Fortunately, it's somewhat better than Soccer AM. I don't want to hype it up too much but there are worse ways of spening half an hour.

It's better than Soccer AM because it's presented by Jackson, but also by Fenners. Who is damned funny and also the main reason why Soccer AM used to be good.

The programme is shite quite frankly.
fenners - Think Johnny Vaughan on a bigger ego trip, with a Manc accent and attitude, being "cool for the cameras" and asking a series of neds picked from the crowd a load of questions for cash, and taking the piss when they get it wrong.

The interesting bits - there are two actually - one is Charlotte Jackson, who is fucking top totty - real top drawer and she has got them out before for Nuts magazine etc.
The other good bit is that they go to league grounds, not just Prem grounds, and basically show a bit behind the scenes - talk to players and manager, pull fat sweaty middle aged guys out of the crowd, and generally big up the club - which is good.
They do some before the game, have a penalty for cash on the pitch at half time with usually a bloke who got more questions right than his opponent taking a pen against the home teams reserve keeper, then they do more of it at full time - they also do a little bit of the home teams history from an interesting angle - they show a spot on the pitch where something special happened, talk about it, then show the archive footage of it happening - for instance last week it was Brighton at the Withdean, and they just HAD to show Adam fucking Virgos last gasp play off goal against us among Brightons highlights. worth a watch but I wouldnt bother looking at anything otther than Charlottes arse, which is a peach

That penalty was funny,  but thats exactly what would've happened to me if I'd been taking it - my lifes ambition to score a pen in front of the Town End and I'd end up making a complete tit of myself.

Bravo Town End. Didnt dissapoint. My dad was in the South stand and said it came across loud and clear and had everyone in stiches.

Yeah, when we had the Bristol Rovers away game in League 2, he was in front of us. Basically everyone else around him was going completely mental, bouncing around, because of the massive importance of the game and he was sat down in front of us.

He looked like an ex copper. Big, with a moustache. His wife was obese. He obviously hated the fans standing up. He obviously had no idea that Swindon would take down a mad rabid following to that game. After the game he posted how he was 'ashamed to be a Swindon fan' because of the fans behaviour and things like 'Swindon fans need to respect the decision of the referee' and that our language was totally unnaceptable at a football match and repeated some of the things I had heard. So yes, I am 99% certain it was him and I know what he looks like. He stuck out like a sore thumb that day.

Putting 2 and 2 together I think he was probably discharged from the MET about 10 years ago because he was a bit of a fruit loop and probably hasnt worked since.

This uber-fan nonsense does my head in, it really does. Its a little harsh when you are a child in the modern information age, its easy to support the likes of Man Utd, Chelsea etc due to peer pressure.

I had a very interesting conversation about football with my seven year old nephew over Christmas as he was playing FIFA something or other on his PS. Now bear in mind he lives in Stroud, a traditional hotbed of Swindon support. The conversation went something like this....

Me: So who do you support then?
Nephew: Newcastle (because of Dad...), Spurs (because of Mum....), Man Utd, Chelsea, England, Spain and Blackpool (as Grandpa lives there...) [I added the bracketed bits for context]
Me: What about a more local side that Daddy and your Uncle pumbaa go to watch then? Like Swindon?
Nephew: Who are they? They aren't on my FIFA game and never on the telly.

At which point, my forehead was heading towards the nearest wall.....however, symptomatic of kids of that age.

I remember supporting Liverpool and Spurs until my Dad took me to the County Ground when I was about 7. From that point on, it was Swindon all the way (that is now probably considered child abuse....)

Conversely, my youngest, 5 at the time, showed no interest when the missus got him the new 2010-11 Match Attax album, even though he'd been obsessive about the World Cup one over the summer. When we questioned his ingratitude, he just said "But I support Swindon and England. I'm not interested in all these teams". And I know for a fact Swindon are on FIFA 09 and 11, cos it's all he bloody plays. He'll have the occasional foray into replaying FA Cup games he's seen or playing Liverpool v Barca etc but 90% of the time, it's straight back onto guiding Town to a glorious defeat over Orient or Huddersfield. Clearly, your nephew just isn't being brought up properly :)

Lets not go there.....meanwhile my little one knows exactly what side his bread is buttered.....

For the record, I wasn't being entirely serious. The Lids fan makes a fair point that there's a lot of "dual supporters" in any lower league crowd and pumbaa is exactly right that the way football is served up in the media these days will only make that more prevalent as time goes in - my kid's very much the exception among his mates (not just in football either, he's probably a bit odd, tbh). It may seem odd, even offensive, to the hardcore purists but it's the way it is. And actually, we should be grateful - at least these strange hybrid beasts are actually coming to watch live football and, as ICantKickaPenaltyAnyMoreThanICanDefineLoyal points out, putting money in the tills. The real divide to me, the real lost generation, is not between purist vs glory-hunting hybrid lightweights (:)) but between the armchairs and those who actually get off their butts to watch any games live in the flesh.

The last 2 matches Ive bought my 7 year old and 4 year old girls.  Im trying to make sure they choose the right path.  Mind you they are girls and have rebelled against taste by liking JLS already.

I still vividly remember owining a united and 2 swindon strips when I was about 7. I had a season ticket and was there for the United game. When Paul Ince scored I applauded. My Dad, who I don't remember ever swearing at me, shouted, "If you want to support them you can piss off over there" whilst pointing at the stratton bank. Cue tears from me.

It works.  I'm the eldest, so was taken out to the County Ground first when I was about 7 knowing nothing about football other than the fact my dad was always watching it or playing it.  28 years later I'm still there!

I've just tested my 7 year old by asking him who his favourite football team is and he looked at me incredulously and without hesitation said 'Swindon, why'?  When I mentioned that he also likes Arsenal (courtesy of my husband) he said 'Yes, but I live in Swindon and you and Grandad support them and I get to watch them every week.  I only see Arsenal on television'.  Good lad!

He also prefers wearing his Swindon kits training rather than his Arsenal one.  In the minority there of course.
