Title: Crawley Town vs Swindon Town Official Matchday Thread
Post by: Coca Fola on Friday, November 26, 2010, 00:09:58
I've got a feeling this is gonna end up 2-2, with Dossevi and Austin the goalscorers.

Keep the faith. In Fola we trust.

Earliest matchday thread ever?

Have to say I'd take a draw and a CG replay.

I have no idea if we'll win 3-0, draw 3-3 or lose 3-0.

I'm going for a repeat of the 4-3 win a few years back. My main concern at  the moment is if there will be anything to grab for a half time piss.

That said I haven't been to an away game this season (plastic fuck yes) so can't comment on our showings at notts county and rochdale but I'm sure we've got enough in our team to put a non league team to the sword.

They'll bring the game to us and we'll take them apart on the counter.

fancy a few goals but we're in the hat for round 3 at the end of it! I hope

Well I'm getting increasingly nervous about this one. Going to be heading down to Ashton-under-Lyne to meet my Dad and bro at their local and confuse a few idiot united fans by screaming at the telly for an hour and a half and what they will see as some inconsequential lower league game. It's a poor state of affairs when we're not confident of beating Crawley in the cup though.

After all, the signs pointed to win against Rochdale and Notts County.

Come on Town.

You know what, you saying something good like that is just what I need, because that's clearly half the trouble. There's so much pessimism on this forum of late, my eternal optimism is being dampened by a brute force attack of: "this is shit", "we're shit", "Wilson out", "Charlie's leaving", "[insert name] is shit." :D  :beers:

Lucas, Lecs Sheehan, Amankwaah and Dossevi amongst the subs. Glad to see Caddis actually playing right back, if we're going to pay decent money for him he needs a run.

The midfield are not performing at all so the defence is shipping too much pressure,  We should be passing around and showing a bit of class.  Before anyone else says it McGovern isn't Douglas and now we're up against it because they'll start shitting their pants in defence.  To let that ex-Salisbury twat score is a sickener

I'm disappointed at how poor we looked for the entire game. Struggled to put 2 passes together. All a bit hoof ball. Little creativity, little threat up front and lots of hope that the ball would fall to Austin or Morrison from a set piece.

Should have buried a couple in the first half, but considering it was a potential banana-skin i'm glad to get a replay.

Bit of a shitter that Crawley had 2 chances and scored with one of them, so I guess that was why Tubbs was MOTM.

For once lets all look at the positives (if we dare).
We didn't get spanked! thats the main thing, potential banana skin avoided after a truly bad week
We should have our first choice rightback and captain available for the replay
We are in the hat!
If we get a good draw the replay will more than likely be shown on tv again so more cash there

League is where it's at right? We're not going to win the F.A. Cup: This is a distraction.

Pretty dire game to be honest.  We should have been leading at half time (how many times have we heard that this season?), but after taking the lead failed to hold on to it (how many times have we heard that this season as well?)

Not enough football played and again we were short of ideas.  Glad not to have been beaten, but as Charlie mentioned the replay is an additional game we could do without.

Oh and final point, Steve Evans looks like a dodgy used car salesman!

The gaps between midfield and upfront were alarming.

Pericard and Austin played too far apart from eachother as well.

Defence did well, Crzawley didnt look like scoring and it took a super goal for them to get a goal

People need to gain perspective. We played shit on Tuesday, and for the third time in a week had to travel away from home. Add to this that it was against a non-league side on a friday night, in front of the tv cameras on a freezing evening/pitch, I think 1-1 is a fair result.

We didn't play particularly well but I think we did enough to win it. But to be fair their goal was very well taken and it's a bit of a kick in the teeth.

We're still in the cup though, after Tuesday's performance, most were expecting to be knocked out and more doom and gloom. At least thats been put off for 10 days.

Title: Re: Crawley Town vs Swindon Town Official Matchday Thread
Post by: Langers on Friday, November 26, 2010, 22:58:43
Just got back thanks to the M23 being closed northbound, lovlely!

We were pretty poor and tbh i am pretty happy with a draw.

First half we were the better team and were unlucky not to go in ahead. The pitch was a difficult one to play on with players sliding all over the palce. We played far too much hoofball and never got our passing game going.

Second half, they came into a bit more and started to get behind us a bit. We still look shakey at the back but I thought it helped having Scotty back in the middle. Austin took his goal well after a long period of pressure but onece again we cannot hold out for the win.

Overall, we all knew it was going to be tricky, being the FA cup n'all. Im very happy with a draw, we rode our luck at time but went to a tricky place, played against a good team and got a good draw, also means we are in the draw and if its a big tie, it should motivate the players for the replay.

Also, not sure what happened but before the game (about 6:30) there was a sudden rush of people to dugouts where they started trying to resusitate someone (possibly a steward). Not sure what happened after that as they put up boards to cover the scene. Did they mention anything on tele?

It was also the coldest i have ever been. Anywhere. Also saw Jon Barnes and Lou Macari which was nice.

Seeing someone get chased across the road and rugby talked to the floor by the police after the game was also quite amusing.

So yeh, good result and we have every chance of beating them at the CG and hopefully getiing a good third round tie.

Sorry chaps there is a lot of negative comments regarding the match....now i have had a few beers but i was pleased in the main.
Cuthbert and Morrison were outstanding..Pericard and Austin look good also.
For me though the midfield let us down....JPM,Prutton and Timlin just didn't get going though they did work hard,
Good result for me and i for one is looking forward to the draw on Sunday.

Yeh first half we were ok. 2nd half wasn't so good, but you wouldn't believe how cold it was, can't have been easy to play out there, the pitch was freezing over before our eyes. Good turnout from our fans. Dont believe the official figures, there were guys selling comps for a tenner in the half moon that would have counted as home tickets. Not a bad ground at alloverall , and the bogs were lovely and warm. Stewards let us out for a half time fag so top marks there also. minus marks for letting their little chavvy boys to one end, they'll need to learn a lesson there if they go up, and the catering although the effort was there 2 people in what was really an indoor hot dog stand won't cut it either. All in all though pretty good, been to far worse grounds certainly at league teams.

I put a fiver on crawley winning, as a safey net. this was the worst result

the 4 in midfield were wank, as were morrison and rose. we deserved to win over the full 90, but we just cannot defend. tubbs figured out morrison and rose are awful - play inbetween them and pick up all the lovely free space of grass

oh well. we SHOULD win the replay. whether we will or not is a different matter.

Finally, wtf has ferry done to piss wilson off. Timlin seems like a lovelly fella, and I can't faul his effort. But he is frankly not good enough. Ferry gives a billion% everytime he plays, yet isd on th bench because of the cockney mick. sort it out danny

Its a good result. It was all set up for a Crawley win and we didn't oblige. I thuoght we were the better team over 90 mniutes and created more chances. I don't think either team played well but its a Cup tie on a freezing cold Friday night in front of the cameras.
I thuoght Prutton played well and was my MOM. He was about the only player who was challenging on the edge of their box and his header led to our goal. Ritchie had a good first half.
Now the negatives. JPM didn't turn up last night - a couple of decent crosses and a couple of crap crosses. It was a bad day at the office for him and he has not looked very good this season. Now for the 2 chances they had - where was Rose? Do his free kicks and occasional class cross outweigh that defensively he really is bad?
I'm happy to be in the draw and hopefully we can finish the job off at the CG.
Oh and Steve Evans really is a cunt.

If they slip up on form, give other players a chance.

^^ as said i watched it on TV and thought we played ok.

It was all set up for a cup upset but we stuck too it and got through what was a tough tie.
Crawley are no mugs and are doing well in the conference.

only two players for me who were poor was Prutton and Rose.

My team for next week would either have Duggie in for Prutton or Play Ferry instead with Timlin as the holding player. then obviously Sheehan at left back.

I'm a realist (TM DV85 circa 2006).

Tbf, the reason the midfield looked so lost was because both sides seemed intent to miss out on them for the majority of the game. Our delivery into the box was woefull though - Mcgovern needs a long hard look at himself. Fair enough if Timlins been playing well, I've not been to the recent away games so can't comment, then yeah he deserves his place to start. But when you have a player of ferrys quality, and you aren't exactly blowing the opposition away as we were last night, then why give him 3 minutes? Whats he got to do to get a place.

Morrisons started believing his own hype, and Rose only plays for his set pieces.

Like has been said though, a draw isn't the worst result in the world and on another day we would have won that by a couple. At least we're in the hat, and we should do 'em on our turf

That was ok. Awful surface to try and play football on and it only got worse as the night wore on.

Thought Vince did really well, alot was sticking to him and he laid it off to a player in black more often than not. Charlie took his goal well and our CBs were pretty solid throughout. Couldn't get anything going in midfield and JPM looked to have one of his poorest games for a while.

Great finish from Tubbs.

Title: Re: Crawley Town vs Swindon Town Official Matchday Thread
Post by: Bob's Orange on Saturday, November 27, 2010, 10:52:46
Thought Tubbs looked a useful striker, forced one excellent save from Smith and his finish was top class. Worth a punt perhaps?

Almost no football played last night, conditions weren't really suited for flowing football and we were dragged into a scrap. Thought Pericard held the ball up well but more often than not had bugger all to give it to and was forced to play it back a lot. Thought Austin looked sharp and took his chance well. Nobody else 'shone' for me.

Still, we still have a chance to progress and we'll be in the draw tomorrow.

Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Saturday, November 27, 2010, 12:13:17
Dissapointed with the performance but not so much with the result. I think in some ways we set our stall out to try and play for a draw at times and that really restricted them. We didn't really let them play which was a positive thing I guess. If we had done that we'd have been hammered or at least lost the game.

I thought the front 2 were OK. Didn't do much wrong. Charlie took his goal well. We had chances to score in the first half that really should have been taken to be honest. Charlie with that one that Kuipers saved from the cross and the Ritchie shot that hit the post then hit the back of the keeper and then the post again before going out and wasn't even given as a corner. Couldn't believe that decision.

Other than that though it was pretty poor from us. Can someone tell Caddis that everytime he gets the ball at RB he doesn't have to hoof it? For me there was too much hoof from the full backs and centre backs and the midfield was never in the game. We didn't see any runs from Prutton because he barely had the ball. I think there was only really 1 or 2 good moves that we showed when we got the ball down and passed across the midfield. We need to do it more. Other than being pleased we avoided the banana skin (for now at least anyway) I didn't really see much from us that would warrant getting my hopes up that we will pick up anytime soon. A better side than Crawley would have probably taken the initiative a bit more in a game like that. Maybe they were a little nervous to have a proper go at us?

We now have 3 games coming up that are very tricky. Wednesday at home who are one of the best sides in this league IMO and in good form as well. Then there's this replay which won't be easy and then Oldham away which is never a good game for us and a team going well too. Not looking forward to this month if i'm being honest.

Was'nt bad and i enjoyed my piss up style viewing at Victor Mildews pad.

We were shocked at the total lack of of midfield....it was just not there. I cannot even have my usual pop at Prutton as they were all woeful.   JPM's terrible cross in the second half summed it up.

Ritchies shot off the post and keepers head is really why it isnt happening for us....last season that would of gone in.  The Lino needs fucking for not giving a corner, made himself look a right cunt on telly for that.

Both goals were good, scored by players that were mostly missing during the game.

I would of left on Vince and taken off Austin. With no midfield as soon as he went off we had zero outlet.

Hopefully turn em over at our place and we're in the hat!!

Was going to take in a game today....but fuck it....too cold.

my views;driving through Crawley is worse than driving through London(took the wrong junction!)I dont have high expectations of football ground fare, but that was truly the worst food/drink I have ever tasted-dried up sausage rolls that were inedible, chips overdone to within an inch of their potato lives and hot chocolate that looked and tasted like an abattoirs effluent (probably). The game weren't that bad considering my expectations were pretty much zero.Ritchie looked dangerous,Pericard's touch and hold up play was really good-the way he took down some of the long balls that were played to him was top class, totally do not understand his substitution after going 1-0 up.christ-some fans were moaning at him for not attempting to go for a shit cross from JPM that was out of play ffs!JPM was poor apart from 1 brilliant cross in the first half.Prutton I thought was anonymous-dont think he touched the ball for the first 20 mins of the second half.Timlin was busy and worked his arse off-no complaints about him.Austin missed a sitter but took his goal brilliantly-great celebration right by us.Smith brought off a blinding save from Tubbs and did nothing wrong.Scott Cuthbert was almost back to his best at CH-he must never play right back again surely? However I have to say Morrison needs to be rested-he is a liability at the moment Im afraid. He looks totally out of form, partly at fault for the goal and horrendously almost cost us another by being caught dithering on the edge of our box.
My first game since Plymouth at home and I was a little bit shocked by the hostility toward Wilson and Pericard-some bloke said"this is the worst side we've ever had"and he was older than me!Tails' duck head was brilliant-what an improvement.

Just got back, pretty gutted I spent 100 odd quid for that last night, it was pretty wank all round, although if it wasn't on TV I'm convinced it would have been off.

Opinions Opinions. I thought Pericard was shit and lazy, but I always think Pericard is shit and lazy and I also bum Dossevi so I'm probably wrong.

Morrison can only head a football. Cuthbert was immense, and showed exactly why it's a really good idea to play your best CB at CB. Thought Caddis done more than enough to get the nod and a run in the team. JPM and Rose were absolute dogshit, and I expect Sheehan to start next week.

Their fans were hilariously chavvy and it looks like the Old Bill have a bit of an ongoing issue from what I've heard.

Overall, it was great to head to London, meet up with some old mates and have a few beers, but if I hadn't had a ticket I would have been happy sitting in the pub because it was a dreadful game thanks to the surface, our complete lack of confidence and strange selection and their direct manner.

Still, would have taken a draw, but any kind of enjoyment or entertainment would have been good.

And Watford away please.

The abuse Pericard got last night was shocking. Some fans abuse him for everything that went wrong. It affects him, as he kept his head down while attacking the Town fans. If he scored, I bet the hypocrites would've charged the front. dicks.

With the conditions i thought the players showed a good application.

I felt sorry for Pericard, because he and Charlie were often isolated and he had to deal with a real
lack of quality service.

With Prutton playing so deep,Pericard often had no runnner or support player from midfield who he
could try and bring into the game.

What's the point of abusing players when they are trying? Give some of them some support and
encouragement please!

I thought it took Pericard about 20 mins to get into the game, but he got and held the ball up well. I just wish he could use his height a bit more and win a few more headers.

And, I forgot to mention, that Steve Evans is a fat cunt.

Title: Re: Crawley Town vs Swindon Town Official Matchday Thread
Post by: joteddyred on Saturday, November 27, 2010, 19:37:40
I'm not a Pericard fan, but I thought he did okay last night.  He was using his strength more than I've seen in other games and seemed to be holding the ball up better as well.

Unfortunately due to the fact that he generally hasn't performed that well for Swindon, he'll always tend to get singled out by the boo boys when we're not doing so well.  On the other side of the coin however, you may have thought that would spur him on to do better to silence them?

JPM was the biggest disappointment, I don't think his name was even mentioned until just before half time?  It's a real shame after being one of our consistent players last season.

Title: Re: Crawley Town vs Swindon Town Official Matchday Thread

Rose was shocking and got caught out a couple of times. Morrison was poor and kept giving the ball away, sometimes in dangerous positions. JPM had a bad game. Prutton and Timlin got bypassed for too often. Ritchie was ok but not at his best. Austin and Pericard suffered from a lack of good service.

I spent the train journey back to London wondering why I'd bothered. I suppose it was worth it for the banter with the Crawley fans.

"You lost at Wembley, you lost at Wembley"
"We lost at Wembley, you lost at Newport..."

We got through a difficult cup tie. The pitch looked to be getting harder and slippier all night and we came away with no injuries.

Austin goal/celebration looked brilliant on Tv, and I wish I could have been there.

We are still in the Cup, looking forward to the draw.

JPM & Pericard were very disappointing IMO. The rest did ok in difficult circumstances in difficult conditions, happy to get them back to the County Ground. Douglas would have won that game for us.

Somebody tell me what the fuck has happened to JP since last season? Worst player on the pitch by a country mile and should be ashamed when watching his performance back against players that should be struggling to deal with him but instead made him look like an overweight unfit pub player, with the first touch and delivery of a rapist!  If I were him I would be embarrassed and if I were Wilson he would be in the reserves for a while!

I thought VP did more than ok!

He held the ball up pretty well and brought the midfield into the game.  I felt when he got taken off and Dossevi came on we struggled to get hold of the ball and that in no small part contributed the equiliser!

I expect us to win at a canter at the CG though!

If Tubbs could score 30 goals in 12 months at League One level, then he would have played more than 8 games of league football by the age of 26. Does Evans get some weird pleasure out of making everybody thinks he's a tard?

Tubbs has always been flitting around that level and there must be a reason why the Football League has had little interest?

I imagine this season will see Tubbs earn a Football League move if Crawley don't go up.

Better than Charlie though? Tubbs would have to prove himself in the Football League (L1 level) before you can make such comments.

No idea. 4 points punishment is fuck all compared to our demotion in 1990.

The question is how the hell did Evans and Malkinson not get banned for life, as they deliberately tried to cover it all up through threats and more backhanders.

Unfortunately it is out of our control - FA Cup rules state that ticket prices cannot be adjusted (either up or down) to ensure that clubs don't cash in on the major ties... not AF's or the club's fault...

Well, erm, no.
The clubs have to agree ticket prices, but so long as they agree on something they can charge what they like above a minimum price - which for the Second Round Proper is £10.

I think AF and co have got this wrong. Call me a pessimist, but I can't see too many people being enthralled at paying the usual price to watch Crawley Town.

Well quite. I might have been prepared to pay 20 quid (unlikely I'll grant you) to watch an unattractive replay against a deeply unattractive non-League side who are blatantly cashing in OR I might have been prepared to move from my usual seat to Colostomy Central. But not both. I'm highly unlikely to pay well over the odds to be messed about and watch a shit replay. And I don't think I'm alone in that. Which could lead to a very flat JPT-like atmosphere, and could well count against us. This could backfire badly.

I probably will as well, on reflection, just purely because I won't want to miss it. Although having missed the Brentford game in the JPT, it was surprisingly easy to do. And the feeling of being pissed about/overcharged to fund Crawley's "project" is proving a massive disincentive.

If we had been drawn at home its what we would have had to pay....as has been explained the club are not allowed to change it.............its unfair on the away team.
Fact is if there was a lge match on that tuesday...thats what you would have paid anyway.
Lets be honest the club are getting enough flak about on field matters(rightly so)but they have been tremendous this season on pricing...lots of deals and the season ticket offer...........unfortuanatly this decision is out of there hands.

Change it from what?

I heard that clubs aren't allowed to change prices, or charge less than their normal match day prices.

But I had a good read through the rules for the FA Cup and couldn't see anything that says that. It does set a minimum price for tickets dependent upon the round but otherwise it appears to be up to the two clubs involved to reach an agreement and if they can't the FA arbitrates.

Exactly. Which is what happened between Southampton and Shrewsbury in the 1st round, if you remember, the FA had to arbitrate as they couldn't agree a price and came down on Southampton's side in favour of the lower price. Don't know where people have got this idea clubs have to charge normal matchday prices from, it might be the default, but I think it's always been the case that clubs negotiate the price between themselves. Seem to remember that's what happened with our game against Forest Green a few years back, that we set a lower price with FGR's agreement, although I may be misremembering that.

Fact is Crawley charged full whack...so we are....can't complain on this in my opinion.
I know it is hard....i have to pick and choose my matches now(cup and away)....but the club have made a real effort on prices in general.

Yet if the potential fixture in the 3rd round was one of the big 4 premiership teams, nobody would be complaining.

I expected the ticket prices to be more or less the same as normal. Plus you can hardly blame the club - they drop the prices for the JPT games and the crowd is still crap (silly kick off time or not).

In fact the club have dropped prices for league games also.

Eh? What's that got to do with it? I'm one of those who's pleased with the Derby draw and assuming we get that far will be looking forward to it. But I don't see why that makes paying full whack to watch a midweek second round replay against Crawley at a time when I'm strapped for cash because of Christmas/car servicing/etc any more attractive

Of course Crawley charged full price, their fans were watching a (supposed) HIGHER standard of football than normal. But why does that mean people should pay the same price for Swindon vs Crawley as they do for Swindon vs Huddersfield/Charlton/Brighton?

The fact that so many people say the price has put them off shows exactly why the board have got it wrong. Yes they may make slightly more money this way, but if that's coupled with only 3500 turning up to watch it then it's not right.

The fact only 2 stands are opening show how unattractive it is.

Ill still go if I can mind, in the Town End. I am slightly disappointed at the pricing given its been a lot cheaper for this kind of tie in the past.

Problem is that lower cup prices have hardly led to bumper crowds in the past.

£12 for me in the Town End is alright, it'll be nice to move from my seat for once. Now where's hat half full glass...

When you pay £8.60p per match like i do...Town End season ticket then i for one am not going to grumble.....but understand peoples reactions.

As others and I have said, our cup attendances are pretty crap compared to our league attendances - even with reduced prices. Add the hype surrounding a potentially big tie the next round though and people would forget about paying a fiver more.

I guess the club have made a commercial decision, Crawley fans will be all over this fixture even at these prices. I am sure the same usual core number of town fans would attend even with a reduced price. Ok, maybe we'd get a few hundred more but at reduced prices, but less money when you think about the additional numbers achieved.

Perhaps I would understand more if the club were charging extra but they're not. It's disappointing yes, but it's not really a complete cunt of a decision.

My parents will pay for me, I'm not fussed either way. I see them as an indispensable source of money.

Don't disagree with any of that tbh. I think "disappointing" sums it up - I was just a bit taken aback. I guess I'd expected it to be more around the 15 quid mark and not to have to move. In which case, I probably wouldn't have thought twice about it, I'd have just gone, out of reflex as much as anything. As it is, I've been made to think about whether I want to break my neck getting back from work, rearrange a conference call and pay 20 quid for a game that now that I have to stopped to think about it doesn't really stir my blood too much.

And yes on reflection I agree that reduced prices wouldn't make that much difference to the gate and it does seem a bit off to complain about this one when overall the pricing this season has been fantastic. Meh. I'll probably have to go now, you've made me feel guilty. If it's a shit game, I'll hold you responsible.

It's ok Paul, I cancelled half an afternoon of work and rushed back from Enfield to watch the Brentford JPT game and didn't feel any less pissed off for doing so afterward (despite the cheap price).

I guess the quality of football or lack of will really determine the value for money element.

Not that we will be going anyway, as we struggle to get down for midweek games.

But FWIW, I would have been majorly pissed off to move from a seat with a decent view in the DRS, to a seat in the Arkels with a crap view.

That in itself would put me off, and will probably be the same for some others

But if enough fans turned up they'd open the DRS. It's a bit of a double edged sword unfortunately.

I might go to this because I have a chance to go in the TE (my season ticket is in the DRS....and I can get home quicker if we lose  :) )
