I knew I shouldn't but I looked. There are some bona fide idiots on there without a doubt. "DW has lost the plot" etc etc, unbelievable, it's a non league striker ffs. I can only assume there is a shortage of straight jackets around swindon, which is allowing these planks to type.

I don't understand how people can judge him (JC) as being brilliant (or bad or average) without even seeing him play! It all seems based on some guy on the internet said he was good and he scored a few in one game against the reserves???

Q. Who was the last success we signed directly from non-league before Austin?

I've no idea, and JC may again buck the trend and be a hit. But surely people can see the odds are against it hence the reluctance to outlay large sums over a long period to find out.

I agree but at the same time why are Orient prepared to take that risk? I suppose they are chancing it and hoping to un earth the next Austin!

There doesn't seem to be a lot of evidence that they are. It seems like everything about contract offers etc is coming from mysterious internet sources and the blokes dad. Sounds like an attempt to make us up our offer for a non league striker who might be ok, but might also be complete gash.

Well if we could have had him 2 months ago we would have. Simple as that. We didn't waste any time with Charlie so for me it doesn't sound like we are really that bothered by this lad.

Think you'd probably need to go back to Colin Gordon....and to a lesser extent Brian Wade.

Gordon....has proved himself rather better at football agency, than playing.  Maybe John Campbell should consider doing the same.

Colin Gordon was utter shit. I can't believe he had as long a playing career as he did, at a relatively high level for such a complete donkey. As you say though, he has carved a very nice little niche as an agent. He represents some top names I believe.

Phil Smith has at least carved out a league career with us.

Hamdi Razak scored in every single reserve game I saw him play in, which was a fair few.

65 goals in 150 appearances sugests to me a donkey he wasn't.
Of course he was not a great player...but he did a lot for Swindon Town at a time when we were at a low ebb.

Gordon was a decent striker, and at the time one of our best players, which though to be honest wasn't that hard.

Colin Gordon was fucking good, very good goal scorer and excellent at leading the line no way was he shit.

Have to agree Colin Gordon did alright for us. We picked him up for nowt and sold him to Wimbledon in the Prem for £100k. We've had a lot worse than Gordon playing up front for us.
