Looks to me like they have applied stars by number of appearances or just a random finger in the wind.
No thought given to who the real legends.

The 3-0 at the Manor was one of my darkest days ever at school the next day.

Seen some good 4-1 wins at the County Ground and can remember a night game in the mid 90's at SN1. There was 13,000 there!

Remember the season we were flying in Div 1.....they were near bottom and dicked us 5-3 at there place.
Won 4-0 at Plymouth and 4-1 at Ipswich that year as well as hammering Sunderland 5-2 at home.

I get the feeling (maybe I'm wrong?) that most of your fans look back on the Manor in the same way we do though; a shithole, but a charming one in a way.

I don't really remember too much about my first Oxford match, we played Leicester when Matt Elliott was still on our side and not theirs, and I think it was a 2-2 draw and the ref was a shocker. Watched the highlights back the other day and didn't recall any of the action.

Not too long after was my first and last derby at the Manor. We lost, 2-0 I think. I can vividly remember our mustard kit, a very young Dean Whitehead getting sent off, hundreds of pound coins raining down on Mildenhall and the sound of them all clanking against the goalposts, and that cunt Gary Alexander blowing a kiss to the London Road when he scored.

I'd like to one day build a football ground with a replica terrace of the London Road.


There's a fair few around, plus there's all the people from the suburbs of the city who'd be up for getting involved.

Steve Robinson scored both goals.  Whitehead did get sent off, as did Matt Murphy later in the game for a second yellow.  But it took the ref a good 10 seconds after issuing the 2nd yellow (and some vociferous calls from the Town fans present) to realise this before ordering Murphy off.

That defeat was pretty much the nail in your coffin that season.  [Edit:  Memory playing tricks with me.  You were more than 20 points from safety at that point!]

Next season will certainly rekindle old memories and ignite the derby once again.

I can see both games being sell outs. Especially if we're both doing well. Oxford will bring 3,000 easy to our place and they will be up for it big time.

Just hope our bag of shite players know what this game means to us.

Nowt to do with players who largely only have the vaguest idea of this game....as I posted about Turbo, he told me he didn't even know it was considered a derby....for him that was Villa v Brum, Notts C v Nottm F that sort of thing.

Outside of the fanbase, our rivalries have as low a profile as a Football League club can.

Two town derbies are as violent as inter city derbies, if not more violent.

There was time when they wouldn't let us play on a Saturday - the games had to be midweek.

That's the one. My memory is worse than I thought - didn't remember Murphy getting sent off and I was sure Alexander scored (though I can still see him parallel to me in the London Road, blowing a kiss; that part definitely did happen). Like you say we were well on our way down when we met.

Our squad that day was a fucking disgrace. Almost all of them either retired, joined small local sides, or became builders, as soon as the season ended. Hatswell went to Kiddy, Patterson failed at assisting/managing us and Rovers, and Dean Whitehead went to Stoke via Sunderland. All the rest were utter dogshite. Not trying to make any excuses though.

That last game at the manor was my first Oxford away game, it was a great little ground, it's a shame you ruined it with a shite three sided stadium that nobody could ever care about.

My favourite memory about that final manor 2-0 win wasn't the coins thrown at mildenhall, but the coins and stones thrown over the back of our stand, and a policeman giving the kids a good bollocking. Fucking hilarious.

Also, your programme writers were a bit amateur, and did the classic stoke mispelling of Pot Vale. Lots of laughs.

Turbo is swindon's 22nd best player of the last 10 years. We need a terrier like him right now.

Just to say, this incident that has happened in Witney, is what the squads of City rivals have to put up with all the time. Should have opened the players eyes a bit more to what the scummers are like.

I know this is full of wrong, but didn't JB have a blinder for us against Oxford at home in his short stint? he also played a part in our semi final run in the League Cup.  Other than that, he was a fuck wit of the highest order.

West Ham got burned twice, once by JB and once by Marco Boogers who had a mental breakdown shortly after signing if memory serves me.

Among several visits to the Manor, two stand out in my memory, but not for the football.
The first season League football was played there, I and 2 mates decided to cycle there for an Easter game against Torquay (1963 I think). We'd got as far as South Marston when a freak snowstorm hit us, but after sheltering under the railway bridge there we carried on. Eventually got to the ground, the only thing I remember about the game is that Ron and Graham Atkinson were playing.
A few years later drove there for a Town game on my first scooter, a crappy NSU Prima with electric start. It broke down just as I got into the city. Thumbed it to the ground, walked back to the outskirts again and thumbed it to Swindon. The bloke who gave me a lift back was Highworth and Wiltshire Football legend Dudley (Cheddar) Cheesley. Some older Townenders may remember him... ?
