(thinking that we are all playing as swindon) who have you found to be the best signings, and what do you find are best formations etc.... i think omar daley is the best buy for swindon, 5k but you cant get him until the 2nd season, because he is on a season long loan at preston.... but make a bid ASAP before his price goes up and anyone spots him.

I find with Swindon that no matter who plays on the right wing they always play bad and gets 3s and 4s.....no matter WHO!!

I go with Evans in goal, however he has moved on I now have Steve Simonson in goal, with Nicky Eyre (on-loan from Spurs) as back up

I have Jenkins, Ifil, Reeves and Parkin who can fill in...

Holding midfielder has been brought in on loan. First Issac Osbourne then later Jordan Fowler, Pook can do a job there though

2 midfielders are Migz who is my best player by far and one of Pook/Howard/Smith depending on how they are playing

I play Igoe in the hole where he is very good, if hes injured I play Howard or Caton there.

Striker are two from Roberts, Fallon, Caton, Parkin (Jon not Super Sammy :cry: ) oh and Andy Kirk

Currently 3rd in League One 2nd season Feb....

Sometimes City accept peanuts for Roberts right at the start. I think I had to wait a while till he was frustrated not playing and a few other teams were interested then I bought him. Cant remember how much I paid but I sold both Parkin (to Hull) and Evans (to [get this] Man Utd) for decent money

Well i just did a game with your formation. i drew at home 1-1 with oldham, everyone played a 7 except ifil and heywood both played 8, and my scorer was Guy ipoua with matty getting man of the match

I generally go attacking at home, and normal away

I find it much harder to win away games....but once you win a few confidences goes up and its easier to get results

Roberts gets alot of goals, Igoe should score shed loads from the hole though he does for me....

do you get igoe it run inbetween the 2 strikers or just leave him in the attacking midfield, if you get what i mean (right click and drag the arrow between them or not)

Yeah I have Igoe running forward from the hole

I also have the full backs, Duke and Nicho running forward to the half way line to create some width

well what iv done, is a bit less attacking, iv got the left and right back only running to the same position as the defensive midfielder, and the DM going into the centre of the midfield, and the attacking midfielder just staying still (Juan Ugarte ;) ) i just won 3-1 away at Dony, with Guy Ipoua scoring all 3 (and i got him from dony for only 4k ha ha ha)

I played with a 4-1-4-1 which worked incredibly well, it is the formation to have in the premiership

If you can get Kenny Lunt in right midfield, snap him up - he is the solution to the right wing problem he averaged about 8. David Sanchez is also superb. Youseff Safri is good too.

If you ever get to the premiershup buy Fabrizio Miccoli, got him on a free for 50k a week wages, half my wage budget but worth every penny

Morale is all important, best to keep a steady team if you can.

Transfers are the key for me though, the team Swindon start with is pretty good, O'Hanlon and Evans were good enough for the premiership but I got loads of free transfers in and thats what makes the difference.

Iv just noticed, that Guy ipoua lad has got 4 goals in 3 games for me, and only cost 4k, ha ha.... he is pretty godly.... him and parkin or him and Daley next year will be ace, ill get promoted if i dont this time round, no probs, especially with your formation, cos that works.... nice one !!!

Oh yeah key player Kyle Lapham. He is unbelievable, his value went from nothing to £2.5 million in a couple of years, he also played in the premiership, Lapham and O'Hanlon in central defence works wonders.

Nathan Doyle is another great player for right back. Roscoe D'Sane in attack too, you can get him cheap from Aldershot I think he can score 20+ in league one, decent in the championship too.

Got Tim Sheerwood on a free and has been supurb in my 3.5.2 formation. not doing too well though now :cry:

Pretty basic, worked ok but for the championship had to change the whole squad around and change the tactics too.

Migz is playing imense for me in that 4-1-2-1-2 formation, he was injured for ages, so i put him in reserves to get fitnes, and forgot he was in there, and he started complaining for lack of first team, so i brought him back in, and in his 2 games he has played 10 both times, he is a god, im going to get him to the million pound mark. thats my goal

back in the day, at the start of my current game, i was managing Town. got em into the premiership too. Parkin left after 2 seasons, joined coventry  :| but 2 years later was back playing for my boys!!! still had grant smith, he's the key midfielder i find, 3 seasons in he becomes pretty much undroppable. scores loads.



cant remember who i ended up with, but pretty much it was smith, migs and parkin that were left after 5 seasons. Went to Sunderland, won the championship, in 3 successive seasons i won the league cup, FA cup, premiership and uefa cup double. then got sacked 6 months later  :evil: ended up at Espanyol, and am now England manager too  :soapy tit wank:

Got promoted in my first season, then offloaded Roberts to Norwich for £850,000. I've no idea why they wanted him, as they already had Ashton and Huckerby. Have now been midtable Championship team for a while.

Got bored a few weeks ago and had a fiddle with the data editor (big mistake, have now lost the original stats etc)and started a new game with my newly edited team. £259m for transfers, promoted first season, Parkin now worth £3m and scored 48 goals in 36 games. :oops:

When you've got a bit of money, have a look for these:
Hosain Kaebi -  Iranian teenager who plays right wing.
Francisco Pavon -  Honduran AM/Striker
Stephen Warnock, should be able to get him on season loan in League One.
Freddy Guarin - superb, DM only 18.

Parkin is immense on that game

Jillinum came in with the min release fee of £350k and he went just as i was getting promoted to championship :evil:

Parkins minimum release fee is a complete bastard on that game, 6-7 games into the season and Hull are always on the case. :twisted:

he got injured in my game, out for 3 months, i got him to sign a 5 year while his morale was low  :D

I tend to play LMA Manager because you can see the players, as in actual moving 3d etc

I signed Henderson for Hereford in the very first season for 7k, 2 years later i sold him for £250k plus add ons. I won the league thnaks to him and his headers.

Re: Parkin

When clubs start sniffing around offer him to them for £300k.  Then when they submit the bid tell them you want £900k or so and someone normally goes for it.

3-5-2 is ok for LG1 but i've found 4-4-2 better for the championship.

Tip, If you can get promoted in your first year, sign Freddy Adu. Offer him what ever he wants whilst he's 16. When he gets to 17, offer him what ever he wants and you have a class player who will do well or someone who you can cash in on. 5 Mill at the age of 18.

I currently have Migz valied at 1.8mill :D

Also look out for Anthony Lurling. If you can get him on a free in your second year he is an awesome winger.

I cannot believe some of you are not playing version 5.05!  Get with it people!

For those of you that don't know, every version of CM/FM since CM4 has been riddled with bugs on release, CM4 being the main culprit with the initial game being unplayable.  To solve this SI, the makers of the game, have released a series of patches - the latest for FM2005 being "5.05".  This also comes with a data update which includes the signings of Jenkins and Roberts.

Goto www.sigames.com - you can get player pics, backgrounds, skins etc.  Apologies to those of you who've got it but it's clear some don't, and this will vastly improve the game.

As for my own success, I've yet to finish a season on FM05 so err.... yeh  :P

Im on 5.0.5 as i like my game bug free. Try www.sortitoutsi.net for skins etc etc

Play Duke on the right wing using a 4-4-2, instruct him to play as a winger but place him in a fullback position (i.e. as he would in a 5-3-2), he ain't magnificent but he averages about 7.5 which will do until you can find a right winger who can do the biz.

Once you get promoted and you have the money buy Freddy Guarin from Envigada (Columbia) set his mentality to defensive, make him your #1 free kick taker and he can blast in the long shots. He is a bit pricey but he is WELL worth it, he is loyal as well and doesn't get the "I want to move to a bigger club attitude" He is only 19-20 as well.

omar daley is always a good tip, and freddy edu if you can get a work permit. also tried to get that jon obi mikel (or whatever his name is?) from nigeria but again, no work permit. there are some quality players to be found in africa if you send a scout out there (& can get work permits!)

winston bogarde is always available on a free at the start of the game & is a rock in defence.

made the mistake of signing adriano rigoglioso from doncaster, he's a quality player (AM/F) but always misses training & disrupts team spirit. trying to offload him at the moment.

had to sell parkin to wolves for £330k - he's now worth £3.3m sitting on their bench  :(

I'm currently using a 4-1-2-1-2 formation with the 2 midfielders playing as wingers, the attacking midfielder as a playmaker with a free role. I think tinkering with the individual tactics (i.e. for each player) works a treat.

please help. i can load fm 2005 ok but when i load the update disc it turns the language to czech and wont change back to english, anyone know how to stop this happening or am i going to have to buy a czech phrase book :cry:

Dunno whether you thought of this or not, might be silly to say. But i had the same problem and i just leave between £5m £10m in the bank till pre season and i can pay players loads in prem. can't remember exact figures but i know the club stop you paying certain players over set amount.

I had ricketts who was a stroppy twat once i got promoted and he wanted about 40k pw. The club would only allow me 22k so amusingly sold him back to Tottenham for over £5.5m (he cost 500k!). The club obviously didn't value ricketts as i pay one of my players over 40k and the club were gonna allow around 50k i think.

anyone know where i can get the most up to date transfer patch? i can't be bothered to change everyone that's moved since transfer deadline day and so far this pre season, and also can't be bothered to change the promotion/relegation

I have just got into this game again!! Downloaded the latest patch and started a game with Town. Got to the League Cup 4th round beating Bolton on pens. Lost 2-1 at home to Southampton, but made a fair bit of cash! Go to spurs away in the 3rd round of the FA Cup. Currently sitting 5th in the league but it is dead tight at the top.

Rhys is out for the season with a knee injury and I have just received bids of 1.5 million from Celtic and Bristol City !0!!??? for SSP,  wonder who he'll choose to sign for? I have a ready made replacement in a young Swedish striker called Berg who is banging them in for me!!

I am struggling badly in the Championship, changed formation so hopefully that will do the job! I can get out of League 1 fairly easily, but I ALWAYS struggle in the Championship, well gay! :evil:

Always use a simple 4-4-2 in the lower leagues/Championship.

fucking bollocks, got sacked from Espanyol, for fining 2 players who got sent off in a cup match, resulting in me going out of the spanish cup without reaching the semi's for the 1st time in 4 seasons. was sitting 5th in the league, keeping up with the leaders, but not at the top of the pile, so board got shitty.

Im currently 5th in The Championship with Q.P.R., Dave Kitson & Olisadebe are doing the biz up front with Zoltan Gera running the show in midfield.

i started as wolves recently...which was a toughie cos i hate them.

and i bought SSP. top scorer half way through the game and i've only dropped points twice by drawing at derby (2nd) and rotherham (cough*bottom few*cough)

and this hasn't been a case of "hmmmmmm fucking bastard game!!!!" clicks to quit game.

it has to be said. i'm either on the net or playing FM05 tho so i like to think i've paid my dues to having a good run in my first season.
