Title: Football Bets
Post by: walrus on Tuesday, February 1, 2011, 09:55:41
Anyone having a flutter tonight?  I'm working my notice at work so doing very little, and trying to piece together some accumulators for a bit of extra cash for my holiday next week!  Any thoughts?  Will post mine later on....

If anyone needs insurance, give me a shout.  Free No Claims Discount for all!

..wouldn't let me modify for some reason.

I work in for a personal lines broker in Epsom, but is predominantly car.  Apparently a Town fan walked in t'other day, but alas I was off....

Samdy - give me a ring!  01372 720 200, ask for Paul ext. 216.  I can't promise I can beat your rate but I'll cut the other fees etc.

Crispy - you're buggered.  £3000 seems to be about the average premium.  It was £1500 for me on a new car when I was 17, so demonstrates how the market has changed.  The best advice to do it properly would be to insure in a parent's name and use their no-claims discount.  The process is called fronting and is technically wrong, but some insurers will allow it.  I would look to insurance brokers as some will do unethical things to get you a competitive rate.  If you do it yourself online you could invalidate your cover.

Something I did unwittingly when I came back off a ban was use a much older date of birth, so my car was technically insured and I built up NCD, but if I'd had a claim it probably wouldn't have been paid out.  I did get two years cheaper insurance because of it though...

That means nothing to me apart from ask the parents if I can make them insure the car and put my name on it aswell as theirs??

Pretty much...  Young drivers are being ripped off at the moment, especially male, due to the high number of claims.  The Vauxhall Corsa (1.0l version) is one of the best cars to insure for a new driver.  If you look to insure the vehicle in your own name, you will be looking at premiums in the region of £3,000 depending on where you live, but this is likely to be with a non-reputable company you've never heard of.

Alternatively, if your parents are willing to put you on their policy (assuming they're good drivers) premiums of £1200+ are achievable.  However, this may increase your parents current prices and if you have a claim you will affect their insurance also.

There is no cheap, easy way for young male drivers to get insurance any more.  It's just a case of phoning everybody - brokers, companies direct, checking the Internet etc. - and haggling whatever you can get.  If you're genuinely a mature chap who's not a boy-racer and isn't going to pick his mates up at 3am, try www.insurethebox.com .  They fit a device to your car which measures the style of driving, and safe drivers are rewarded.  However, there are restrictions on the times you can drive the car, and if you're flying round like a nutter they're likely to withdraw cover.

I did indeed - cue mass celebration.  Bet 1 wasn't far off - Watford let me down despite going a goal ahead.  I suppose Dougie Freedman's goal-scoring duck had to end sooner or later....
