Shearer the club player - great - won lots of stuff (nothing in Europe)
Shearer the England player - one of the best we had - unfortunatley won nothing
Shearer the manager - Disaster
Shearer the potential manager - Not wanted
Shearer the pundit - OK in patches.

An mediocre pundit who has managed for a short while (a disaster) and won nothing as an International player ( So he cannot say "When i won the (add cup here)" ) cannot thus have anything meaningful to say about a succesful manager (Not for England but Capello has a few things and in Europe too Alan!!).

I agree with everything in that article. It doesn't say anywhere how he's a better manager, how he can turn england into something resembling a football team. He just says, in a round about way, what many of us think. We. Are. Shit. And so is the coaching system in this country.

I can't see what the huge hatred is for shearer, he's the epitome of what we lack. (A player who gave a fuck and would cut his bollocks off for the team.) Therefore his comments are valid. Certainly more so than anyone on any football forum.

Shearer is a shit pundit. Hes very boring most of the time, when he does say something interesting, its usually because he's getting it wrong.

Good footballers don't make good pundits, the same way as they don't necessarily make good managers.

Shearer slagging off the England management doesn't make anybody else who've been doing the same for months any more right or wrong.

You don't need to be Alan Shearer to identify the problems he did on the radio, and even where he did identify the problems he was pretty vague about it.

I'm sure there are sports journalists out there who've written wonderful pieces about the National team - and where the problems are going all the way down to the grass routes - even compared to where other countries do things differently - and where we could change thigns, unfortunately they aren't Alan Shearer, so they don't get as much press time.

Whilst Shearer's past is interesting, he hasn't done anything since to prove his opinions on the game are particularly important or relevant. This radio outburst hasn't changed that, it's all been said before, and in more detail.

I did play at Junior Football level and did win a few things and managed (and won things).  But of course that doesnt make me an expert Dave.

I supposed i am annoyed that Shearer gets so much press and as a Pundit and an Opinion i cant bear the fucker (loved him when he played - esp for Blackburn and thumbing his nose at Ferguson).
