Quote MacLaren named Magpies assistant Notts County have appointed Ross MacLaren as assistant manager. MacLaren joins Gudjon Thordarson at Meadow Lane and has signed a one-year contract with the League Two outfit. MacLaren left his post as head of the youth team at Southend earlier this week, a position he had held for the past year at the Roots Hall club. He was assistant to John Gregory during his torrid time at Derby County and had playing spells with Glasgow Rangers, Shrewsbury, Swindon as well as Derby. Title: Ross McLaren - New assistant at Notts County Post by: Reg Smeeton on Saturday, July 2, 2005, 00:19:26 Ross McBlobby is one of my favourite players.....I loved the way when there were handbags he would intervene and the participoants knew he meant it. Plus I loved the way he smashed in a 30 yarder to beat Leeds in 90....always hated them. Two winning Wembley appearances and there's not a lot who can claim that.
Also his missus got in a scrap with Tracey Digby. One of my sadder STFC experiences was watching Gorman trying to get Ross fit for a game at Ashton Gate.....he was doing running in the Lawns (topical) it was evident to me the fella ws fucked, but JG took a punt and we lost.....rightly unacceptable, so JG was sacked Title: Ross McLaren - New assistant at Notts County Post by: Melksham Red on Saturday, July 2, 2005, 08:18:15 I too used to love Ross Maclaren. He had a habit of grabbing players around the throat whenever there was a bit of agro. We could do with a hard cunt like that now couldn't we.
That goal against Leeds was awesome and so important to keep our playoff hopes on track. Big crowd and big atmoshere that day. Hate to say it but those were the days. Title: Ross McLaren - New assistant at Notts County Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Saturday, July 2, 2005, 09:47:12 A great player in his day. A key player from 1990 side, the best Town side I personally have seen.
Just the sort of player we need now in fact. Title: Ross McLaren - New assistant at Notts County Post by: Bedford Red on Saturday, July 2, 2005, 10:29:10 That Leeds match was great, I'm sure the gates were locked by 2 that Sunday. Full house, and deservidly beat Leeds.
I'm sure that was the game where Mike Whitlow broke his leg, and was hobbling around as the ref wouldn't let the trainer on, and we took the corner and McClaren smashed in the winner, and the ref let Leeds send their trainer on then, they weren't happy. That 1990 side was also the best I've seen, I enjoy going now but I enjoyed it more then, standing, the atmosphere etc. Ahhh, nostalgia! :D Title: Ross McLaren - New assistant at Notts County Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Saturday, July 2, 2005, 10:56:25 That Leeds game is without doubt one of the best I have seen. Fantastic game played in a fantastic atmosphere. I only just managed to get in the Town End by the skin of my teeth. I would have been gutted to miss that one!
Title: Ross McLaren - New assistant at Notts County Post by: Bedford Red on Saturday, July 2, 2005, 11:24:30 I was in Shrivenham Road by 1.30 so I was ok.
The West Ham Game two weeks after I got there about 2 and was queueing when they announced Shrivenham Road was full, so there was a mad dash/push etc to get into other parts of the ground where there was room. that was a good game too, not up to the Leeds standard though. Still remember Chalky's goal which was ruled out for offside, otherwise we would have won 3-2. I think Quinn got both for West Ham that day. According to reports it's down to finances at the club as they've let other people go as well; and the manager went at the weekend too. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/n/notts_county/5016456.stm |
