Timlin's been called back from Southend, good move I think, gives us more options and might mean that we can stick him in the middle and JP back out wide at Plymouth.

I was shocked to discover Ashley Young is older then the 20 or so I thought he was, shocked Downing is older than 23, that Adam Johnson isn't 18 and that Joe Cole isn't less than 25. Thought Beckford was only about 22/23 as well. I need shooting.

I've never understood the slating that Timlin gets. One thing is for sure, he'll give 100 %. Unlike some of them last night.

Timlins career was ruined by being played at left back and he was run ragged.

Why is it that the modern day manager wants to play players in every position except the best one for the player.

Timlin did a decent job at left back when we put him there.

So why isn't he still there then?.....we got a lot of decent players....all decently being played out of position.

We put him at left back because we were short at the time, he isnt a left back but he did a steady (and yellow card filled) stint there. He certainly didnt get run ragged.

He was awful, no fault of his own as he was out of positon. The two games I can remember him playing at left back (Stockport and Brighton(?) at home), he was torn apart and not played there again.

Saying that i wish him all the best and if he takes this opportunity with both hands good on him.

First couple of game at left back he was solid. As time went on he got steadily worse. Suppose it depends when you saw him as to what your opinion is of him as a left back.

Dave i like you...you defend the team with a passion...but Timlin at left back was awfull.
He is a centre midfield player who can pass well......so play him in centre midfield and let him pass the ball...........ITS EASY!
Why oh why are so many players played out of position.

Timlin's not too bad, and its good just to have options. I have a feeling he will start on Saturday as I doubt he'd like being recalled just to sit on the bench.

I never said play him out of position at all.

He did a decent job at left back, as Batch said he got gradually worse but actually won man of the match for his first two performances at left back.

He isnt a left back - but he wasnt awful there, he did a job and got booked alot. He wasnt Ashley Cole or anything but he wasnt exactly Jason fucking Drysdale either.

He probably had McNamee infront of him to help him out as well, and McNamee to defending is what Fred Elliot is to being sober at football!

He hasn't proved himself at this level either at full back or midfield. There are too many games in midfield where he's non existent. As for full back he is better than Rose but makes Kennedy lookl ike Roberto Carlos. 

he learned a lesson from pook and just goes missing for massive parts of the game.
the plus point will be AOB's positional sense won't look so out of place now

i think timlin played his best football for us at left back.
don't think he's the answer to our troubles though...

I don't think anyone's saying he's the answer... he's a central midfielder who can cover until dougie/ferry are back, and allow JPM to go back to the wing.

Well it's him or JPM until we get players back. Fans can say what they like, but it's a no-brainer for wilson. He has no other option.

Glad to see him back. Sounds like he's had some form whilst away so that could help the others pick their games up.

Timlin is a decent enough player at League One standard and would be match fit given his spell at Southend where by all accounts he has been playing well and even chipped in with the odd goal.

Give the guy a chance, he may not set the world alight but I would rather have Timlin in the middle of the park and move McGovern out to the right where he was so effective last season.  After all, he couldnt do much worse than those (apart from Prutton) displayed on Tuesday night.

We will win saturday. this will kickstart the season!!

While Austin and Pericard did not work against Charlton. I'll admit I'm basing my appeal on nothing more than Ball's two fantastic finishes at Peterborough, but with those two goals I saw exactly why the lad is at Manchester City, and why he is there as a striker.

Add the fact he is perhaps the only player at the club who operates at the same level as Charlie these days in terms of sharpness and intelligence, and it's worth another try I reckon. Of course, it will fail miserably if we just lump long balls at them for 90 minutes, but it's up to the rest of the team to be smarter than that.

The one thing we have missed is having a strong central midfield pairing for any sustained period of games.  Missing Douglas was massive, add in Ferry and that's a gaping whole in the team.  I think we also miss Greer's organisation (I didn't think we'd miss him too much based on his personal performances last season, but it's become quite clear the rest of the defence hung off him, so I was wrong.  We don't miss his ability, we miss what he did to other players.).  I'm not as concerned about the Paynter gap, I think Austin is better than last season and the rest of the possibles are decent enough.  It's the lack of solidity that is the problem, and Timlin, while being no start, is able enough to provide some defensive cover in midfield.  I'd imagine the aim is him and Prutton together.

Next step is to sort out a centre half, and consign Thompson to a few more months of development - he needs it otherwise he'l be ruined as a footballer by the experience of playing in a young defensive set-up and not being ready himself.
