The least popular boss in 20 years?

PAUL Hart’s brief tenure at the County Ground was one of the most forgettable episodes of the Robins’ recent past.

There has to be at least two or three names there less popular than Hart. I'd say McMahon and Malpas would be fairly universal. Personally I'd add Todd and I think Andy King towards the end (didn't hate him myself).

McMahon is weird for me... I was too young to properly hate him, and we won the league. I hated Quinn more.

Its interesting to see Wilson's win record stack up well. I guess splitting that % into two seasons would tell the story better though.

Hart's press conferences were just a joke, on a par with Malpas, he just spewed up a bunch of frustrating toss.

When I needed confidence, direction and hope all I got was a load of detached, argumentive, vague ramblings, and an annoying insistence that we were playing 4-3-3.

They overlooked Justin Edinburgh's record of being manager for one day - played 0.
Malpas for me.

Has to be McMahon surely? Although Hart deserves special commendation for speed

I've certainly never turned on a manager so quickly.  But McMahon would be least popular for me, then Hart, followed by King, Todd and Malpas.

I agree with this, I couldnt wait for him to leave at the time, but looking back now - he was quite comical in a kinda drunk uncle at a wedding way.

His ramblings about cigars and blaming Barbara for everything in his press conferences used to make me laugh, much better than rowing with Vic Morgan about formations.

Jimmy Quinn never stood a chance under those circumstances.
Steve McMahon was a knobhead.
Maurice Malpas era just wasn't very good.

For me it's Colin Todd all day long.

Quinn did a good job and should never have been sacked. Simmilar season to 1999/2000 this year, and the players reacted so much better to it in 2000 under Quinn.

Todd, McMahon, Malpas, Hart.

When you think about it, its no wonder weve gone backwards so much in the last 15 years.

McMahon and his Scouse sidekick Rikki Hunt for ripping the heart and soul of of the club, the lack of respect and dignity they showed to great club servants like Andy Rowland, John Trollope and also players like Fraser Digby, Shaun Taylor and Paul Bodin. The wedge driven between supporters (Bury away anyone) and the club and McMahon's hatred of any mention of the Hoddle, Ardiles or Macari era.

How the lazy Adver journo come up with Hart being the most unpopular manager just based on a quarter of a season and the fans turning over the last couple of games!

Because he wasn't around during any of the other eras.

We have had more than our fair share of utter shite managers, some for the lack of good players at the club some for the lack of good tactics some for the lack of PR skills some for just being total wank, the list is massive and I could not choose an outright loser but probably my favourite would be Muckmarn but in no particular order how about.....

Muckmarn, Gorman, Beamish, Quinn, Malpas, Todd, King, Mackay, Allen, Onoura & Hart.

I hated McMahon more. Hart didn't do himself any favours with his rather arrogant, non-caring interviews. But McMahon was a complete cunt after the promotion season. Malpas was just clueless, but that was the fault of the board for employing him over the likes of Holloway.

There are some angry comments on Thisis. Is SAPFanSTFC, Andrew Fitton by any chance?

Clive King must be turning in his grave with some of the rubbish that the Adver sports desk can come out with. Crikey, there must be a few sources where they can check their facts or take opinions on rather than read a few comments on thisis...!

Easily Hart.

At least other managers won games and even some league titles in there...

McMahon was weird for me - because I was 10 the year we dominated Div 2 so thought of him as some sort of god. It wasn't until a few years later that I really heard about the protests on the pitch and what a twat he was.
Kingy was funny, but also a bit of a lunatic.

MuMuck for me, but Hart should get a special mention for turning just about the whole fanbase against him is such a short time.

No votes for Roy Evans?Didnt he bring that useless fat blunt "Razor" Ruddock to the club? That's enough to make him the worst in my book.

Not the first time over the past couple of years that the conveyor belt on the Adver sports desk has led to a complete lack of perspective. Seem to remember the "all time greats" piece they ran being pretty embarassing

Evans also left without shafting the club for money...also think he was manager on our last trip to the Madejski....

And we played good football under him, too.  Nowhere near any hated managers list.

McMahon is, in one way amazing.  How can he be so reviled whilst he won us a league title?  Says a lot about the man, I guess.

Dave McKay is the biggest Kunt ever to manage the Town.

McMoan wasn't helped by being associated with Rikki Khunt, but was indeed a knobhead.

Hart deserves a special mention, as he managed to alienate almost the whole fanbase in such a short period

I'd have to say Hart as well, I think the nadir was that interview last week, what a full on bellend he was then.

I look back sheepishly at my King hating by the end of his tenure, in hindsight he wasn't that bad, always engaging in a mental sort of way and the 03/04 playoff team he assembled was genuinely fucking good. Ben Wah Balls was right all along.

King was a fucking enigma. I don't think even he could explain how he assembled a team containing David Duke, Matt Hewlett and Andy Gurney and took them to the play-offs.

Close call between Hart who has become hated very fast because he is just such an arse and Colin Todd for similar reasons. Malpas was just plain useless and a gamble by Fitton which just didnt pay off....
