I used to be able to do it, now I can't for some reason.

Oh wait, yes I can.
I see a field of smarties and a chess board!

Did you know, Youtube has an option for you to do this to be able to view videos in 3D.

Takes a bit of time to get your eyes used to it, but once you've 'trained' them you can pretty much instantly get the correct focus.

I have never ever been able to do these - but I still waste a lot of time trying!!

Stare at the centre of the picture and let your eyes cross slightly then slowly uncross them but staying focussed, when you get it they can be seen virtualy instantly although your eyes do feel a little unnatural while veiwing them.

Like that!  It was a craze, all right.  Brilliant if you can do them, not brilliant if you can't.  My technique is to go cross eyed, and then allow your eyes to relax as they refocus.

Thanks for that - still not working for me - probably permanently crossed-eyed now though!!

Keep trying!  It will work when your left eye settles on a part of the image that is adjacent to the part of the image that your right eye has settled on.  Because both parts are nearly identical, your brain thinks that both eyes are looking at the same thing...which produces the 3D effect.  Same theory as 3D cinema/TV.

I used to be able to do these instantly when I was a kid. Now I can't do them at all. I'm not sure how I'll ever live with losing this skill.

I have spent literally hours looking at them using every technique possible.

My left eye is not perfect vision. But my right eye is OK. I put it down to that.

Me too.

I also used to be able to fold my eyelids inside out, fold the tips of my ears into my inner ear and do armpit farts.

I can't do any of this stuff any more.

I can still juggle though  :toocool:

A load of garish blue and green knitting or material. And I think that is all it will ever look like to me.

I do it by putting my nose on the screen and focusing on the screen and slowly pull away still keeping my eyes focused.

Easy   :(

What a waste of time and energy. If you want to see a picture of a skiier, google images of skiiers, much quicker and better pictures too.

(And no, I can't fucking see a skiier)

Post by: @MacPhlea on Tuesday, January 11, 2011, 18:12:15
I can see the skier  but use a slightly different tactic of imagining that I am pushing the picture away with my eyes, sounds weird but what I mean is looking at the picture and forcing my focus to behind the picture as if I am looking 3-4 inches behind/through it

never been able to do them properly...i think its down to my colour blindness, I can get a vague shape out of them and because you said the top on was a shark i could just about make it out.
Cant see anything in the chess one, and like fuck can i see a skier :-p

The chess board just becomes 3D. It's pretty cool once you see it.

I've been doing it too much and now I'm seeing double when trying to view things normally.

Don't worry, it's not a skill. If you can see them it means you're a retard.

Very good.

Not as good as the actual 3d pictures tho ;)

I must admit when I first looked at them back in the 90's I couldnt see fuck all in them but after a few days I got them and now can see them pretty much instantly, worth persevering!
