Brilliant write up mate, you seem to know your stuff. Only one mistake; Paul Caddis is not on loan, we bought him and Simon Ferry this summer for an undisclosed six figure sum.

ESPN also said Caddis was on loan during the Crawley game.

Having worked with a Sheffield Wednesday fan and having been taken to 2 Sheffield derby matches I think I know this.

Wednesday fans call United fans Piggies (for whatever reason) hence the Pork reference. At the match I went to there were thousands of inflatable pigs released by the Wednesday fans. Not sure what the Blades refer the Wednesday fans as.

Think that is correct.

Agreed - excellent write-up. Damn sight better than we'll get in the local paper.

One other small mistake though - QPR also won the League Cup as a third division side, in 1967.

They both call each other pigs I think. It's all a bit inbred, though that's typical of the north in general

....and here's another Wednesday version of the day...beware though...it's long and you won't get this time back..

http://owlsalive.com/RamblesSwindonAway.html (http://owlsalive.com/RamblesSwindonAway.html)

Since this I just wanted to say thank you to whoever handed my wallet in at the club.
It's a night mare losing something like this, canceling cards etc.etc but someone handed it back and it's being posted to me right now.

If I hadn't been in a bad mood from the start I could have taken a totally different tack with this game and the visit to your place.

Everyone I met was very friendly, car park dude, turnstile lad, stewards, shop woman, ballboy...usually I'm in a better frame of mind for footy days and in an upbeat mood...this day didn't go well from start to finish. (As you'll see if you read the ramble)

Anyway...well done on the win and thanks to whoever it was that handed me wallet in

Aye, I was at the side of him mate...how can ya not applaud a goal like that?

I don't care who you support when you see good skill, it's just that, good skill.
We all want our teams to win and we all watch our fair share of crap footy but when you see the good stuff, for or against you, you have to love it.

We applauded the saves from Lucas too.

Disappointed with the result for us, obviously, but the game of football in those conditions was pretty good and any neutral watching it would have enjoyed it I'm sure.

Very good read Beastie, enjoyed that a lot.

Good to see a non-biased away representation. As a Wednesday fan you could have felt hard done by with the offside goal, smith potential red card etc. However you barely mentioned this and concentrated on the match itself. Fair play for the numbers of Wednesday fans that travelled, brilliant effort bearing in mind the terrible weather.

Oh and please win the league (as we won't) or finish higher up than Southampton as I have a bet on with my dad!

No point in banging on about the 'red card/keeper thing' mate, none at all.
If he'd gone off Lucas would still have come on and he'd still have kept us out, I'm sure of that.

We couldn't see the offside decision from where were behind the goal so no point in ranting about it is there?
Having seen it on telly since I can understand why it was given even though Morrison isn't actually interfering...he is in the way of the keeper...one of those decisions that sometimes you get, sometimes you don't.

No chance of us winning the league though  :) We just aren't good enough at the moment

Quite agree, but there are a lot of whinging football fans who do 'bang on' about it, so its nice to hear.

Tango man is the topless fella at the front of the uncovered stand right?

That's him mate yes.

We all have our moments with the whinging don't we?
Me as much as anyone....more than anyone some might say  :)

I'd have loved this game to have been in summer and I'm sure the whole day (Especially my mood) if not the result would have been totally different. There's loads to love about your ground, a good mix of old and new and I always love visiting the South West. Standing on an open ended terrace in the sunshine is as good as it gets at football IMVHO.

Then there's a great Wendesday connection with Lucas, McGovern and of course Danny Wilson....

If I wasn't such a grumpy old northern bastard I would have enjoyed it more anyway....

This was my first visit to your place and I hope it isn't my last...though I'd prefer it if we were both in a higher division.

That was a great write-up Beastie. You have my sympathy with the car park stewards - they've changed them this season and the new ones are, erm, sub-optimal to say the least.

Nice mention of the kids' game at half-time too - my lad was playing in that game and the reaction they got from the Wednesday (and Swindon) fans made their day, all of them. Several of them said it felt like they were playing in a "proper match", with the stands on both sides oohing, aahing and applauding. Thought it showed real class.

Hope you enjoy the rest of the season (apart from the 25th April) a bit more.

Good read that. I really though Wednesday would be up there this year, they still might be.

Do you think you've been affected by all the off-field stuff?

My view used to be that they are professional footballers, they come to work and no matter what happens it shouldn't affect them. After all, if the club folds they should find another club easily anyway....

However, I've had to change that view as the more I thought about it the more I thought, well, if it was me, I'd still be worried about it and it isn't that easy for players to find another club, playing at the same level, plus they'd have to uproot their families again, some after a very short while here and the whole uncertainty of going into work and not knowing who would be in charge or even if there was anything to be in charge of...it simply has to get inside your head doesn't it?

Since this started to come to a head the players have started doing the pre kick off huddle...they didn't do this before...to me that shows a bit of solidarity, a bit of togetherness through what has definitely been a difficult time for everyone...from the boardroom to the terrace.

Again, I've always been of the mind...it'll never happen to us...a couple of weeks ago when we were in court and awaiting news...I had my first ever 'It REALLY could be us' moment...where I thought my club could actually cease to exist....I've never experienced anything like that and it was the same for loads of Wednesday fans.

I was hanging on every twitch on Twitter, scanning teletext, news reports, anything with a scrap of info...it was akin to having a relative that's seriously ill in another country and you're powerless to do anything about it.

I wouldn't wish any of this on anyone, whoever they are...I've always been one that supports clubs in crisis, I've been on fan days to grounds to help with cash, donated cash, bought seats at ground, all that sort of stuff, because if we as fans can't stick together when we're needed the most, then this game truly has gone to hell in a handbasket....I'd do the same for the two I hate most in the world, The Blades and Leeds...stuff like this goes beyond the usual 'fan/club hatred'. (IMVHO)

I digress a little...my point is that it must have affected the players...it affected us all.

Hopefully we're out of it now and a bright future lays ahead.

Apologies for the rant/ramble

You put a smile on my miserable Monday face reading that write up. Nice one.

Always had great games and times against Wednesday. Even supported you at Poxford one game.

Anyway as an old fart (not many Swindon fans believe me) as in a previous post mentioning Tango Man. He is nothing compared to the legend "Sammy" - "we'd walk a million miles for one of your smiles ohh Sammy."

Happy times..........is he dead or alive ? Mixed responses from the Wednesdayites.

I don't mate TBH and the horrible truth is, even if I'd gone to every game with him back then my memory is so shit I wouldn't remember anyway.

Part of the reason I do the rambles is to remind me of what happened....When my Young Un gets in the car I always look at her like I've never seen her before, she sees that daft look of confusion on my face and says 'You're daughter! I'm your youngest daughter ya daft old git!'

Everyone on our forum (Owls Alive) knows how bad my memory and navigation skills are and rib me mercilessly about both.

Will take your word for it Mate (Thank your contact).
My memory must be shit hot as I will never forget that face as long as I live.

Get him back for the home game and I want to see him up on those shoulders. Sadly the last time I saw him at Swindon he was taken out by the Old Bill at halftime and got a shower of coins as they marched him past the Town End. Probably retired with his collection.

He was one scary fucker that one and as you can see made an impression on a kid all of those many years back.
"Sammy we'll walk a million miles for one of your smiles ohh Sammy"

Rumour has it that home fans would taunt the Wednesday about capturing Sammy, then up he would go again on the shoulders being past round the Wednesday crowd on the shoulders like a modern day flag.................Football was better in those days lad aye.
