Post by: The_Plagiarist on Saturday, January 1, 2011, 18:59:07

Any truth in the rumour that ALANNNNN!!!! is on £3k per week?

I don't know about 3 grand. Judging from where he came from, his playing background before us and general all round appearance though, I would guess he's far from the lowest earner in the squad.

I've heard a rumour that Pericard is the highest earner in the squad, though I expect that to be bollocks

I am led to believe Douglas is top earner, or he certainly was last season anyway.

Both O'Brien and Pericard are supposedly on more than Charlie, which must be a complete piss off and another reason why he'll leave in January!  Cut our wage bill and get rid of them both, they won't be missed.

Alan O'Brien has been an unfortunate failure. He's the sort of squad player we need to get rid of as he's offered barely anything since joining.

If he's on 2.5k a week ( and I don't doubt it ) then how the fuck can we move him on. He can only go down a league or two and nobody's going to pay his wages. I'm afraid he'll sit his contract out unless we offer to pay a huge part of his weekly wage. Also any new club will need to have some new hamstrings knocking around.

Could we possibly make taking him a condition of any potential Austin deal?

It's not much of an excuse, but we didn't we get him for free which would mean he got a higher wage than he would have done otherwise.

Anyone have any idea how much prutton is on?

I heard £4k per week today.

He struts around like he's on £5k a week so I don't know what to believe  :crash:

Does a man earning 5k a week have a much bigger swagger than one on 4k?

yeah, more cash in his pocket makes him swagger more.

I don't care how much players earn, it's never interested me.

Football is an unusual business - David Prutton once cost £2.5million. Go figure.

That might make him the highest ever single transfer fee to play for STFC....excluding loans...would like to think about other candidates, but brain has gone into some post NYE alcoholic meltdown, so nothing happening.

Tuffy.....while you are on here Reg you may be able to help me.
Seems(my programs stating it)that the Town End was the West Stand untill 1970ish.

Was it an official change naming it the Town End....or just a general saying by fans that stuck...hope you get my drift.

Town End has always been the TE as far as I'm concerned...before that the Hotel End.

Strange.....all the progs up till 1970 have it down as the West Stand...oh well just wondering.

Can you give an example of its use in the prog...I've just plucked a random prog from 1959 in front of my nose and find no such reference....this caught my attention though from the Supporter's Club notes

" A supporter informs us that he intends to "hitch hike" to Chesterfield to next Saturday's match and thought we should welcome the news for publicity purposes.

However much this mode of transport might have been justified in emergencies, by Servicemen, let us say immediately we deplore it for pleasure purposes, and feel that, if anyone desires an excursion, he should pay for it or stay at home, and not impose on the goodwill of others.

We do not care whether he reaches Chesterfield or not, nor if he gets back to Swindon, but we trust that, if he is able to reach the ground there, he will at least pay for admission to the natch, and not give a wrong impression  of Swindon supporters generally, by endeavouring to get a complimentary ticket.

However much they grumble, football supporters are usually willing to pay at the turnstiles without question and in the case of Swindon, they are usually willing to contribute to our half time collection. Once again though we would mention that we have no use for the apple cores and and orange peel still being thrown into the sheets , and shall be grateful if supporters will refrain fromthis display of "doubtful humour"
