Title: Own Goals and Gaffes Post by: TownEnders.com on Sunday, May 15, 2011, 10:59:04 As it's been a complete cock-up of a season, I thought over the summer I may put together our very own "Own Goals and Gaffes" video, in the same style as the "Best Goals Ever" clips I've put on YouTube.
So.... as the own goals are pretty easy to find, I need help in putting together a list of the other balls-ups in STFC matches over the years, both by Town players and the opposition - goalkeeper howlers, defensive errors, missed open goals and the like - the start of my list is below.... do any of you have any additions to the list? 15/03/1969 IAN URE ARSENAL 18/05/1982 RUSSELL LEWIS NEWPORT 03/03/1984 DAI DAVIES TRANMERE 18/03/1984 STUART NAYLOR? Too obvious? Title: Re: Own Goals and Gaffes Post by: melksham_exile on Sunday, May 15, 2011, 11:30:31 the Alan Reeves own goal against Peterborough United, in the same game that a certain Mr Invincible scored a worldy to keep us up..............queue pitch invasion!!!!!
Title: Re: Own Goals and Gaffes Post by: Costanza on Sunday, May 15, 2011, 11:48:51 I'd stick Kevin Amankwaah's cruelly disallowed own goal against Millwall in. What a finish, clinical.
Title: Re: Own Goals and Gaffes Post by: JanAageisGod on Sunday, May 15, 2011, 14:36:24 I can remember a full length diving header og by David Holdsworth to our benefit when he was at Sheff Utd - 01/02/97 - it's full length in my mind anyway.
Title: Re: Own Goals and Gaffes Post by: Lumps on Sunday, May 15, 2011, 14:45:13 There must be 2 or 3 open goals missed by JAF in the early part of the Prem season, including the incident when he managed to prevent an otherwise certain goal by Scott (I think) by somehow getting something on it on the line.
Title: Re: Own Goals and Gaffes Post by: Summerof69 on Sunday, May 15, 2011, 14:46:30 I can remember a game at home to Huddersfield a couple of seasons ago when Coxy had a penalty saved at the Stratton Bank end. The keeper booted it forward, and it should've been a simple header by Amankwaah to clear it. He totally missed it and the oncoming Huddersfield forward smacked it in to the back of the net.
Title: Re: Own Goals and Gaffes Post by: alanmayes on Sunday, May 15, 2011, 14:49:30 Goal 12 Town vs Ipswich at the CG 89/90 Mick Stockwell (Ipswich) with a classic og.

Can't believe it - Chalkie would never have missed a sitter. Title: Re: Own Goals and Gaffes Post by: LucienSanchez on Sunday, May 15, 2011, 15:37:02 Richard Dryden's own goal off his arse on debut at the Town End...

Title: Re: Own Goals and Gaffes Post by: Dr Pierre Chang on Sunday, May 15, 2011, 18:07:27 Tom Heaton at home to Port Vale 05/06.
Title: Re: Own Goals and Gaffes Post by: blinkpip on Sunday, May 15, 2011, 18:09:08 What about Williams is it, a Town youngster decided to do some fancy stuff in our goal area against Ipswich live on TV.

I like the way you refuse to afford capital letters in your list to the filthy franchise. Nice touch. Title: Re: Own Goals and Gaffes Post by: Summerof69 on Sunday, May 15, 2011, 18:29:17 I remember us beating Nottm Forest 2-1 at home courtesy of 2 own goals a few seasons back.
Title: Re: Own Goals and Gaffes Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Sunday, May 15, 2011, 18:35:48 29/11/1992 NICKY HAMMOND PETERBOROUGH That makes me fucking seethe to this day. Useless twat. He did a very similar thing v Torquay in the League Cup the same season. What about that Bristol City bloke in 04/05? the 1-1 game at our place. Rory scored that unbelieveable overhead effort to equalise and then he missed a sitter in the last minute - Lee Miller I think? Title: Re: Own Goals and Gaffes Post by: No Longer Posh Red on Sunday, May 15, 2011, 19:17:40 Funniest Bristol City Gaffe was Gordon Owen missing a penalty.
it was in the first season of the play-offs at their place, on the last day of the season & the Shitheads needed to win to make the play-offs (we were already in). At 1-1, Joe Jordan threw himself to the ground (no surprise there then) in our box & won a penalty. Owen grabbed the ball of some other twat, took the penalty & missed. City missed out on the play-offs, and we got promoted. Great Day, and the natives were far from happy at the end & tried to force their way into our terrace. Oh how I miss the good old days of football :D Title: Re: Own Goals and Gaffes Post by: Batch on Sunday, May 15, 2011, 19:22:20 I like the way you refuse to afford capital letters in your list to the filthy franchise. Oh how I miss the good old days of football :D The only time I left a game early. As soon as they missed the pen, I knew what was going to happen at the final whistle. Of course, a few weeks later Owen completed a 'double' by missing in a penalty shootout as Shitty lost in the FRT. Title: Re: Own Goals and Gaffes Post by: TownEnders.com on Sunday, May 15, 2011, 19:49:37 Thanks all. Have added all of these suggestions to the list.... keep 'em coming!

Oh how I miss the good old days of football :D I remember that game very well. All hell broke loose afterwards, especially in the park over the road from the away end. A mate of mine, who was a copper on duty that day, said that for 20 mins or so the police totally lost control. It certainly seemed that way! Title: Re: Own Goals and Gaffes Post by: chalkies_shorts on Sunday, May 15, 2011, 22:11:14 Great Day, and the natives were far from happy at the end & tried to force their way into our terrace. Oh how I miss the good old days of football :D They tried to get on to the terrace but failed miserably after Town fans were climbing up the fence to get at them. Afterwards, however, it was fucking evil. We had a really good mob there but it was like a children's tea party compared to what the fuck was waiting for us.Title: Re: Own Goals and Gaffes Post by: Bewster on Monday, May 16, 2011, 07:41:46 Nicky Hammond vs Ipswich away (cup match) when we were in the Prem and JAF scored his first for us.

Title: Re: Own Goals and Gaffes Post by: blah blah on Monday, May 16, 2011, 08:56:18 wasn't there another Cuthbert one earlier this season (or it may have been last) when Lucas rolled the ball out to him, it hit the back of his leg and fell perfectly for their striker to score ?
I'm sure there must have been more involving the quality defenders we had a few years back - Elkins, Darras, Dryden etc, buggered if I can remember them though Title: Re: Own Goals and Gaffes Post by: Arriba on Monday, May 16, 2011, 09:03:15 ricky shakes one on one vs walsall.

Title: Re: Own Goals and Gaffes Post by: Jean-Francois is God on Monday, May 16, 2011, 10:01:43 Simon Ferry's right footed howitzer of a volley from 2 yards at Charlton last season in the Play-Off's. Phil Smith had no chance of stopping it.
Title: Re: Own Goals and Gaffes Post by: Dozno9 on Monday, May 16, 2011, 13:12:12 The fat bloke we had from Southampton on loan (defender IIRC)in the 1990's who from a corner at the town end neatly headed it in.
Title: Re: Own Goals and Gaffes Post by: donkey on Monday, May 16, 2011, 14:56:18 Nicky hammond full stop Swindon 1 - 0 Barnsley (1992). Best goalkeeping display ever. One Nicky Hammond. He was awesome that day. Back on topic, there was that goal Fjortoft scored after diving in the penaly area, not getting a pen, so he gets up and scores. From memory the first half of 1994/5 season, but I could be wrong.
