Title: Re: What a bunch of bastards Post by: The Grim Reaper on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, 05:57:46 What is going on with our so called re-development? Seems to be going on forever. Do you think the impending relegation going to put a hold on any plans?

Do you think the impending relegation going to put a hold on any plans? Brighton's new stadium didn't exactly happen over night :hmmm: Title: Re: What a bunch of bastards Post by: sheepshagger on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, 08:20:24 Have to give Brighton some credit - think the ground looks great and their Chief Exec sounds like a bloke talking sense......As much as I hate to admit it !!
Loving the fact that their mascot has a changing room - nice touch !!! Title: Re: What a bunch of bastards Post by: Samdy Gray on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, 08:29:44 Caught a bit of this on the local news the other night (still haven't got a clue why the BBC class Swindon and Brighton as local to each other).
They mentioned that they are going to decorate the away changing room with the away team's badge before each game. They're trying to be friendly to away teams on the premise that they think it'll encourage more away fans to travel and therefore more money for them. I don't know about you but knowing the club badge is in the away changing room makes me much more likely to rush and buy tickets??! I guess it was one of a number of things. Went round Maple Leaf Gardens once (ice hockey). They deliberately made it sparsely decorated and lowered the away dressing room roof so that opposition players had to duck their heads when they had their skates on. That's the kind of psychology I'd like to see if we get a new stadium. Title: Re: What a bunch of bastards Post by: pauld on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, 09:29:12 They mentioned that they are going to decorate the away changing room with the away team's badge before each game. They're trying to be friendly to away teams on the premise that they think it'll encourage more away fans to travel and therefore more money for them. I saw it on Late Kick off and Leroy Rosenior also seemed to think it was the away changing room they were redecorating. In fact the report seemed to suggest that they've got light panels and LCD screens in the away concourse so they can use lights to "change" the colours of the walls and display appropriate graphics on the screens. So it's not the dressing rooms, it's the concourse where fans congregate, and they're not redecorating, just changing the mood lighting and some screens. Redecorating the dressing rooms every couple of weeks (or couple of days if they've got back to back weekend/midweek home fixtures) would just be bizarreTitle: Re: What a bunch of bastards Post by: Samdy Gray on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, 10:00:19 Yeah, I didn't mean decorate as in paint the walls.

Do you think the impending relegation going to put a hold on any plans? I would be very surprised if relegation didn't delay our own plans. And in all honesty, I hope our own plans get delayed because we'll only end up with a half-arsed, make do & mend, 13,000 capacity pre-fab effort if we try building something like this while the club's fortunes are on a downward trajectory. Think Oxford. Title: Re: What a bunch of bastards Post by: pauld on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, 10:45:18 Yeah, I didn't mean decorate as in paint the walls. Sorry Samdy, wasn't really responding to your comment so much as the mis-reporting of it. The LKO bit was ridiculous - they do this whole speil, with the Brighton Chief Exec standing in the concourse, quite clearly spelling out what they're doing, how and why, then cut back to the studio and Leroy Rosenior seems to think they're redecorating the changing rooms. WTF? Title: Re: What a bunch of bastards Post by: Spencer_White on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, 18:00:05 Any redevelopment will involve demolishing the Town End first, which isnt going to be popular.
Title: Re: What a bunch of bastards Post by: Batch on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, 18:14:54 Any redevelopment will involve demolishing the Town End first, which isnt going to be popular. Its got to go though. Title: Re: What a bunch of bastards Post by: Spencer_White on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, 19:53:12 Its got to go though. I know. Just hoped that ground development design might have become a bit less stale and a bit more fan friendly (safe standing, whatever) by the time the CG was finally re-developed. Title: Re: What a bunch of bastards Post by: Costanza on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, 20:01:51 Pffft ... I don't want to go to an away ground and made to feel welcome :)
Title: Re: What a bunch of bastards Post by: Ardiles on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, 20:23:32 Any redevelopment will involve demolishing the Town End first, which isnt going to be popular. Apologies to anyone I offend with this, but...the Town End is a bit of a shit stand. I love the fact it's hardly changed (bar the seats) in 50 years and that it's where most of the singing comes from. But in terms of design as a singing end, it could be so much better. Get rid of the pillars, raise the roof so that it doesn't kill the sound travelling to other parts of the ground and increase the elevation/steepness of the seats so that fans are more 'on top' the the action. It has to go eventually. Title: Re: What a bunch of bastards Post by: Spencer_White on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, 20:31:01 I think the steep elevation of stands now is part of the problem. Ive always preferred shallow banking because it makes fans in the crowd feel more a part of the action.
Not denying the TE is a shit hole. With a shit view, no bar, pillars, stupid bog layout. But its got that quality that does bring a football crowd to life. Do you think the impending relegation going to put a hold on any plans? I suspect our Board might be having a bit of a rethink about their involvement in STFC, not exactly working out as planned is it, so I suspect we'll carry on with the present CG for a while yet. Title: Re: What a bunch of bastards Post by: Oaksey Moonraker on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, 21:12:05 Any redevelopment will involve demolishing the Town End first, which isnt going to be popular. On the Late Kick Off clip they said that the West Stand at new grounds including Brighton's is usally the main stand. The theory behind this is that at a 3pm kick off a West Stand is always in the shade from the sun and you're not looking into the sun. As the Town is our West Stand this might be why it is the focus of the redevelopment. I would have thought with the CG, redeveloping Statton Bank first would have least disruption as it would bring in unused space and then when the Town End is done the home fans could swap ends for year or two. Keep the away fans in the North Stand corner until it's all finished then move back to the Statton Bank. Title: Re: What a bunch of bastards Post by: mrverve on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, 22:15:19 To be fair to Brighton, their club is on the up and their stadium looks impressive. Their going to have projections of away clubs' legends etc for the away fans which I think is a nice touch and something a bit different.

Slap bang in the middle of the rolling downs....a lovely sight. Slap bang in the middle of the rolling downs....a lovely sight. I was thinking exactly the same thing. Imagine the Swindon Borough Council being proposed with the idea. Title: Re: What a bunch of bastards Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Thursday, March 24, 2011, 08:00:34 Yes, I can see why the NIMBY's were pissed off. And let's face it, we're all potential NIMBY's. I certainly would have been if I lived down there. I'd have been gutted to see that monstrosity dumped on my door step.
