Title: Re: halloween ! Post by: Ralphy on Sunday, October 31, 2010, 19:40:34 Abit of fun for the kids innit.
Title: Re: halloween ! Post by: Bogus Dave on Sunday, October 31, 2010, 19:41:42 I went to a halloween house party last night with someone who had a horses head. it was very surreal
Title: Re: halloween ! Post by: BANGKOK RED on Sunday, October 31, 2010, 19:41:48 It's a non-event to me.
Anybody seen Fred and normy today? Title: Re: halloween ! Post by: Rich Pullen on Sunday, October 31, 2010, 19:42:03 I've never been into it. It must be the biggest day of the year for the likes of Haribo though! We were prepared, only had one knock on the door and they were far too old for trick or treatin'.
However, I'm disappointed with the lack of horror films on TV tonight. Title: Re: halloween ! Post by: Arriba on Sunday, October 31, 2010, 19:42:14 not fussed either way so meh.i usually have sweets in as the little kids in the street knock on doors and it's kinda nice seeing them dressed up and all that.
aint got bugger all in this year so aint answered the door.feel a bit guilty but i'm sure i'll cope.... Title: Re: halloween ! Post by: leefer on Sunday, October 31, 2010, 19:42:55 Dont like it.............but the kids do and we were all kids once don't forget.
Iv'e spent the afternoon dipping raw brussells in chocolate...and watching with mirth as the youngsters bite into the chocolate truffles i have dished out. Title: Re: halloween ! Post by: joteddyred on Sunday, October 31, 2010, 19:44:14 It's an American thing really, but each year seems to get more popular over here. We've had 14 knocks at the door tonight, a bit bloody much really. Haven't had one for around half an hour, so hopefully they're all in bed now!
Title: Re: halloween ! Post by: stfc1969 on Sunday, October 31, 2010, 19:45:13 we've had quite alot but none for the past 30 mins either
Title: Re: halloween ! Post by: Chubbs on Sunday, October 31, 2010, 19:46:23 only had one knock and ignored it.
Title: Re: halloween ! Post by: Benzel on Sunday, October 31, 2010, 19:47:47 I think it's our duty to scare the absolute shit out of trick or treaters. Make it a truly horrifying night so that when these kids get older they can teach their kids the horror of Halloween.
At work tonight though :( Title: Re: halloween ! Post by: Miles Mayhem on Sunday, October 31, 2010, 19:50:12 Dont like it.............but the kids do and we were all kids once don't forget. Post by: sonicyouth on Sunday, October 31, 2010, 19:53:41 I put a sign on my front door saying that I am armed and have subsequently spent the evening shining a laser pointer at passers-by
Title: Re: halloween ! Post by: A Gent Orange on Sunday, October 31, 2010, 19:54:59 Most of the trick-or-treaters round here seem to have come as teenagers - to be fair that is the scariest thing I can think of.
Title: Re: halloween ! Post by: Rich Pullen on Sunday, October 31, 2010, 20:01:44 I spent Halloween 2005 in Boston and it was incredible seeing how into it they are. The below image is the only picture I have left from a walk around the historic (and posh) Beacon Hill on Halloween.
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-sf2p/v104/49/99/512030051/n512030051_869498_3082.jpg The next day I went to Salem. Which is THE biggest tourist trap I've experienced (apart from a beautiful colonial cemetary). Most of the tourists could be found around a statue of Samantha from the TV show Bewitched while the only museum I risked taught me about goblins and ghoulies but not of the Salem witch trials (as it advertised). I went to the tourist information who informed me that the actual of of Salem village was now called Danvers, a small town where a memorial of the Salem Witch Trials is situated and where the foundations of the 'birthplace' of the witch trials are located. However, the old guy at the information centre didn't have a clue where it was, he also informed me that he'd never been asked this simple enquiry before during his decades working there. So I decided to trek to Danvers, walked around the majorly quiet town and eventually discovered a narrow track where the remains of the house where the girls were "taught witchcraft" was located (below). It looked like it hadn't been visited for a long, long time. It was quite rewarding really. Post by: jonny72 on Sunday, October 31, 2010, 20:03:12 I always go in to silent running mode, lights out and tv volume down, so it looks like I'm out. Unfortunately I forgot and some kids rang the doorbell when I was stood in the hallway so I couldn't ignore them, which was a pain as I didn't have anything for them. They were really polite though, said it was ok and went happily on their way.
Title: Re: halloween ! Post by: @MacPhlea on Sunday, October 31, 2010, 20:22:38 I find setting the dogs on them tends to work - plus in their blind panic they tend to leave behind any sweets they have gathered prior to calling at my house...
Title: Re: halloween ! Post by: Ginginho on Sunday, October 31, 2010, 20:36:57 We've only had a couple of trick or treaters tonight, young kids with their parents at the end of the path, don't mind that all, had a bowl of sweets by the door.
As we've only had a couple, that means I get to munch on leftover haribos and maoam sweets. I was going to make some toffee apples, but I couldn't find any sticks anywhere. Title: Re: halloween ! Evil bastard....but I like where you're coming from. :D I assume you'd call that 'Trick and Treat' !! Title: Re: halloween ! Post by: Christy on Sunday, October 31, 2010, 21:02:06 Same routine for the last ten years or so.
Wychwood brewery open evening with all sorts of halloween fun for the kids, if they could be arsed. More importantly, free beer, which I can be arsed with. So, out of the house for a few hours at peak visitor time? Yep. Free Hobgoblin on tap? Yep. Win - win. Title: Re: halloween ! One little tyke had the cheek to ask for cranberry sauce  Title: Re: halloween ! Post by: Batch on Sunday, October 31, 2010, 21:36:46 Love it. Pumpkin went outside and we had three groups of little kids with their parents come round. All said thank-you and went away happy with their harribo. Had one slightly older group come round but hey had at least made an effort and took the sweets just the same.
Nowt wrong with that. We seem to be relatively chav free round here which helps. Title: Re: halloween ! Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Sunday, October 31, 2010, 21:43:37 No-one even bothers knocking on our door anymore.....haha!
Title: Re: halloween ! Post by: nochee on Sunday, October 31, 2010, 22:26:36 I have never been that fussed about it but I went to a Halloween/engagement party last night and had a great time. The hosts put so much effort into decorating the house. Uv lights, smoke machines, full size skeletons sitting around the dining table, hanging heads, ghoul wallpaper and even a real pigs head in the centre of the buffet. It cost them over £700 and 2 weeks work apparently. All of that combined with a bunch if nutters dressed in scary outfits full of booze and god knows what else made for a Cracking night that will be talked about for a long time.

That's it, if people are willing to make the effort, then Halloween can be great fun!Saying that, i was never too bothered about it as a kid (Trick or treatin'), but as i've gotten older, i've quite enjoyed it! The whole dressin' up to go clubbin' with a bunch of mates, is a good laugh. Gothed it up a treat last night (Any excuse to wear eyeliner and nail varnish..........) Title: Re: halloween ! I don't answer the door but make sure the little cunts don't do anything to the house or car or they'll find out whether its trick or fucking treat. Just because the thick as shit Americans think its a good idea doesn't make criminal damage acceptable. Its a stinking pile of festering shite.

Dont agree with it but got the Mrs Flash kids to think of so went along with it. Title: Re: halloween ! Post by: erictheexile on Monday, November 1, 2010, 12:51:26 We've got about half a ton of Haribos if anyone wants them. We only had one visit and that was on Friday night. The doorbell rang and there was the chavviest couple I have ever seen with their toddler daughter in a pushchair. No fancy dress, and I doubt that the kid was old enough to speak. They looked completely pissed off when I presented them with haribos rather than cash for their fags/booze/methadone. My instinct was to tell them to f*ck off but no doubt they'd have been scratches all over the car later this week.
I loved the brussels sprout truffles comment... Title: Re: halloween ! Post by: Sippo on Monday, November 1, 2010, 13:19:09 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUAV_1jBJB4&feature=player_embedded

Post by: Simon Pieman on Monday, November 1, 2010, 20:24:28 As the years have rolled by we've had fewer calling round. I think we must have had one person knock on the door in the last three years combined.
I don't mind it really. I remember when I was a kid and it was fun and exciting to get dressed up and go out to pike some sweets from the neighbours. The kinder people were the ones who made the night better, so I wouldn't like to be a scrooge. Title: Re: halloween ! Post by: thedarkprince on Monday, November 1, 2010, 20:29:20 Anyone know when the spelling dropped the apostrophe? Seems to have crept in a lot recently but I was always taught that it was Hallowe'en... probably one for Reg. It hasn't...however I suppose that language is always evolving and it's a relatively little used word and people are often lazy, so increasingly the apostrophe disappears. A similar case is the wod won't....a short form of will not. There is already the word wont, as in doing something, as is your wont, some increasingly wont appears without apostrophe. Title: Re: halloween ! Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, November 2, 2010, 08:57:00 Hallowe'en is just a shortened version of All Hallows Even.
