Title: No Loyalty in Football Post by: stfcinbmth on Friday, January 14, 2011, 17:24:03 With the Charlie saga upper most in our minds, it appears that AFCB have their own problems with manager Eddie Howe. After stating on Tuesday, after turning down Crystal Palace that "He's going nowhere for the forseeable future" On Friday it seems the forseeable future was rather short and he's heading off to Burnley

Title: Re: No Loyalty in Football Post by: REDBUCK on Friday, January 14, 2011, 17:31:56 Sadly "stfcinbmth" your holding on to a vision of the game that has long since departed
Title: Re: No Loyalty in Football Post by: Barry Scott on Friday, January 14, 2011, 17:36:57 Exactly football's different nowadays. A club will drop a manager quicker than a hot coal, so why shouldn't a manager drop a club with similar haste. I blame the Internet.
Title: Re: No Loyalty in Football Post by: stfcinbmth on Friday, January 14, 2011, 17:42:45 Sadly, REDBUCK and Barry, you are absolutely spot on. I consider it rather sad
Title: Re: No Loyalty in Football Post by: Frigby Daser on Friday, January 14, 2011, 17:44:23 The wage differences were different back then too. A similar move to Morrison's in the early 90s gets him a few more pennies, but the main attraction was better football. Now he doubles or trebles his wages. I'd do exactly the same. Blame Rupert Murdoch and man's inability to do anything imaginative with a Sunday afternoon....me being a guilty party.
Title: Re: No Loyalty in Football Post by: Ardiles on Friday, January 14, 2011, 17:50:07 There's no loyalty in accountancy either. Or bricklaying, catering and chartered surveying.
Honestly, a footballer trying to maximise his earnings and improve his standard of living...what ever next? Title: Re: No Loyalty in Football Post by: pauld on Friday, January 14, 2011, 17:53:55 There's no loyalty in accountancy either. Yeah, accountancy's all about the money these days :)Title: Re: No Loyalty in Football Post by: stfcinbmth on Friday, January 14, 2011, 17:58:29 There's no loyalty in accountancy either. Or bricklaying, catering and chartered surveying. Honestly, a footballer trying to maximise his earnings and improve his standard of living...what ever next? There's loyalty in printing. Just before the compay I worked for went under, I had an offer to go and work somewhere else. Just goes to show what a deluded twat I am. So yeah, you can't tar everybody with the same brush Ardiles Title: Re: No Loyalty in Football Post by: OOH! Title: Re: No Loyalty in Football Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Friday, January 14, 2011, 19:38:22 Don't get me wrong, I think it's a total piss off but you can't really blame managers for moving on when they have the opportunity when it's such a cut-throat business.
Title: Re: No Loyalty in Football Post by: DMR on Friday, January 14, 2011, 19:39:41 Loyalty's got fuck all to do with anything in cases like this- he's not going to a rival or a club at the same level, it's a huge step up so why should he stay put?
Title: Re: No Loyalty in Football Post by: leefer on Friday, January 14, 2011, 19:41:54 Loyalty's got fuck all to do with anything in cases like this- he's not going to a rival or a club at the same level, it's a huge step up so why should he stay put? Because without Bournemouth he might still be doing a bit of gardening...i hope he fails miserably. Title: Re: No Loyalty in Football Post by: Spencer_White on Friday, January 14, 2011, 19:56:45 The saddest thing is that people move around so much in football now that they dont get to finnish what they have started.
3 months of good form is enough to get a manager a job at a higher level. Title: Re: No Loyalty in Football Post by: DMR on Friday, January 14, 2011, 19:57:41 As in every other job in the world, if you are successful in your current role, you deserve a chance to try your hand at the next level up.

Correct....but Bournemouth have/had every chance of being there......the main gripe to fans is that he publicly stated he was staying for the foreseable future....three days :D Title: Re: No Loyalty in Football Post by: pauld on Friday, January 14, 2011, 20:41:54 Maybe he can't foresee very far?
Title: Re: No Loyalty in Football Post by: tans on Friday, January 14, 2011, 21:13:59 Bournmuff scored and ran straight to eddie howe
He was shedding a tear or two i think Title: Re: No Loyalty in Football Post by: joteddyred on Friday, January 14, 2011, 21:24:02 Has he not gone to Burnley then or is this his last game in charge?
Bournemuth have sold both Pitman and McQuoid but have still managed to consistently be up near the top all season. Fair play to them, I hope they don't tumble if Howe does go. Title: Re: No Loyalty in Football Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Friday, January 14, 2011, 21:37:31 Thing is they have hardly helped have they having to sell his best players. To be fair he has turned down some very good offers so has been loyal in that respect. For all we know he may have had a chat with the chaiman established they were not going to buy players and feels he can't take them any further.
Fwiw i think he is a top manager or at least will be and probably one of the only league managers who genuinly deserves this chance. |
