Calderwood was holding their management together, as soon as he left for Hibs it fell apart.

A very poor decision by the board, but then again they have a track record of poor choices.

It beggars belief - his replacement will be sacked before the end of the season (or it'll Joe Kinnear)

Since calderwood took over at hibs newcastle have won at west ham and arsenal, drew with chelsea and dicked sunderland 5-1. I'd suggest calderwoods presence made fuck all difference

Ha ha. That's ace. Mid table in the Prem after going up and they sack Hughton. They really are fucking deluded aren't they? They had a bit of stability and he was doing a decent job. It will be interesting to see who gets the job - any decent manager shouldn't go anywhere near it.

My comment was more based upon the fact that with Calderwood there they had never let in more than 3 in a game, since he left they let in 4 at home to the Arse and let in 5 at Bolton.

But they did score 5 at home to Sunderland, which was a fantastic result in all honesty.

Did the board expect them to be challenging the top 4? Hughton has done a great job.

Martin O'Neill will get that job.

The same Martin O'Neill that left Villa because they would not invest any money in new players and insisted he sell players to break even, can't see Newcastle exactly appealling as they are the same as Villa but invest even less in players.

Title: Re: Chris Hughton
Post by: Peter Venkman on Monday, December 6, 2010, 18:27:31
If Ashley wants to appease the fans then he is the only choice, if however he wishes to totally piss off the fans the it will be Pardew.

I just have a sneaky feeling he will break the bank and go for O'Neill and give him the funds he wants too.

Mad decision. Stick by him when the fans didn't want him, they finally warm to the guy and then he sacks him? Fucking mental, Ashley wouldn't act any differently if he was deliberately trying to antagonize the fans.

If Pardew gets the job I'll be even more convinced: This is a man who decided that Hayden Mullins and Marlon Harewood should play ahead of Mascherano and Tevez...

Danny Simpson, Mike Williamson, Wayne Routledge and Leon Best were all signed start of the year and not in the summer with the view to helping them get promoted.

So based on your intial list they signed 2 permanent signings (Perch and Tiote) for a total of £4.7 million and a loan signing (Ben Arfa) at £2 million.  So a total of £6.7 million to keep a squad of championship players in the premiership, the job Chris Hughton was doing was excellent and Mike Ashley has made a crazy decision sacking him.

But the original post was not saying they wouldn't give Jol any money (although if they do, it's a bit bloody much as they told Hughton there wouldn't be any available to him) but that they couldn't (or wouldn't) afford to pay him what he'd want, never mind anyone he might want to sign

According to media reports (Telegraph Sports) Newcastle are prepared to offer Pardew a simply
ridiculous contract offer....

"It is understood that a five-and-a-half year deal is on the table for the 49 year-old Pardew who has been out of work since he was sacked by League One side Southampton and will have his work cut out to win over fans and players alike judging by the reaction to Hughton's sacking".

The Newcastle soap opera continues unabated.

Title: Re: Chris Hughton

If that's true then you couldn't blame Pardew for taking the job! 5 1/2 years pay would make it well worth while...

66 months pay for being sacked after 18 if he doesn't live up to expectations? Can't be bad surely!

Obviously working Gateshead, I work with loads of Newcastle fans.

To be honest I think Pardew is a reasonable manager, who was really unlucky to be shafted by the board at Southampton. However, what I can't understand is how Ashley judges him to be a significant enough step up in quality Hughton. I would have placed them as roughly on a par.

Title: Re: Chris Hughton
Post by: Lumps on Thursday, December 9, 2010, 20:45:01
I guess there's some rationale for it. Ashley has, it's claimed, decided that there needs to be a long term strategy for the development of the club, with a decent youth set-up, and intent to bring through their own players. If that's the case you need to give the manager the reassurance that he's not about to get binned off, to stop him from acting in ways just to get short term results so he doesn't get sacked.

He'll still sack him within 18 months mind 'cause he's a twat.

I would suspect that there are some quite serious clauses in the contract that allow them to get rid of him for very little if they want to!

The more I read about Ashley the more it is obvious that there must be someone very clever in the background at Sports Direct to make all the money - he doesnt seem to have the brains to run a bath on his own!

???

Of course he isn't. To be fair, Southampton would have made the play offs if it wasn't for the 10 point deduction.

Bizzare apppointment though, 5 year contract?! Ashley doesn't have a clue.

He managed to ruin Charlton.

I cant stand him. Full of shit.

He managed to ruin Charlton.

I would have thought the blame for that was more Iain Dowies. Getting relegated from the Prem, and the massive exodus of players that resulted was what screwed them, and they were on the brink of that by the time Pardew took over at the end December. 12 points by Christmas has relegation written all over it.

He's only ever achieved moderate success when allowed to spend massive amounts of money by chairmen.

He had a rediculous budget to get Reading out of League 1 and really struggled. Coppell had about the same budget and made them runnaway champions of the 2nd tier.

He's had big budgets at Reading and Southampton and under performed massively.  At Charlton he did nothing, but was shown up by Phil Parkinson after he left.

Let's remember he spent neatly a million on Fonte and Lambert last year, plus money on Barnard and Puncheon - and still couldn't get them up.  How much did we spend when we laboured our way to Wembley??

Pardew isn't the worst manager on the planet but he offers very little more and possibly more importantly, doesn't enthuse the fanbase.

It's like sacking Danny Wilson to appoint Mark McGhee.

Thing for me with CH is they've got nowhere to go - it can't jump a fence, and is never going to beat Big Bucks over staying hurdles races.

Never mind, I was given a tip yesterday (Lush Life, won 8/1), and managed to back the wrong horse in the wrong fucking race.

I backed Monetary fund and the bastard was 4th.

Same trainer, same jockey, wrong race and wrong horse. What a Cunt!!

I don't know whether you're misrepresenting things to support your argument, or just genuinely don't know what you're talking about, but his record at Reading was:
Play off final loser (Old 3rd Div what ever it was called that year)
Automatic promotion (Old 3rd Div what ever it was called that year)
4th place - lost in play off semi (Old 2nd Div / 1st Div / Championship)

At West Ham:
Play off final defeat
Play off winner
9th in the Prem & FA Cup finalists

I'd take that sort of struggling at Town frankly

And he didn't have stupid money to spend at either. Madjewski never spent stupid money, and the biscuit man waited 'til Curbishly was in charge to flush his cash down the toilet.

He did get to spend a good wedge on Butler from what I remember, but it was hardly a mad multi million pound spending spree.
