No better than Simon Cox v Walsall... if Rooney had scored that you'd never hear the end of it.

Didnt watch the game, so its the first time I've seen it and having read most of the comments first, my first thought was 'is that it?'

That wouldnt even break into a Simon Cox top three.

Vs Hartlepool where he skinned about 3 players, Vs Scunthorpe where he skinned a few and chipped the keeper.

I agree with you completely Davi. All the noise I heard about it I was expecting something incredible, like going around 5 players and scoring from 40 yards or something. It was Rooney though, so it explains why everyone's playing soggy biscuit over it. (Personally I think he's a deplorable, lazy, fat shitcunt.)

Title: Re: Think

Even my eldest said "I've seen better goals than that at Swindon". Which prompted a flurry of YouTubing for the benefit of the youngest :)

But everyone knows football only started in 1992 and doesn't exist outside the Premiership. And goals not scored by the top four don't count

Title: Re: Think

was a great goal.
It was. But would it have got the same attention if it had been scored by a Stoke player? I doubt it.

I've just heard some football journo from one of the nationals on the radio describe it as "something only Wayne Rooney is capable of". Which is palpable nonsense and typifies how OTT the wankfest surrounding this has been

Title: Re: Think

Think that applies to everything that goes on in that league Paul.

Title: Re: Think

It's only a fluke when a lower league player does anything of such quality and that my friends is a Scientific fact.

...and we cannot argue with it because if you do you'll get a face of confusion. This is, of course, unless a League One club are being plucky within the 'magic of the F.A. Cup'. This results in five minutes of patronising back slapping from the likes of Henry Winter and Phil McNulty. Hooray!

Lower league football fans are weirdos.

Don't ever forget that Rooney is a money grabbing, grany shagging, unpatriotic, lazy, wife cheating, scouse, cunt! One good goal does not make up for all of his shit England performances, his back stabbing of Everton he is a cunt in the ture and honest sense of the word.

As for all the so called punits wannking over each other that is all they ever do.

Timing, technique, poise, panache . . .

But not in the same league as Prutton's set up for Benyon's clinical debut goal.

This season isn't over yet

Wasn't even the best goal from yesterday. Van Persie's second was liquid football, a proper team goal. Rooney's was a playstation goal, exactly the sort of shit sky gets excited about because it can be cut into 2 seconds for a Super Sunday ad.

Get a grip....you been playing too many computer games iffy......back to goal a foot of the ground on the volley......not a great lover of Rooney but it will win the goal of the season.....and not just on Sky.

I'm with Leefer. If it hadn't been Rooney the reaction from the media might have been smaller, but then at the same time you lot would probably have given it a lot more credit. Great goal.

Agree that Cox scored atleast one or two better though.

It was more important that it was the winner in a Manchester derby. It was an important goal, but I really don't think it was a "great" goal. This is a personal opinion, but genuinely great goals for me either involve incredible teamwork and movement with a good finish or  Giggs/Baggio/Maradona type dribbles from the halfway line. Carlos Alberto in 1970 was for me the best ever goal, which is why I preferred van Persie's second.

The first Man Utd goal was just as good as Van Persie's for Arsenal.......mind you that Sinclair goal was special.

Classic game!

Hewlett went off injured and Turbo came on. Turbo went off injured  15 minutes later and Fallon came on.

King, having his hand forced and little choice, moved Grant Smith into the middle - he then scored twice that game and never looked back, apart from when he fucked off to Bristol City!

Ifil got sent off, very much a take one for the team style as their player was well away through on goal.

We played some excellent football during the King era. We had some good attacking players ie Howard, Parkin, Mooney, Igoe, Smith, Fallon and some gems who came on loan but we were just awful at the back. Does anyone remember one year I think it was at Saltergate and we played with a back 3 of Heywood, Reeves and Gurney and got absolutely torn to shreads by an awful Chestefield side. I never forget the King interview after the game he went absoltely mental at our back line and vowed never to play them in that formation again.

He played in a back 3 in a pre season game (maybe Portsmouth) and was awesome.

His next game at the back was in our relegation season away at Rotherham, such a make shift backline. Migz was of course awesome and we won.

Reeves, Viveash and Heywood as a defensive trio. I'd probably outpace them.
