There's a fine line. Wasn't he interviewed for the Sheffield United job before Micky Adams was appointed?

Think so. As exasperated as we've all been at times, I really think we've done the right thing to keep hold of Danny.

True but a scummer....they seem to be heading down with us among the dead men, so I guess their Board have gone for the knee jerk....a mistake I'd say.

Eddie Newton has also left WBA. He's been assistant for some years now. Maybe we could give him a shot at first team management after Wilson leaves in the summer.

If only his hairdo was anything like before:

Yep...I was told he was coming, then Newcastle wanted compensation, so that scuppered it.  Of course Money is now available, if Fitton is still interested....he did win Div 4 last time.

In most cases all you can do is suck it and see....it's a distinctly inexact science, I'm sure whoever gets the job next season will get 4 or 5 games to hit the ground running before the fan's knives are sharpened.

Hart is someone who has been fairly mediocre at a higher level, Money and Trollope have only had success in L2. Difficult to compare.

I remember when the club wanted Money and the deal was scuppered, we got Danny Wilson instead, which I was delighted with. I suppose circumstances are different now because next season we will be a 4th division club.

Malpas had some corkers too. They mainly consisted of ''We have to get this monkey off our back'' and ''One swallow doesn't make a summer'' and to top it all off, when he was asked ''Whats gone wrong?'' he replied confidently '' I don't know''.

Title: Re: Another one bites the dust
Post by: Batch on Sunday, April 3, 2011, 18:38:30
wasnt wrong of the reasons he left Swindon was due to do with the travelling?

What I believe happened (not fact) is that the Power/Devlin camp offered him a contact which was signed by resident Tim dim but dim director James Wills. The other camp (Diamandis and co) went mental at the cost. I think this is what lead to the split becoming public and why the then STFC secretary was laid off. I certainly remember the other camp suggesting they felt they had to honour the Ince contact that had been signed...

I think the travelling thing was a smoke screen while it was all sorted out.  I think Ince would have fancied a bit of managerial experience when Wise left. Since that wasn't forthcoming he left amicably.

I don't know if this is far from the truth or not. This is my take.

Pretty much on the nail as I recall, except that Diamandis et al were initially all in favour of it when they thought Bill was underwriting it on his todd, but then once they forced him out realised they'd then have to stump up themselves. Not something they had a good track record at. So it then became a stick to beat Bill/Mark D with. It wasn't the cause of the split, but became a political tool after it.

I would have loved the club to attract someone like Tisdale at Exeter, but if I was him would almost regard Swindon as a step down which is a sad prediciment!

Out of interest, did anyone watch the JPT final?  I cant be the only person who thought Brentford's performance reminded them of the performance of a certain team at Wembley back in May?

Not really. He was on non-contract terms earning, reportedly, 250 quid a week. He's brought some good players in an given them a fighting chance to of staying up, but at the end of that day why wouldn't he move for a one year rolling deal at a much bigger club?

He really did a number over them, made some horrendous decisions and made a series of outlandish rants and there are question marks over his attitude following  a few off the pitchy incidents that cumulated in him being sent on gardening leave.

He’s traded off a couple of decent seasons with Brentford and hasn’t done much else since.

Wasn't he in the running to become manager here before Malpas? I remember him being interested.

In his interview on 5 live, he did come across as a class A plonker!

At Franchise didnt he have Adi Whitbread as his assistant?

Hardly surprising. Maybe if their board hadn't spent since December publicly undermining him, they'd have stayed up. Probably not, but it can't have helped. Only themselves to blame

They'll go in for Di Canio no doubt.

Sets up an epic final day though 5 teams fighting for 3 places with 1pt between them  :I'm a complete mofleakin Deak

the sort of thing you can only enjoy to watch as a complete neutral!

A guy that sits next to me in the office is a Birmingham fan. With Man U playing Blackpool next week he must be as nervous as fuck. Remember United has won the league and have some minor final less than a week later - weakened team?!

Birmingham are away to Spurs - who are chasing the Europa league dream:)

If Brum lose by one more goal than Blackpool they will go down on goals scored!

I'd love it to go down to goal difference. I don't like Holloway, but i wouldn't mind Blackpool staying up...

Feel quite sorry for him tbh.

Same here, it was always going to be difficult for him with the likes of Gold and Brady at the helm.  Some of the West Ham fans were going ballistic after the final whistle, I couldn't really work out who it was aimed at and the sky cameras quickly went back to the studio as if it was turning a bit nasty?

I'd like to see Blackpool stay up, don't really care much for any of the others.  Although a guy who sits a couple of desks away from me is a brummie.  He'll be foul tomorrow and if they get relegated, I dread to think .......

Fucking hell, they gave Grant four year deal ,which is a long time for a manager, and they will probably have to pay the last three years off. Ouch !!

Man Utd have a pretty strong squad though, arguably the strongest in the league - they can pretty much put out two completely different full strength teams. Their bench against Blackburn had Evra, Anderson, Owen, Berbatov and Scholes.

Gold and Sullivan seem to be getting alot of shot over this but all they have been guilty of is sticking by the manager, they did the same at Birmingham to be honest.

Any other manager but Grant would have kept that team up.Look at the squad of players they got and tell me that they don't have some very decent players.

Sticking by their manager? Sure, but undermining him and the team at every opportunity. Almost like they wanted the club to be relegated. Wonder if it makes it cheaper to buy the rest of the club?

Let's be honest, as soon as Grant was given the job (I forget, last season after Zola?) they were destined for relegation this season, the man's even less inspiring than Hart.

As somebody said a few posts ago they have a decent squad - a WBA or a Newcastle is no better on paper - but the worst man manager in the prem = bottom, hardly a surprise is it?

I think publicly flirting with O'Neill in January is their most obvious mistake but there's been plenty including Gold's comments recently about not wanting to travel to some away games where he thinks a result is unlikely.

The thing with Avram Grant is that he always looks baffled, he wonders around the touchline with the same expression one would have if they're trying to find their car in a busy car park.

Blackpool chairman assures Holloway he will not be sacked even if Blackpool go down.

Surely there's no question he should be in the job at the start of next season regardless?

It's all kicked off at West Ham's end of season party. Ba refuses to sign an autograph as he's 'too tired' and a player/fan brawl follows.

A relegation party was probably not the best idea was it.

This news doesn't surprise me either but wasn't the Nottm Forest boards policy regarding transfers a bit backwards? They had a commitee of something like that.

Now favourite for the Villa job.Seems to me Randy Learner is not as keen to splash the cash as he first made out.

Yes they are run a bit unusually. But Davies just wanted them to spend silly money all the time. If you look at it, Forest have achieved some success, whilst bringing through some great talent, so at the moment you would have to say its worked well.

I think its the right decision, they needed someone new. Almost every interview I saw with Davies over the past 2 years he was criticising his budget.

Cant blame McLeish the way he was treated by their board. That Carson Yeung is a clueless twit, and I would expect Birmingham to go into meltdown over the next few years.

He hasnt got the job yet. Seems to be fashionable at the moment for managers to leave without another job lined up.

I thought their support of McLeish was very half hearted. Birmingham were very unlucky with injuries at the end of the season. End of the day he won them a major trophy, and they should thank him for that.

And fact is, Villa are a much bigger club than Birmingham. But were bigger than the Pox, so it would be a bit different.

Lets face it Billy Davies must have found it hard combining jobs with his role of Nookie Thomson in Boardwalk Empire and the Forest job.

On a serious note i think he is one of these managers that is over hyped, certainly a good manager but not as good as he or others subscribe to in my opinion.
