Title: Re: Reggae brittania Post by: Reg Smeeton on Thursday, February 10, 2011, 17:04:12 Nice pic of Lynton Kwesi Johnson, who I saw a couple of times, but can't remember where or when so probably had a good time.
Title: Re: Reggae brittania Post by: suttonred on Thursday, February 10, 2011, 19:43:11 Finally had a chance to look through, and there's some good stuff there. I remember that rock goes to college gig, but never seen it since. My only problem with the line up is sticking bloody UB40 under reggae. Awful band.

Title: Re: Reggae brittania Post by: suttonred on Thursday, February 10, 2011, 20:56:56 They did a few good early original songs. It's their covers i've got more of an issue with.
Title: Re: Reggae brittania Post by: adje on Thursday, February 10, 2011, 20:58:40 Yes mate-post '82 all that Labour Of Love shite
Title: Re: Reggae brittania Post by: suttonred on Thursday, February 10, 2011, 21:09:03 I would mention the fact that Reggae and Boy George don't go in the same sentence. But I'm not too sure of my ground there, as I wasn't initially convinced he was a bloke, as I'm sure were others at the time.
Title: Re: Reggae brittania Post by: Arriba on Thursday, February 10, 2011, 23:03:31 ub40's 1 in 10 is an absolute classic.

Title: Re: Reggae brittania Post by: Saxondale on Friday, February 11, 2011, 22:17:36 ub40's 1 in 10 is an absolute classic. actually, a few of their tunes are superb The missus and I were just saying exactly the same. Started as a good band. Title: Re: Reggae brittania Post by: cheltred69 on Friday, February 11, 2011, 22:27:17 signing off is fucking awesome. agree - was great when released and has stood the test of time - Present Arms was a decent album too - some good dub tracks I recall, but they destroyed credibility a bit after that with poppy covers of classics that were far better in the original versions Title: Re: Reggae brittania Post by: Bogus Dave on Friday, February 11, 2011, 23:06:20 I saw them at the o2 last year. They played for about two hours, and I knew 3 songs. Well dull.
And they only played 'Falling in love' during the encore. Just seem to me like a 1980's vanilla ice - honkys trying something done much better by black people Title: Re: Reggae brittania Post by: chalkies_shorts on Friday, February 11, 2011, 23:45:40 UB40 started off as a radical anti establishment band but within a couple of years became establishment and then had their arses up the establishment by joining the cabaret circuilt with fuck all to say. After 3/4 years they were nothing more than a fucking embarassment.
Title: Re: Reggae brittania Post by: adje on Saturday, February 12, 2011, 11:21:54 Now unfortunately a third-rate pop/soul covers band
Title: Re: Reggae brittania Post by: Reg Smeeton on Saturday, February 12, 2011, 12:15:56 UB40 started off as a radical anti establishment band but within a couple of years became establishment and then had their arses up the establishment by joining the cabaret circuilt with fuck all to say. After 3/4 years they were nothing more than a fucking embarassment. I always felt with them that their stance was fake, the 1 in 10 thing just an empty, but well crafted song. Fair play though, they made a decent living out of it....I'd pay not to see them. |
