I think from the outside it seems like most of the regular posters know each other fairly well and there is a degree of familiarity which i guess can be a bit intimidating for people to throw themselves into the middle of.

Having said that i will make an attempt to get involved more in future!

I guess a lot could be opposition fans as i lurk on other clubs boards at times.

Due to the high level of intelligence on this site it could by Aliens lurking hoping to understand our culture and customs?

Some of us live a very long way away, don't know the regulars, rarely get to see the football and are shy and sensitive flowers, and deeply respectful of our elders and betters on this forum.  Doesn't stop me from posting an opinion from time to time tho.

although alot of people do know each other on here i aint one of them.i know 2 personally and others via other people.
i think it can be quite hard for new posters to establish themselves,but those that persevere(and aint cretins)do ok.
there always seems to be more lurkers than actual members on the site at any time.

I think I could well be classed as a "lurker", I put it down to the impression I get that everyone else knows each other!

It's like anything in life though: get a new local and the regulars will all know each other; start a new job and all your new colleagues will have worked with each other for some time; join a well established forum and people will know each other (either in a cyber capacity or in 'real life').

It probably is the idea that everyone knows each other.  I havent met that many (Mex, Barry Scott, Adge, Pullen, Sonic, Sutton red, think thats it.  Oh yes I forgot, I gave Fred Elliot some money in a toilet once) but loads more have been pointed out to me in the legends lounge.  All shouting cunt a lot.  I liked the look of them.  It was like a tourettes day trip to the pub.

I tend to post only when I have something to say rather than constantly.  Then give up posting for a while, then start again.  Might start being a lurker again in November.  Im sure my contributions wont be missed.

To be fair, it's nothing like as cliquey as it used to be on here.  Properly did my head in at times, but there have been a lot of new posters join up over the last 12 months and this has (in my view) saved the TEF.  It's a much more interesting read these days.

I know that I will never know anyone here in person due to the fact I live 60 miles and only time I ever visit Swindon is driving in to the town, watch a game, drive out again.  I actually like the fact that on here I can see the views of “everyman” Town fans as in my real life almost all my mates/family are standard so-called-fan big team followers.

I still count myself as a lurker, been registered for best part of 4 years but most posts are on match day as I don't live locally so don't make it to too many games. 

I think the familiarity of some can seem a bit daunting/intimidating.

Wouldn't count on that. I'm a hundred miles away, and have probably met at least a dozen regulars on several occasions, and do most games. Once you fall into conversation with someone on here in a pub at a game(away normally), it tends to snowball, and then they stalk you for life ;)

Same here.  Although I know a wide range of people who support Swindon and I don't doubt some of them post on here or possibly just 'lurk'.  It's not something that has ever come up in conversations and I don't know what their usernames are. I've got a feeling my brother posts on here and I know my dad is a lurker, but saying that he might actually have posted.  If people's real names appeared, I expect we'd all find we know quite a lot of people on here.

I've only been posting for around 6 months and I think being female made me wait quite a while before posting, because there didn't seem to be many females posting.  I haven't found it intimidating on here and have got involved in some good banter and conversations.  There are a few people on here who only seem to want to converse with specific people they obviously know, but that's just one of those things  :)

What about people who post but do not lurk there are a few on here

Lloyd used to lurk, on both the old Thisis site and then carried on lurking when we moved off to this site.....Yeovil managed to get a few comments out of Lloyd early one morning....then nothing for another year, until a one post collector's item.

According to the stats Lloyd was still lurking back in the summer, a full 4 years since the last post.

In my case I'm 12,000 miles away and have only managed to make it to two games in the last 20 years (home to Torquay in Apr 07 and Huddersfield at home this season).

Add to that, when I am online most of you lot are tucked up in bed except for one or two sad gits who probably need to get a life.

Both of the above factors kind of limit my ability to contribute to any meaningful discussion, hence the reason for just 'lurking'.

Mexico Red, I am in Australia (I could have said I live in Sydney but I know it would have taken one of you bright sparks less than a minute to pick up on the homosexual connotation).

Sydney is a good place to live except for 4 things:

1. The intense summer heat (call me wierd but I'd rather it be snowing rather than 40+ degrees celsius).
2. Only getting to watch football at midnight or 2am in the morning. The 'A League', as the national competition here is known, doesn't really count unless you like watching lower L2 or Conference fare (perfect for Oxford fans I guess)
3. Rarely getting to watch Swindon play and
4. The fact that Australia is so far away from anywhere (unless NZ or Fiji is your gig its 7-8 hours flying time up to SE Asia)

Classic lurker here who likes to enjoy the banter from afar. Moved away from Swindon and only return for the occasional Town match, so browsing is a good way to keep my finger on the, ahem, pulse.
