Title: Dossevi leaves the County Ground
Post by: pericarp on Tuesday, April 26, 2011, 08:10:48
by mutual consent. Is Paul Hart actually staying?? Or was this once again an obvious move from Fitton..

I think this would have been an obvious move by anyone

I think thats the lesson to learn.

If some striker we have on trial looks like a world-beater against higher opposition in a pre-season game in July/August let's not get a semi over him this time.

I'm still punching myself in the bollocks after putting an e/w bet on Dossevi finishing top scorer in league one! What a moron.

It's a shame it didn't work for him. It wasn't through lack of effort.

Agreed and I think that's why he got off lightly in the abuse stakes. If someone generally puts in 100% but is shit it's easier to take than other squad members who haven't busted a gut but are clearly better when then put effort in.

He shall be fondly remembered for being shit hot on FM2011 and little else.

My personal highlight will be Bournemouth away when he finally beat the offside trap after 8 months of trying only to fuck up the one on one with Jalal.

I would have put money on him to score that one.....woeful finishing!

And having a good goal disallowed!

Was his deal up in June anyway?

An aging 'big man up front' with zero experience of English lower-league football while proudly boasting a shit strikerate. I, for one, cannot believe it didn't work out!

It's unfair that Dossevi has played in the World Cup Finals and I haven't :)

Yes but it's obvious the club are making a decent effort of trying to get rid of players early to free up some scope for early signings and sort the budget out for L2.

I suspected that he had a clause for a second year if he played so many games as he did seem to be a regular and then disappear.

Or could have just been that he was poor - everybody likes a trier though!

Had a decent pedigree on paper but you have to look at why a player of that age had played so few games at his previous clubs.  Worth a punt at the end of the day and a pity it didn’t work out for him.

Must admit seen fuck all of him play but I’d be interested to know if anyone thought he had genuine potential and perhaps in last season’s side he could have made more of an impact?

BBC reported an option

but I’d be interested to know if anyone thought he had genuine potential and perhaps in last season’s side he could have made more of an impact?

I don't think he would have. I didn't see the Forest friendly, but my first impression was he worked hard but didn't look anything special. Nothing changed my mind.

On paper looked a good player but just didn't work out. He lacked the ability but a least he gave 100% every game.

Couldnt cope with any form of physicality in the game. Did not have a clue in terms of using body strength, totally unsuited to lower league football. Also seemed to have a complete lack of confidence in front of goal.

Thats why he looked decent in a pre season friendly, no one got near him and roughed him up. Some games he looked like a total nervous wreck at the prospect of defenders battering him.

Tell you what though, I think the shift he put in at Bournemouth was the hardest Ive seen a Swindon player bust his lungs for years. He worked so hard. Felt for him that night.

100% headless chicken.  No positional sense whatsoever. I'm sure he can't have played as a striker throughout his career but didn't look any more comfortable when occaisonally played in a deeper role.
I can't imagine why Danny Wilson persisted in playing him even though we had few other options - there must be a good number of lower league striker that we could have signed to replace him!
I didn't see the Forest game but the one good moment that I'll remember of his was the well-taken goal against Colchester early in the season.

Agree with this but you need to add in the fact that he had no understanding of the offside rule.

Like someone else said, I hope we learn from this one. We clearly couldnt believe our luck at apparently finding a real gem when he played so well in the Forest friendly.

I now appreciate what Harry Redknap meant when Anthony McNamee almost single handedly destroyed Spurs in the pre season friendly a couple of years back. After the game he acknowledged McNamee's performance, but pissed on our fireworks by questioning whether he would be capable of repeating the performance, week after week.

I thought he was talking out of his arse at the time, but he was right.

Portsmouth I think it was, but apart from that, spot on.

Poor positional awareness was his main downfall for me.

He ran his bollocks off at Bournemouth...missed a one on one and then had a fine header disallowed for fuck all.
