Title: Should the premier ship have a mid season break
Post by: bassett boy on Tuesday, October 12, 2010, 19:24:26
Once again this has become an issue should they have a break it would help clubs like us gain extra support and a higher profile

I think that ManU and Arsenal and Chelsea should only have to compete every other season to allow expansion of the champions league.

I though Harry Redknapp was spot on when he said that if the prem did have a winter break all the clubs would take players off and play in events in Dubai or China etc such is the want for global marketing so it would make the 'break' worthless really.

This is such a load of old bollocks.

There would still be the same amount of games to play, and the same number of weeks in the year to play them in.

A break in the winter would mean a more densely packed season, or a shorter break in the summer, which is pretty short anyway.

Unless by some fucking miracle the break happens to coincide with any period of severe winter weather it's likely to just make fixture congestion worse.

Totally fucking pointless.

Agreed. If we did go ahead with this and still royally fucked up what would their excuse be then. Get on with the fucking game, show some bottle, stop shagging prossies of all ages and stop looking for diversions from the fact you haven't got it at the highest level.

The overpaid fucking pansies only play 38 league games a year. If they don't like the number of games then make the Champions league a straight knockout again with only the league champions in it. Oh wait, that loses a shit load of money. Which is all its really about anyway because as posted by someone else I too am sure they'd be off on a winter break tour .

There is a case for a winter break from a physiological point of view the Premier League is more physically intense than the other European Leagues and when we get to the World Cup etc our players are burnt out or carrying injuries and we get flat performnaces. A break would allow them to re-group and go again for the rest of the sharp end of the season

I think if they do have a winter break it should be in January after the FA Cup 3rd Round and leave the next two weekends free and then pick up again at the end of January for the 4th round. Those Premier League clubs that don't give a damn about it can field their weakened teams and effectively drop out. It would allow some focus on the FA Cup for those teams that want to progress in it. By doing in January, it would allow the Christmas fixtures to be kept as well

Can't understand how they can moan about "burn out"... they only play two games a week max, they've got great levels of fitness, top physios, nutrionists, masseurs, etc.

I could fucking play two games a week and not get nackered

Personally, I'd like to see a 52 week break

If they actually rested in the summer instead of going on lengthy money making tours of Asia and the US, they'd probably feel some health benefits...

I don't care. I simply don't care for the Premiership anymore, or the players within it. There was a time when I was all "wow, look at our amazing league. Aren't we great."

Since the World Cup though I'd just like to see it collapse and become a a league where real teams can take part, the top 4 would always be different and people like Gartside would disappear.

Might be an idea if they went and played in Scotland, the Premier League is becoming a bigger version of that.

Sounds sensible until you remember that it's not just "our" players who play in the Premiership, plenty of foreign players do too and they seemed to manage to raise their poor exhausted souls to actually put in a shift for their national shirt.

The problem is the sheer mental exhaustion created by the current "free for all" system of requiring top players to spend many hours in night clubs etc to find their own slappers, under-age prostitutes (or old-age in Rooney's case) for casual orgies, roasting etc. The FA should relieve players of this stressful burden by setting up their own trafficking department to cater to the depraved tastes of our elite players so they can have slappers on tap, instead of having to go out and find them for themselves. More pampering and indulgence of their stupid spoilt egos is what our top players need!

No they shouldn't. A cold spell in the UK can take place anytime from November to March, so when can you take it, and anyway, they'll just fly off to Asia to make some big money by playing a high profile friendly.

Over the last 15 years, they've reduced the size of the Prem (22 down to 20), reduced the number of replays in the League and FA Cup, no longer take the LC seriously until they get to the semis. The only competitions they've increased the number of games was in the Chumpions League and Europa Cup. Fulham played 19 games to get to the final last year, half a league season.

So, if they want to reduce games, as Batch says, go back to knockout competitions in Europe.

It would only benefit Brad Friedal anyway.

Maybe they could play the 39th game they fancy during this break, somewhere warmer.

If thgey are going to take a break it should be for the 6 weeks before a major tournament say after easter, then come back to finish the season for 2/3 games to get match fit for the world cup etc
