Title: Aidy Bothroyd
Post by: tans on Monday, March 14, 2011, 09:29:02
Just got the boot.

Hypthetically, would anyone have him here?

If he were to come, he would need to completely overhaul the squad. He's very direct.

No thanks.....Kick and rush and he probably thinks hes better than divvy 2 anyway.

What game did you watch at their place?????

Spent the whole game time wasting, conning the ref and banging it long.......told the piss taking fans on the bus that they wouldnt be in the playoffs....and...for once i was right!

I heard he was taking over in the summer regardless of what League we are in, Would have him over Hart though, Hart's alright but too negative and has a very poor record.

It'll be Trollope.

According to Fatbury, who's tongue is wedged firmly up Trollope's arse, the only reason we didn't bring him in already is because he's technically still employed by Rovers.

Yeah heard the same, He's got to sort out his pay off/settlement and that's why he's coming in at the end of the season otherwise he would have been in now instead of Hart.

That's my memory of it as well. Horrible, horrible team to watch. I used to like Boothroyd but on the basis of that game I wouldn't want him anywhere near us.

Not as anti Trollope as previously, but he's hardly going to shift the season tickets in League 2 like Wise/Poyet is he?

Don't understand our on the pitch policy at the moment. The board seem to have no difficulty in spending money on transfer fees and wages and yet seemingly bring in a cheap as chips manager like Trollope?

I don't think it's an issue with cost, but that any higher profile managers would be unlikely to put up with Fitton's hand on meddling approach.

Do you think words got around amongst managers that Fitton is like that?

Title: Re: Aidy Bothroyd
Post by: flammableBen on Monday, March 14, 2011, 14:11:46
I worded that harshly. I don't think Fitton keeps his views on how the football club should be run a secret. I'm sure as part of any employment process for a new manager he sits down with any potentials and explains to them about our youth policy, spending transfer fees as investments etc.

Who knows if it puts some off, I'm sure some managers have warning signs over chairmen like that though. There's a few less nice meddling ones about.

The prospect of League 2 is horrible enough without having to contemplate a manger of Bothroyd`s ilk....for fuck`s sake dont let this be true.

Where`s Lou Macari when you need him...

Stick with Hart...if he has connections that bring players like Andrews in then why not....?

I'd stick with Hart. I like him.

Either I've just been whooshed, or your rose-tinted specs are seeing Lou Macaris teams in a totally different light to me - they were hardly known for playing pretty football were they ?

If it was my decision, I'd only have one reservation, continually having to correct the cunts on here who can't spell his name...

I loathe his style of play, but given a bit of cash he'd get us straight back up, so needs must.

Unless Fitton has some change of heart, I'd imagine he likes to see a bit of football, so probably wont happen.

 Trollope eh  :hmmm:

For those moaning about Trollope....he took Rovers from L2 strugglers to L2 promotion in the space of a year. Not bad. Good record at that level. Did well with Rovers bar this season as well on a shite budget. Boothroyd would never come to a L2 team. I think some people need to get a reality check to be honest. We won't be getting a big name or a really decent manager because of the level we are at.

I was going to post something along those lines. His record at Rovers does not look that awful and in fairness, Rovers did not look that bad a side when we played them at the CG earlier in the season. Worth noting also that he took them to the Paint Pot Trophy Final and the Quarter Finals of the Cup. A decent cup run (of any description) is something this club is crying out for. I've no idea (just like anyone else) whether he would be good, bad or indifferent for us but if he's going to be our next manager we might as well look for the positives.

Forgot about their cup runs actually. And you're spot on. We all know Fitton is also keen on cup progress. Could be a good thing for Trollope if he wants the job here.

If Boothroyd, would do ColU, then he'd do Swindon.  More likely Fitton would not be interested, firstly style of play secondly he'd fuck off as soon as we got on a run...

I think that has to be taken into account when looking at Trollope's previous record if it is the case. It certainly seems to be the common conception and I believe Lawrence is seen to be doing similar things alongside Freedman at Palace at the moment.

This is the sort of thing we'll never know....but can assume that Trollope picked up some knowledge along the way.....Fitton may well regard it as a sign that Trollope is a team player and could work alongside him in a sort of Lawrence role.

I thought it was hoofball. First goal definitely was, after we had played some nice stuff. Then after that they just stopped us playing.

Most frustrating game of last season.

Boothroyd is a proper long ball merchant.

Within League Two, Trollope would be a decent appointment... League One? Well he wouldn't be out of his depth.

Boothroyd would probably just bugger off after 8 months if a bigger club came in anyway (like he did with Colchester). That's the problem with appointing such managers.

The days of Swindon appointing "WOW" names are long gone... I'm not saying that Boothroys would be a 'wow' manager but you know what I mean :) (I hope)

I don't know what game you watched but I felt a draw might have been a bit unfair; to say we were stuffed is ridiculous. It was also so hoofy it made Sam Allardyce look like Wenger.

I think we should take inspiration from the recent Samsung thing and run a "next STFC manager" competition.

We'd have to start now so that the potentials could take charge of a few reserve games before taking over for a few extra friendlies post season.

It wouldn't have to be just unknowns going for the job, there's enough out of work candidates out there to make it interesting. Andy King might even re-apply.

It might seem like a silly publicity stunt on the front of it, but it would also put the club in the front position on hiring, instead of the other way round.
