding years who would have made it even better - Dunc, Alan Mac, Kerslake...

Even the 90/91 team was superb - the above including Foley, Gittens (admitedly a liability)

Best game watching us stuff Fulham 5-0 years ago. The fulham team was stuffed ful of stars (Moore, Best, Marsh etc)

I remember that one well.  It was out practically on the byline as well.  we had a great team around then. 

My choices would probably be Hoddles against Sunderland, best game probably one of the playoff finals for sheer joy or maybe in that promotion season beating the geordies 2 - 1 so you could see keegans whinging disappointed face.  Best players a tie between little Mickey 'turn around in circle' hazard and the class of Glenda.   

I'm suprised that Foley's vs Blackburn away didn't get mentioned.

JAF's goal against Millwall wasn't bad either. Mick McCarthy would agree with that !!!

I think my favourite game was probably that 1-0 away win at Charlton to end their amazing run back in 99/00. I'd seen the midweek Huddersfield win the Tuesday night before to stop us going 20 games without a win, we always beat Huddersfield mid-week, but the Charlton game was so unexpected it was magic.

Talia's performance wasn't a brilliantly controlled or cultured keeping effort by a long way, but I've never seen a keeper string together a clean sheet from 90 continuous minutes of last ditch saves in such an insane way. I doubt I ever will.
