He turned up at training today (pics on the official site) but I'm not sure if a deal has been signed for anything..

he's having a laugh aint he! i'm surprised king has allowed him this long to make his mind up. seems he will probably stay now he knows we've got some good players coming in. bastard!

he better put more effort in than last season if he wants to stay!

Usually I'm of the opinion of 'better the devil you know' but in this situation I think we could benefit more from someone new coming in and giving it his all, rather than Igoe playing out another year.

Looks like we have to pay Igoe until Aug 1.  Day's story puts it into context a bit.  I know we slag them off for being over paid nancy boys but they do have a Mrs to nag them as well.

Looking at that. Chris Day would be a great number 2 goalkeeper for us.

But good enough to be a first choice at a Championship club too.

But he hasn't found a club yet, and he is a bit worried. He can get a lift with Thorpe and Cureton.

I bloody hope not and King should rip his contract up now. He's nothing but a greedy little twat who's used this club. He would of signed for Brentford but they dumped him so now he's using us and has been quoted as saying "i may just have to bite the bullet at Swindon" etc. basically saying it looks like Swindon is all that's left. Personally i will boo him, he didn't come out to clap the fans at the end of the season either despite the fact we had stuck beside him even though he continued to give us his shitty preformances.

Get tae fuck Igoe!

according to the official site it looks like duke might be staying now aswell!

Quote
The key thing is though if both of those players did re-sign there would be nothing else left in the budget for further signings, apart from the loans.

personally i would prefer it if they both went and king used the money to bring new players in with a bit more desire, even if they are young & inexperienced lloyd opara types.

so that gives left backs:- nicolas, duke and smith? Ridiculas.

Yes, Lloyd "the Legend" Opara wanted it so much he couldnt be fucked to Drive from london every day. A few more with real fire in the belly like that please! :|

After reading that, i hope Igoe goes now. Replace him with someone strong and dependable. Duke would represent better value for money, his versitility would be valuable with the transfer window closing and all that. Having said that Jack Smith can play lefe and right back so maybe theres no point in keeping duke either.

duke can fuck off. infact, both can. we need players who want to play for this club, not players who use this club as a last resort

ok opara is a shit example, but you know what i mean, just some young players who might come in & try to make a name for themselves, like parkin when he first came here.

i would rather see more signings like shakes & comyn-platt than keep igoe & duke.

I don't know why Duke was even offered a contract.  The board have the nerve to offer him a two year contract when they don't even offer turbo a new contract.

Title: Igoe staying then...?
Post by: blinkpip on Monday, July 4, 2005, 15:41:35
Come on Turbo was shite.

Title: Igoe staying then...?
Post by: Kinky Tom on Monday, July 4, 2005, 15:42:03
Because Duke is a better footballer than Turbo - simple as that.

That's not a dig at Robbo by any means either - he was as committed a player as I've seen, he just wasn't really good enough, which is a shame, as he's a good egg.

Duke is a different kettle of fish - OK sometimes he makes mistakes, but most of the time that was down to him playing in a position which did not suit him.  Last season Duke was right up there amongst our best players once he got through that disgusting ordeal of the fans booing him.  When Holmes was there they had a very good understanding, which coincided with King getting the Manager of the Month in Feb.  Also Duke can actually cross the ball, which both Igoe and Turbo always failed to do.

I'd rather keep Duke than Robinson anyway. Think I'd prefer it if he didn't stay though so King has the money to bring in someone else.

1.Duke had an absolutely awful season last year, about 20% of the goals we conceded were his fault
2.Turbo is a good footballer
3.Igoe is a great crosser of the ball.

1. Don't be daft.
2. No, there's not a great deal of football in him - he's League 2 (thats div 4 Reg  ) standard plain and simple.
3. Igoe cannot cross the ball, all he does is loft it into the box without looking where it's going at all.  There's never any pace on it, and there's certainly no accuracy there.

Nozza, all 3 points you make are wrong

Title: Igoe staying then...?
Post by: Tails on Monday, July 4, 2005, 16:00:55
Apart from number 3, Igoe can cross.

I agree with Kinky Tom, Robinson is league two standard, I always think people overrate him because he scored a couple of goals against Oxford but he's not really that great. I honestly think Duke is better and to be honest I'd rather have Hewlett in midfield too, they are a similar standard.

Post by: le god cuervo on Monday, July 4, 2005, 16:15:34
igoe cant cross the ball to save his life! i think every corner i've ever seen him take has just been dinked to the near post for the defender to clear it.

in open play he never gets to the by-line to cross it because he's always too scared of someone tackling him. we dont need him anymore.

20% might be wrong, but there was a spell where Duke was a fault for 1 goal in 6 successive matches.  That was after the booing period too.

1. Duke was one of our better players last season and probably got more assists then fuck ups

2. I'm a big Turbo fan, but he isnt a good 'footballer' how ever he is a committed hard worker

3. Igoe cant cross for shit

I have always backed Igoe, i think he is a quality player when he trys, you all know that, i keep saying it.... but now he has gone too far... he didnt even turn up for training on the first day..... so as far as im conserned he can fook off now.... he has showed he doesnt want to be here, no matter how much he says he does.... he knows how the clubs finances are as much as all the other players, and should not expect a bigger contract, when the club is scraping the bottom of the barrell as it is.... !!go find another club, you will only get abuse from this one now!!

Well said. For that reason alone Igoe and Duke should be put out to pasture...

The more I think about it the less I want them to stay.  We'd be screwed for cover in central midfield and defence if they stay.  We could even see Duke line up in central midfield if he signs. mmmmmm. :?

As much as I defend Duke - and I still think we could have much worse a player in the squad - it is time for him to go.  Jack Smith appears to be a direct replacement for him, in that he is just as versatile, and apparently is quick.

Igoe is a wierd one, on his day - Sheff Wed first game of his first season - he can be superb, but as we saw throughout last season he doesn't seem to have the drive to improve on previous performances, and is too inclined to let the game pass him by.

This has gone on long enough, and it is time for a change.  I wish Duke all the best, and I hope he can find somewhere he can be appriciated, while Igoe has to swallow his pride and play for a club he may not have considered playing for before.  At best he has 4 years left in him, and out of those remaining years this next one will be the most important, perhaps THE most important in his career.  He is going to have to give 100% wherever he finds himself playing next season otherwise I can see him playing in the Conference.
