would it really be that hard for the club to get adidas to knock some of those old school ones up? they'd sell probably better than the current kits.

Yes, unless they were prepared to commit to selling huge quantities up front, virtually guaranteeing they'd make a loss. Same with all the big (and medium) manufacturers. They all have stock designs, even for the "big" clubs e.g. Arsenal and Man Utd have identical goalie shirts this season, just in different colours, as they both chose the same template

Title: Re: New Home Kit 2011/12
Post by: jonny72 on Wednesday, April 27, 2011, 20:57:18
Why can't Adidas just stop fucking around by putting patches and two tone colours in and just make a plain shirt? Not like it would cost them anything design wise and there is always plenty of interest in retro Adidas shirts, they'd sell shit loads of plain ones alone. Plus our 80s Adidas shirt was also used by Man Utd and Forest amongst others.

Would be good if the club could at least make a statement saying "we asked and they told us to fuck off".

Not all other clubs - as I understand it they trickle down the templates, starting in the Prem, then next season Championship, then L1/L2. So we've been a season behind the Slave Traders and Plymouth (before they came down), but usually have the same as (for example) Macclesfield. At least I think that's how it works

EDIT: Apparently it doesn't always work like that necessarily. Just been corrected by someone who knows!

Or indeed ours this season and last, if you take the photo in such a way that you cut off the top of the sock with the stripes on. Which this one does. No conclusions to be drawn there, I'm afraid

Only one of those kits was nice though, I think. I remember a few dodgy ones.

Although I think even Ricky Coont was on board for having a kit for more than one season.

I know it's standard now, especially as we are balancing loads of sponsors, but kits should last two seasons.

We have the half blue and half black with castrol as sponsors when we won Divvy 2 under McMahon so 96 to 98.

Then we have blue and black stripes with Nationwide as the sponsor. Must have been 98 to 00. Think we then hasd a few dark blue ones (DGI poss?)after that and its been either blue or white since apart from the mustard and black stripe kit from 03.

All kits used to last 2 seasons back in the day.

96 also was the year we had the ace mint green 3rd kit

The sponsors are Samsung on the front, Fifa 12 on the back and 442 on the back of the shorts.

The board have done well to keep all of them on board this season.

Indeed. We'll have the best kit and sponsors in league 2 next season if nothing else.

I agree the piping ruins it but from a distance it looks ok so it will be interesting when it's really close up. A plain design would have been far better but having said that it's still better than last seasons.

Like the Kit, plain and simple.

Miss the white shorts of old though.

Doesn't seem to be an old template either which is surprising. Hopefully nobody else will have the same colour and template in the country.

We should IMO still be playing in white shorts, it is the clubs heritage.

Wearing green shirts with navy shorts is a part of our heritage too.

As long as we're playing in red shirts at home, it really doesn't matter that much to me when colour the shorts are!

I've come to the conclusion that while Adidas may be a premium brand, their designers smoke the crack pipe.  Why oh why can't we just have a plain kit.

That said, its still better than last years!

Why oh why can't we just have a plain kit.

If they did that they wouldn't be able to sell new kits each season.

Though maybe they could do something in the middle, two new strips each season (with all the fancy frilly shit) and then the third strip a plain old skool Adidas kit they keep for longer (or permanently). I reckon the classic Adidas kit would look alright with the colours reversed, sure there must have been some teams that played in that before (maybe us?).

For me the white shorts are 1980s style and the red shorts 1990's style. We enjoyed success with both so dont really have a preference.

Having all red used to distinguish us from city who always used to have white shorts, but they wear red shorts as well now. The wankers.

Like the new kit.

I like the new kit. The piping isn't amazing but I wouldn't say it ruins the kit at all. Will be interesting to see it close up.

And as others have said, fair play to the board for keeping all 3 sponsors on board. Now we just have to hope they can bring the same sort of success ON the pitch, starting with promotion in 12 months time!

I don't get why clubs dress the keepr in kit so luminous that they can be seen from orbit.

If a quality striker can see the keeper from distance, he can see where NOT to put the ball.

I suppose it help shit defenders with their back passing however  ::)
