Title: Britain's second city Post by: oakleigh2010 on Monday, December 27, 2010, 13:43:21 A reporter goes to Birmingham and interviews a local asking him: 'which is Britain's second city'. The local replies: 'well, it's Brum aint it. Lots of industry, second biggest population and very central'.
The reporter goes to Manchester and asks the same question. The Manc replies: 'it's Manchester pal - a hotbed of sport and music'. When the reporter goes to Liverpool and asks there, the scouse lad says: 'Britain's second city whack? It's London!'. Title: Re: Britain's second city Post by: oakleigh2010 on Monday, December 27, 2010, 14:18:25 The West Midlands football geography interests me. There is the rivalry between Aston Villa and Birmingham City; also between West Brom and Wolves, but aren't Aston Villa and WBA the nearest geographically?
The number of Villa fans in the Gloucestershire area e.g. Stroud, Tetbury, Ciren was explained to me once as the 'M5 factor' because of the good links to Brum from that area. This is something STFC should address as that should be our natural catchemnt area (assuming Chelt get relegated and Forest Green don't get into the League). I can't believe Fitton hasn't come up with the idea of making us more attractive to watch than Villa. This board needs to take a good look at themselves if we're "losing" fans from the Cheltenham area to small clubs like Villa. The number of Villa fans in the Gloucestershire area e.g. Stroud, Tetbury, Ciren was explained to me once as the 'M5 factor' because of the good links to Brum from that area.
