That romain twat and mr-m are just ignorant. I wouldn't let them wind me up - they are the ones being selfish - ie Roberts is fighting for his sanity but he's a cunt because he played a few bad games for the Town. I never liked Roberts as a player but as one human being to another I have great sympathy and respect for him. He's faced his problems and he's still here.
Anyone with any experience - first hand or otherwise - will know he wasn't being selfish or ungrateful for things - he was ill, pure and simple. Now he's better but will have to be on his guard for the rest of his life.

I had a gambling problem myself.....in fact i was addicted to it.
I went to gamblers Anon for six years........nearly killed me did gambling.
Having a bet was more important than eating to me for nearly twenty years.
The last eight years i have had four bets(four to many)in my case...but considering up to then i had bet every day for twenty years i finally have got myself back to some sort of normality.
The difference with addiction to gambling is that it mentaly kills you...........no one can see the physicle side unlike drink and drugs so you can hide it for years...i did untill i hit rock bottom.

My best wishes to Christian Roberts..........i admire anyone who can beat addiction,problem is you never are quite sure that you have.....but at this time in my life i am actually starting to believe i am over the worse........like Christian Roberts once the world knows about your problem then there is no hiding place if you return to your particular vice.........knowing this is just one barrier i have in place to prevent me sliding back to old ways.
As i said anyone who beats addiction or tackles it head on are right up there in my book.

i think he's exaggerated the story.
firstly there is nowhere to pull over on the severn bridge,and secondly even if he did pull over as he described,he did would have been caught on camera and would have been aprehended when he got back in his car at the very least.

I still admire Robbo. I think some people forget what a decent player he was when fully fit. He had attitude that other teams and fans hated.

I'll never forget when he was playing for City at the CG in the game with Fallon's overhead kick. He was stood infront of one of our players, forget who, just about to take a throw in. Stood there and winked at the Town player trying to wind him up. I remember thinking "you cocky bastard" !

I despised Robbo, even for most of the time he was with us. But he kept all this under wraps, won me over and on his day was fantastic.

I remember when he did the ayatollah at Swansea. Up to that point he was playing one of his best games I would say, scored the goal and did that.

Sadly it woke the home fans and team up and they nicked the win a few minutes later.

The sheep shagging cunt should have killed himself. A waste of space in front of goal and in life.

We went three up top at 2-0 down, moved Roberts to the wide left of the 3 and suddenly for 20 minutes he turned into Thierry fucking Henry.

His performance against us for Exeter before he signed for you is one of the best individual outings seen at the Kass Stad. The only time I have seen an opposition player applauded at the final whistle. Clearly a very talented footballer. So, he was going through the height of this when he was at Swindon?

I can't believe they didn't, he must have permanently stank of booze?  I don't imagine the club will come out of the whole story looking particularly good.  Another example of how poorly we were being run both at board level and management level during that period.

I'd like to think the fitness tests that are undertaken now when a player is due to sign are a damn sight more rigorous than what Roberts claims to have had?

It's all well and good saying the club shouldve noticed it, or did and kept quiet, but addicts are very good at keeping what they do private - that's why addictions are so hard to overcome.

In his own words Roberts states he was pisshead well before he signed for Town. He also wasn't very discrete with it - ie what he says about Wales. The Slave Traders done us over big time with Roberts but we were so lax / stupid that we fell for it. I think Roberts comments on signing for us and his drinking bouts with King and other players show what a fucking shambles we were on and off the pitch. If people want to start slagging Roberts off then there are quite a few other players who fucked the Town over as well with their drinking and general fitness levels.

Quite amusingly his comment shows such either stunning stupidity and ignorance or someone with a mental health issue themself.

I expect the whole dressing room stank of booze in the years he was here.

Heywood, Nicho, Pook and SeanO spent more time in the pubs than on the pitch.

As already said, all this shows what a twat Andy King was / is. Sounds like he was on the piss himself most of the time so missed the signs that one of his players had a major problem with booze.

 English lower league football, has always had a drinking culture...its how it should be, well I recall watching a completely inept Kingy inspired 0-3 defeat v Colchester possibly New Years Day, with a terrible hangover. Straight away, I realised most of the players were feeling just as bad as me.

 I'm sure we've all got plenty of tales of how this manifests itself...doubtless it applies to opposition as well.

I'm sure a lot of us have stories about bumping into players on the piss during the King's reign, they were generally in groups together which was a good thing.

What a fucking tactical genius. Managed to get a bunch of piss heads to 5th and the playoffs under difficult board room situations. It's taken Danny Wilson a competent board and a united fan base to achieve the same thing. Who's the better manager?

I was in town yesterday and felt a bit sorry for him as there was noone really in Waterstones apart from an 8 year old boy in a Swindon shirt so I popped in and brought a copy for my dad for Xmas and got it signed cause my dad is a collector of STFC books
his press people were desperate for people to go in and have there pic taken with him I was like errrmm sorry broken nose!!! Didn't wanna look like a geek!

When I went in there, there was one chap in front of me buying 5 books for his kids/dad. I don't think he did too bad yesterday.  But they didn't really avertise the signing.

Think Wilson might be trying harder this season though.....when we seemed to be signing up a group of old mates from Leeds, ie Prutton to go with Douglas and Lucas, a tiny thought entered my head, that they might be mates because they like a drink together.

What amazes me is that Dick Mackay and Kingy didn't notice the weight Robbo had put on. I remember when he first signed for us, he was much leaner and sharper. He slowed up alot a year or so later.
