Title: Swindon Town V Notts County official match day thread
Post by: nochee on Saturday, April 23, 2011, 00:16:23
I'm attending my first game of the year and also my last of the season. I'm hoping as always to see a Swindon victory but I'm not holding my breath.

I would love for us to win 3-0 but it will more than likely be 1-1

COYR ( shouted half heartedly)

0-1. With goal difference the only thing stopping us from being the first club in the FL to be relegated. Now there's a cheery thought.

1-2.

Given I think we are 100% down anyway, I hope our demise comes as quickly as possible. Then we can start clearing out the rubbish ready for next season.

0-3 because most other teams seem to have a bit of fight in them whereas we can't and haven't been bothered for most of the season.

2 0 to Notts County. Key players will talk the talk and fail to walk the walk, same ole same ole.
A dire game that will help to put off supporters for years to come.
Two poor teams in a poor league.
Still their will be some pleasent weather and a couple of pints in the garden of the County.

0-2 and us out of our misery. Opportunity then to put out the kids for the rest of the year.

A convincing win for us today as Hart realises that keeping it tight won't help and sends us out to play free flowing, attacking football.

Or a shockingly dour, uninspiring 0-1 defeat with that Wanker Hughes scoring in stoppage time.

It's going to be the latter isn't it?

This will be either 0-0 or 0-1

A binary result is inevitable.

Sadly, I think 0-1 is much more likely than a 1-0.

PS for those that care, both the football & speedway teams are now bottom of their respective leagues :(

For the first time this season, I'm afraid I just don't care.  We'll win 7-5.  What ever.

I don't care either, in some ways I'd rather we just lose, get the inevitable out of the way and just get this whole miserable season over and done with.

I'd love to think we could pull a 3-0 out of the bag and give ourselves something to be cheerful about before the inevitable happens.

But there's just nothing to suggest that could happen. It'll be dire, and we'll hang on for a point.

Ive had a few good BBQ's lately, because of work and the fact Ive not been to an away game since Southampton I havnt had a good all dayer at football for a while, so looking forward to the pubs today.

Like to see us attack the Town End first half so if we are losing I can piss off.

Genuinely don't care about the result today. I'm going to go to Swindon, enjoy a pint or two in the Merlin, laugh at how bad we are for 90 minutes, then get on with my life without going into a DV-esque wrist-slitting frenzy. It's just not worth it.

Tranmere fan here in peace.  Do the whole league as well as yourselves a huge favour and thrash these cheating scum.  On Tuesday night over 12 thousand people were treated to the worst display of shirt pulling, play acting, time wasting and damn right cheating I have witnessed in over 20 years of going to football.  It was so bad that one of them went down holding his face like he was shot when one of his own team mates brushed against him.  We had over 10 minutes of injury time in the second half due to their antics.  And all the time Martin Allen was dancing around on the touchline waving his arms around like an owl on steroids encouraging this.  Notts County are a disgrace to football as is their so called manager and I`m sorry to tell you this but you are probably in for a similiar display. They cheated their way into this league and now they are cheating to stay in it.

SEND THEM DOWN !!!!!!

Reremnart - it ain't gonig to happen. Anyone who is capable of putting their foot in against us will win. We're also so bloody stupid that our players will give them plenty of free kicks anyway. The only thing I'm looking forward to is giving killer Hughes some stick because onoe of our team will get within 10 yeards of him.

0-2 we lose without even a whimper.

I think we'll win today and the suffering will continue until the last day.

Michael Rose is a cunt and uses txt spk.  He should be winding up people, regardless of what they tweet him.  If he can't hack it, delete his twitter account.  The glamour, the wages, the piss-easy lifestyle - a bit of abuse is part and parcel.  Someone as gash as Michael Rose needs to develop a thicker skin.

I'm hacked off with Swindon, but I can't help holding out hope whilst there's a mathematical chance.  I wouldn't be surprised to see us win today, in a sadistic attempt to prelong the inevitable agony.

Swindon team: Lucas, Caddis, Cuthbert, LFJ, Sheehan, JPM, Douglas, Prutton, Rose, Ritchie, Andrew

Benyon, N'Diaye and Pericard on the bench.

One striker starter, so err in answer to your question Lucien, no!

Presumably Rose is going to play left wing with Sheehan behind.  Can't see the logic in it myself, but Paul Hart is fucking Houdini after all.

Have played half decent in the first half.

Probably should have been in front by more based on the first 25/30 mins.
County have had a couple of decent chances towards the end of the first half, aided partly by our mistakes getting caught on the ball.

Really think our best chance is to try and get another goal, not convinced that we will hang on to a clean sheet.

I know most in here won't like it, but Rose has done alright playing on the left side of midfield.

That's actually the game I've been following today as well.  Rather disappointed though.  (Live in Farnborough.)  Even still, Farnborough have done amazingly well this year.  Play off final losers (to Gloucester) two seasons ago in the Southern Premier.  They then responded to that defeat (STFC take note) positively by walking the division the following year to win promotion to the Conference South.  And this year, they had a decent stab at automatic promotion again.  Proper team spirit.  It's a shame my own club hasn't got the balls that my local club has.

Small world ??? I feel exactly the same about my local club (well not so local since I moved, it's about 30 miles away) but anyway...Braintree in fairness have been top since about the third week of the season and never been out of the top two. At one point they were 11 points ahead then Farnborough went on a storming run, beat Braintree 2-1 and I was convinced a few weeks ago that they'd blown it. But they kept plugging away and they are on the verge of a fantastic achievement. It's going to be very, very tough for them in the Conference next season but they got there. Fair play 8)

I've never felt so deflated after a game of football, being 1-0 up, controlling the game, hitting the bar, then just capitulating at the end and then gifting County a winner. They had two chances and scored them both, just sums up our season.

Just following the takeover -

''Our objective is to turn this into one of the best-run and managed clubs in the country.' Fitton said that he had wanted to run a football club for twenty years before it was fashionable to do so. All he had to do now was to convince his wife of the sanity of his takeover''

Got back about 15 minutes ago but gave myself some time to calm down, take a deep breath and open a beer.

Not happy! We were in total control of that game then Hart decides to make a sub. OK fair enough. Who's coming on? Simon Ferry. Cool. Oh no hang on it's actually Michael Timlin. Erm why? Why change your mind Hart? Maybe you were hoping Timlin would shore up the midfield and guide us through to a 1-0 win? Well it worked. Within a minute it was 1-1. Fantastic. Then a crappy mistake from Rose and Cuthbert seals our fate. Thanks a bunch lads.

We actually started the game well and had chances. Deserved to be winning at HT. Even after that Douglas hit the bar and we had some danger going forward. My question is why change it? OK if Ritchie had a knock then fair enough but why decide you want Ferry on and then change your mind again? Ferry would have been the better option as well. Then when the equaliser went in all belief was lost and it was game over not just for the 90 minutes but for the whole season. I can't believe we didn't close that game out even at 1-0 I still fancied us.

Get Hart out now and put Bodin in charge for the last 3 games and then sort the whole lot out come May. Hart has been nothing but a disaster. 4-5-1 at fucking home and even when it is working well he still fucks it up. I'll give him some benefit and that's the fact he was thrown in at short notice to deal with this shite we call a team but he has made decisions that have baffled me no end. If he's in charge next season i'm asking for an ST refund.

And now for Fitton.....well he took a gamble on Hart but it's clear he didn't win it. In some ways I feel there's not much more he can do. He sacked Wilson (although he did leave it too late IMO) and took a gamble on a new manager. He needs to stop sticking his nose in all the time. Let the manager get on with it and the players for that matter. He also needs to make a good appointment for next season. We can't afford another bit part manager. Make a plan now. Build for the future with a young manager and players that will come good in time or settle for sustainability and shite football with average managers. Or failing both of those put some money into it in the summer and dont sell our best players. Take a gamble. It worked for Brighton. At present I don't feel there is really any vision from this board about what they want to do with the club and where they want it to be. That's dissapointing really.

Well well, if u want a lesson in how to throw 3 points away enter Paul Hart. Clinging on at 1-0 and continuing to play 1 up front. Meanwhilee Martin Allen has had the genius idea of going 3 up front. Hart spends 10 mins deciding whether to bring Ferry on, then make him sit back down in complete kit and bring on Michael fucking Timlin when we're defending a free kick - team suddenly in disarray and Notts County equalise.

Their second was a complete fuck up in defence at which point a small contingent in the Arkells made their way down the front and made their views known to the bench. It all got quite nasty and anyone who still had any sympathy or respect for Hart must surely have lost it now. Both him and Mcparland are complete wankers and I hope Nick Watkins arrived on the scene in time to hear some of the abuse they were giving back. Unprofessional is not the word.

Fitton must take a huge portion of the blame for the mess we are in, he needs to make one correct decision and sack Hart and Mcparland tonight. Money needs to be spent on a manager and a team rebuild. If the cheap option is followed again, we could be staring Blue Square Premier football in the face this time next year. Absolute shambles and thoroughly depressing.

He expected us to compete with the likes of Southampton, Huddersfield and Brighton on a reduced budget in comparison. He even laughed off the challenge of Huddersfield.

Does anyone know why the change to the full backs was made pre-substitutions.  We were looking quite balanced with Sheehan/Rose and Caddis/McGovern and then Hart changed them all around.

I tihnk Ritchie was carrying a knock when he came off.  God knows what was going on with the Ferry stand up/sit down fiasco.  Ferry looked thoroughly jacked off.

What a great afternoon's entertainment. So glad I decided not to take the game seriously today.

First half...
We played really well. Good football, good passing, creativity, and a cracking goal. The crowd got behind the team, and all was well with the world. I couldn't fault any of the players - even Prutton looked impressive winning plenty of headers and putting himself about. Dougie was playing some good passes too and running the midfield.

Second half...
Started ok. Still pressed forward a little and created a few chances. I thought Dougie's strike was in - gutted to see it come off the bar.

Then...
Well, what can you say. I noticed Sheehan at right back, and wondered what was going on. Then Ferry was seemingly playing musical chairs until Hart eventually told him to stay put and brought on Michael Timlin. Out of the 8,000 people in the crowd you would have done well to find one who thought it was a good move. And that person would have been wrong. All downhill from there, a total lack of belief, a total lack of desire, and I for one was actually pleased that fans turned on Paul Hart. His decisions were a joke and ruined any remote chance of survival.

How I would love to be a fly on the wall in Fitton's office right now...

Is anyone still listening for an interview or have they now gone off air?

Does anyone even care what Hart has to say anyway, unless its cheerio?

First half we played well especially early on. The pairing of Sheehan and Rose worked well on the left and gave the team balance. We were good value for the lead and could easily have been further in front.

Hart rightly got a lot of stick for the subs but the problems started at half time with the musical chairs involving Sheehan, Rose, McGovern, and Caddis moving all four of them into positions where they were less effective than they had been in the first half.

County were absolutely awful, they didnt even cheat as much as I was expecting but we still managed to gift them a win. Their first goal was bad enough but the second was absolutely criminal.

Just to complete my day I got pulled over by an unmarked plod on the way in. Well its one way of getting three points, maybe Hart should give it a try!

Perhaps somebody should politely point out that 8,000 people turned up today, and were fully behind the the team and management for a good hour or so until they stood and watched the opposition score twice.

My thought exactly. Hart...Go now and put Bodin in temporary charge, and start looking for a new boss for next season straight away.

That tactical decision at half time was fucking stupid.

Although the substitutions were a catalyst for the capitulation the scene was set earlier in the game.  And no surprise the problem was no different to that which we've seen week in, week out.
We created some good positions in the first half with some menacing balls across the box, but unfortunately no goalscorers a la Cox / Austin to put them away.
Second half saw Andrew increasingly isolated up-front as the tactical genius decided to hang on to the one goal lead.  Playing so deep it was only a matter of time before errors were made that were taken advantage of.  And Hughes showed how a striker should finish - something that we've lacked since Austin went and today was simply the latest chapter of the same story that's been running since the New Year!

Referred repeatedly to the non-replacement of key players from last season.
Didn't try to make any feeble excuses for the poor season nor pretend it was all bad luck.

He did at least sound like he genuinely wanted to stay here - family settled, like the area and club etc.

Besides, what's the penalty for breaking the wage cap - just a transfer embargo isn't it? Can't you just sign shit loads of players in one go and set yourself up for the season before they catch up with it?

post-match interview Douglas said he'd like to stay next season and its up to the Board.

I disagree. He was asked the question "would you still like to be here next season". He was never really going to say that he was fucking off cause there was no way that he was going to play in league 2. As a consequence he answered as above.

What I would have liked him to say "As captain I have to take more of a share of responsibility than anybody else for our league position. If we go down, I want to be the one that brings us back as long as the chairman wants me to stay".

And Hart's interview was a disgrace. In any other business he would have been forced to explain his "policies" to his shareholders/customers rather than hide behind 1 word sarcastic answers.

Has anybody been so reviled in so short a space of time?

Agree his answer wasn't unequivical but he certainly had the opportunity to be more non-commital.
From the Board's perspective then I'm sure the size of his current wages will be a significant factor in the decision of how to deal with any contract extension and maybe we'll end up unable or unwilling to afford his demands.

I think that atomspehere after goal 2 was the worst for many a season, it is just frustration over both this season and Hart's tactics if Fitton was wondering about Hart for next season then he knows not to now, what I suspect has gone on is that Hart has been told he will not get the managers job and he has to decide if he wants to take charge for the rest of the season or leave now and risk more abuse than today's - Bodin as caretaker until a new manager in the next week or so appointed I expect

I'd like to see us take the option up on dougie and then sell him for a fee we'd be mad not to surely but is it the boards decision to make on taking the option I would not have thought so

WTF was Lucas playing anyway hes almost as injury prown as Barry Corr give him the flick at the end of the season. Finally saw today what Prutton is capable of just shame too late. Yeah I was expecting the ref to blow the whistle and say that it crossed the line when it bounced off the bar!

Dead man walking. Having listened to that car crash of an interview, there is no way on earth he's still here Tuesday morning.

I've not said a word against Fitton since he came to the Club but he needs a kick in the bollocks for appointing that twat.

I don't blame Fitton for appointing Hart in the first place as he had a track record of saving clubs in terrible positions in the league, I haven't criticised Fitton either but I do feel he left it too long before replacing Wilson, with whomever it was to be with.

Well heres my 10 penneth and then i will scroll back.

There have been some low moments this season but today took the fucking biscuit!

I predicted a useless draw or a narrow loss and down on Monday, im fucking sick of being right at the moment.

I wore the special T shirt JJ Edmunds and his Missus got me......sorry JJ mate it didnt work.

I arrived into the TE at my usual time of kick off and was pleased with what i saw and heard. The ticket deal seemed to have boosted the numbers, County brought a few down and the whole ground seemed in good voice. Nice.

Checked the texted team sheet, groaned at the usual negative formation took up my position at the back and waited for disaster....it didnt happen.

Whats this??  The team seem up for it!!??   Yes!  At last!

All went well.  County showing why they have slid into the shit offering fuck all and a ref that seemed to give us something and not allow County and Cunty Allen to boss the game.
We toiled and went close a few times but i thought we were the better side....and deserved the goal and if it was meant or not but an overhead kick and finish brilliant....
Whistle went and i checked the stats as i always do......1 shot on goal??....that was about right as Kelvin wasnt having his best game and he was our ONLY forward

I took a piss, ate a pie and then ..............it all went fucking wrong.

Allen must of set a fire under County as they came at us...but we held our own and slowly started to get on top BUT without setting up any clear cut chances.

Douglas hit the bar with a shot that might of killed someone if it had hit the crowd....he aint never going to score and its a massive weakness in his game.

Then County started to get on top and we couldnt hold on to the ball.

I turned to Swindon Maniac and Jutty and said "Hart better make some changes soon or we will concede!"  My view was that Andrew was'nt holding the ball up and we needed to put on another forward to give the midfield more options......it didnt happen..Mr Negative struck again and on came Timlin for Ritchie...why???....i was aghast....and it just got worse when a free kick drifted in....

Now we were on the ropes and cue the Pantomime villan Lee Hughes....Allen brings him on and we all know what happened next....GAME OVER!

My old mate Cuthbert commited an epic failure and gave the ball to Hughes for a one on one. Fair play to Hughes as he had alot to do .......composed himself instead of falling over laughing at Cuthberts total fuck up!.....funny but i didnt see Billy big bollocks Cuthbert have a go at the fans today...i wonder why!?

It all kicked off on the bench, couldnt see that well but it seemed that some older fans were coming down to have a go at the bench and Hart eventually gave some back, Mc Parland grabbed Hart at one stage as he looked as if he was going to confront some fans. Even the Old Bill (was it specials?) showed their face and the bench was surrounded by stewards.....very nasty.

And that was that ......another narrow defeat....and doomed relegation probably on Monday.

I felt anger, frustration and hurt.....what a fuckupfest this season has been.

But it gets worse....i made the mistake of listening to the after match interview...

Hart i now blaming Wilson!!??

Wilson DID fuck things up and was here too long but he has had enough games to get the points we needed end of...

Hart reckons we have improved!!!???  Look at the table you clueless prick...we are below a team that has been deducted 10 points.....10 FFS and recorded one win, one fucking measly win in a match where the stats declare we had one shot on goal.

I wanted to go down with all guns blazing, i wanted to go down with a war cry, i wanted the team to run themselves into the ground, i wanted to scream "We'll never die!"  and "Swindon til i die!" at the top of my voice when the moment came..........im sorry Mr Hart but it has'nt happened. We are slipping under like a wasp in jam (without the sting). Negative formations and substitutions what were you trying to achieve.?....i would of rather been dicked a few times and won some matches by 'going for it' but no....we play it safe and lose every game by a single goal or nab a useless draw.

Cunty Allens post match "All I said when I got here was that we'll have a go. There's no guarantees about getting above lines or below lines but whatever happens this team is going to have a go."
AND HAVE A GO THEY HAVE!!! Unlike us......hats off to the wanker.

I thought Hart would of gone by the time i wrote this...looks like its go now or at the end of the season....go now me old mate....

Mc Parland to take charge and FFS Fitton get somebody in and dont go fucking cheap.

Tonight i am pissed off at the prospect of possibly going to Fleetwood Town next season, no matter how good their fish n chips are!

See you all Monday......the fat lady has cleared her throat.

Love it how everyone has written off Douglas, Cuthbert etc. I think some people would rather go back to the days where we had the likes of Hewlett, Howe, Heywood etc. Laughable. It really is.

The problem this season has be a lack of leadership, an experienced decent central defender and a goalscorer, rather than a bunch of bad footballers.

Are you telling me if we had a decent centre half and a half decent goal scorer we would be bottom? I can't emphasise enough what a solid base does for confidence etc. When a team is difficult to beat with a solid defence, with a leader, talker, organiser, the rest of the team gains confidence from that. Likewise when you have a goalscorer. Players are relaxed going into the games knowing that they're going to score goals.

When a team is going into a game knowing that defensively they're not good enough or go into a game knowing that they're lacking a decent goalscorer, or indeed with this team both, they will already go in with a negative mindset and as soon as they go behind they'll automatically (physiologically) think the game's over. It's not about the players not playing well, Douglas, Prutton, McGovern could all have blinders, Ritchie could create chances and we would still probably go out and get beat because we're lacking in key areas.

The first half was not too bad compared to the previous weeks and we were in complete control ,then as said before at half time Hart fucks about and completely changes the formation WTF. As soon as Hughes came on you just knew what was coming , anyway the only bright point of the day was our kids (Lambourn U8 vs U9) on the pitch at half time they all loved the day along with the 45 mums dads and friends from Lambourn.

This season Douglas and Cuthberts have played no better than those you mentioned. The differecne is those players you mentioned had found their level, we know Cuthbert and Douglas are much better than the shite they have produced this season.

I carried on my trend of not going or even listening and even persuaded a season ticket holder not to bother today. It wasn't hard.

I think my only game of the season might have been our last home win. Do I get a prize?

Fucking cunts.

Fucking, fucking cunts.

I reckon that simply the half-decent goalscorer would have kept us safe.
Earlier in the season we conceded too many but gathered enough points to be lower midtable.
Since Austin went there has been nobody looking capable of scoring and consequently the results have been as they have.
For example, yesterday we created enough in the first half to be at least 3 up with a decent striker.
In so many of the games we've been on top but had nothing up front - that alone would have seen us safe.
Agreed to be challenging like last season we'd have needed the better defender and more consistent performances all around the team.

This is one of the things that utterly baffles me about the 4-5-1 oh no its not, oh yes it is. We've got that half decent goal scorer in Benyon, but in order for him to convert the chances we've been creating he does actually need to be on the pitch. For more than a 5-min cameo when we've already lost
