Title: Man City Post by: Ardiles on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 16:23:37 Many congratulations on your purchase of the FA Cup.
Title: Re: Man City Post by: Nick Bamosomi on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 16:25:20 Many congratulations on your purchase of the FA Cup. Before I read your post properly and just saw the many congratulations bit, I was going to say something similar. It's amazing what you can buy these days with enough money. How many millions was it? Title: Re: Man City Post by: Arriba on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 16:30:25 champions league next year and the fa cup in the bag. toy money to the owner so money well spent
Title: Re: Man City Post by: Costanza on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 16:32:14 They deserved it on the day and had to put out the best team in England. Do we need to get cynical about everything? It's modern football, it costs money to win things.
If it wasn't for money then Stoke City wouldn't have got to the Premier League and have been able to build a squad capable of an F.A. Cup final. If a billionaire wants to throw money at Swindon Town then they'd be most welcome. Title: Re: Man City Post by: Coca Fola on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 16:33:00 There's only one thing that annoyed me about the final. Guess what it is!
Title: Re: Man City Post by: Bogus Dave on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 16:33:21 What Costanza said.
Title: Re: Man City Post by: Costanza on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 16:33:29 There's only one thing that annoyed me about the final. Guess what it is! Fola Onibuje didn't play? Title: Re: Man City Post by: flammableBen on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 16:37:09 Unimportant warm up before Doctor Who and the Eurovision Song Contest.
Title: Re: Man City Post by: alanmayes on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 16:37:43 Give the City fans a break, they've had a lot to put up with in the last 35yrs.I've always found
their fans a decent lot, especially when we played them in what is now the Championship in the late 80's. When they went down as low as L1 they embraced it and had a positive attitude to enjoy it,unlike the likes of Leeds,Nottingham Forest and a few others. Title: Re: Man City Post by: Coca Fola on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 16:41:51 Fola Onibuje didn't play? :DTitle: Re: Man City Post by: Ardiles on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 16:42:19 If a billionaire wants to throw money at Swindon Town then they'd be most welcome. That's the thing...if that happened, I think I'd have to up & leave. I know I'm in a minority but, for me, it all becomes pointless if you can skew the competition by chucking money at a side. Grey area, I know. It's a question of degrees, but it's the extreme cases that offend me. Man City should not have won this year's Cup, and Wigan and Fulham should not be in the Prem. I know it's cynical, but I'm not trying to be for the sake of it. Title: Re: Man City Post by: Arriba on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 16:43:55 every league club throws money at players.all to differing levels, but they all do it nonetheless
Title: Re: Man City Post by: No Longer Posh Red on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 16:44:30 The irony is that Man Utd won the League Championship on the same day, to outfo their blue neighbours.
The last time City won the league championship, a few days later United became the first English team to win the European Cup. No wonder City fans hate them so much :) Title: Re: Man City Post by: Costanza on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 16:46:37 That's the thing...if that happened, I think I'd have to up & leave. I know it's cynical, but I'm not trying to be for the sake of it. I like many aspects of being a supporter a small club. I'd love to see us win something one day though... and I do include the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in this :) Manchester City are a big football club with lots of fans... their achievement doesn't look as ridiculous as when say Wigan and Fulham stormed up the divisions. Title: Re: Man City Post by: Simon Pieman on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 16:47:48 Apart from one anomaly, for the last 15 years the FA cup has been won by teams who spend a lot of money. It's hardly a revelation.
Title: Re: Man City Post by: Costanza on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 16:49:00 Apart from one anomaly, for the last 15 years the FA cup has been won by teams who spend a lot of money. It's hardly a revelation. Yep... and Pompey spent plenty of money too (if that's who you're referring to si) Title: Re: Man City Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 16:50:49 I remember when the FA Cup Final was a really exciting event and you made a whole day out of it, on the piss with your mates.
Today it was just a case of the score coming up on SSN and it was..."Oh look. Man City won the Cup" ..and that was it. A bit sad really. Title: Re: Man City Post by: Costanza on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 16:55:54 I'm a bit of a sucker for the F.A. Cup, I tend to follow it from the start getting a few early Non-League rounds in. Haven't missed watching them since Spurs vs. Forest back in '91.
They're rarely memorable occassions. A few decents showings aside, there's only been one genuinely great final since then, 2006. Title: Re: Man City Post by: Simon Pieman on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 16:58:16 Yep... and Pompey spent plenty of money too (if that's who you're referring to si) Yeah it was who I was alluding to. I think people view things with rose tinted glasses on most of the time. The reason the FA cup has 'lost it's magic' is simply because there is so much football on the telly these days, it's just another game for most of the neutrals. Title: Re: Man City Post by: Bathtime on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 17:06:04 Pleased for Man City fans who by my experience are a fairly likeable lot, especially when compared to the other team in the city. Its a shame that we all hate Manchester City now and were looking forward to a surprise win for Stoke..!
Title: Re: Man City Post by: Ginginho on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 17:23:14 Yeah, they've spent a shit load of money and have a team of unlikeable players, but the fans have always been great, even in our league they filled their ground pretty much and their away support was superb. It's their first trophy in 35 years. It was nice to see that it meant so much to their fans.
Pity for Stoke, would've obviously preferred them to win, but not overly bothered either way to be honest. Title: Re: Man City Post by: Spencer_White on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 17:58:07 The irony is that Man Utd won the League Championship on the same day, to outfo their blue neighbours. No wonder City fans hate them so much :) I think the papers will run with Man City tommorow. So at the pinnacle of all Fergies 25 years at Man Yoo will be overshadowed at least a bit. And Man United wont beat Barcelona in the Champions League final. Times are changing. Although it was sickening to hear Micah Richards talking about splashing the cash for next season immediately after their win. Just enjoy it?! Title: Re: Man City Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 17:59:44 Haven't missed watching them since Spurs vs. Forest back in '91. Pity for Stoke??? Fuck em... They tried to intimidate and lay the boot in (as with all games) and failed....reminded me of Crawley. Huth can rerun the DVD to his grandkids....nice! For the sake of football this was a great result...and Stoke got found out...at last! Title: Re: Man City Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 18:34:06 Stoke are far fron bullies. Hope you got on better than our lot did - gave a good account of themselves playing against sides in higher divisions than them, but didn't manage a win (or a goal). Still they all enjoyed it, which is the main thingTitle: Re: Man City Post by: wiggy on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 19:53:49 Same. Title: Re: Man City Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 20:06:57 I was looking forward to this final as for a change it didn't include Chelsea, Manure or Arsenal. But that was dire. So boring. No wonder people can't be bothered with the FA Cup anymore. Did Stoke even try and win that game? Their tactic was to try and hold out for penalties.
Title: Re: Man City Post by: Costanza on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 20:11:35 It wasn't THAT bad. especially when comparing it to the finals of 1996, 2005 and 2007
Title: Re: Man City Post by: pauld on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 20:18:48 Lost in the final to Shaw. 0-0 at full time and they got a golden goal in extra time. Ha, Devizes? We lost 1-0 to you lot in our first game. Good side.Title: Re: Man City Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 20:21:31 It wasn't THAT bad. especially when comparing it to the finals of 1996, 2005 and 2007 It's not far off them though. 07 was probably the worst i'd seen. There were some cracking finals when it was at Cardiff. Since it's returned to the New Wembley they have been pretty poor. What happened to teams attacking and trying to win? 2006 was a great final between Liverpool and West Ham as both teams attacked and tried to outscore each other. That's what I always thought cup football was supposed to be about. Especially cup finals. Title: Re: Man City Post by: Batch on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 20:21:59 Pah, hark at you both with your finals and winning and losing and shit.
Festival of football, that's where its at :) Nice Swindon Town medals though. We lost 1-0 to you lot in our first game. Good side. Yes, Devizes - it was a mixed team today from A and B teams. Got the Chippenham tournament tomorrow, registration at 8:15. There was a good atmosphere there today - some tournaments get a bit intense with the parents crowding the pitch. I love the tournaments at the end of the season - it is nice to play some different teams. Maybe next year they could use one end as an entrance, t'other as an exit? |
